Chapter 202: Clues to Magical Intelligence
Although he knew it was somewhat impolite, Allen still couldn't help but show a hint of disappointment; he believed Mr. Weasley's words were merely an excuse, simply unwilling to share the secret of creating magical intelligence.
However, this was understandable; after all, this was a very high-end magical application, a treasured secret in any wizarding family. He and Mr. Weasley were not related, so it was only right for Mr. Weasley not to tell him.
He suddenly felt a bit disheartened and wanted to politely end the topic.
At this moment, Mr. Weasley keenly caught the fleeting disappointment in Allen's expression; after all, as the Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office at the Ministry of Magic, he did possess some ability to read people.
"I truly do not know how the magical car gained intelligence..." Mr. Weasley said earnestly, "That day I drank a little brandy, and in a drunken state went to modify my car. When I woke up, the magical car had gained intelligence."
Now Allen felt that Mr. Weasley was truly not lying; he couldn't help but be stunned, for he never expected the truth to be like this.
"Actually, my family does not know that the magical car gained magical intelligence; they are not interested in Muggle artifacts. I always instructed the magical car to hide itself well, but I never expected that after suffering serious damage, it would simply sulk and run away..."
"Today is the first time I have discussed the issue of magical intelligence with a wizard," Mr. Weasley said with a shrug.
By now, Allen had already gathered his composure; he could feel Mr. Weasley's sincerity.
"Then can you still recall what spells you cast at that time?" Allen still couldn't quite give up, trying to gather more information.
Mr. Weasley showed a thoughtful expression; he thought for a while with a pained look, but remembered nothing.
"If you remember anything, you can tell me at any time. It was very pleasant talking with you today." Allen extended his hand, as he had already seen Hermione and Ron walking this way.
Mr. Weasley gently shook Allen's hand and said, "Why are you so interested in magical intelligence? You are the same age as Ron; right now, his mind is full of nothing but Quidditch."
Allen had long been prepared for this question.
"I am Professor Flitwick's research assistant, and we have been researching this topic recently." To enhance his persuasiveness, he produced Professor Flitwick's signature.
"Wow! Professor Flitwick is my teacher too; I will think hard about that day when I have time." Mr. Weasley's expression became serious.
Indeed, one still had to bring up Professor Flitwick; after all, he was currently just a thirteen-year-old child. Without Professor Flitwick's authority, adults would not pay much attention to his words. Allen thought this silently in his heart.
"Thank you. If we make a breakthrough in this area thanks to your help, your name will be added to the final results." Allen continued to use Professor Flitwick's authority.
He suddenly realized that Professor Flitwick's reputation was very useful; Professor Flitwick had been teaching at Hogwarts for several decades, a time span sufficient to cover all wizards under fifty in the British Wizarding World. Most importantly, Professor Flitwick had good relationships with students from all houses, so Professor Flitwick actually held quite a lot of prestige.
Although Professor McGonagall had also been teaching at Hogwarts for several decades, Allen absolutely dared not use her reputation.
If one day Mr. Weasley casually mentioned this matter to Professor McGonagall, given her no-nonsense style that brooks no sand in her eyes, she would absolutely drag him over for a confrontation.
Professor Flitwick was different; in such a situation, he would definitely help Allen cover up, and then call Allen aside privately to discuss the matter.
Given Allen's relationship with Professor Flitwick, and Professor Flitwick's easygoing and kind personality, he was sure he could persuade Professor Flitwick to support his research.
"Oh, that would be a very exciting and honorable thing." Mr. Weasley smiled and said happily.
At this moment, Hermione and Ron also walked over.
"What are you talking about? We are preparing to go to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour to buy some ice cream; do you want to come with us?" Ron said.
"Talking about some school anecdotes and the topic of Muggle buses." Allen said quickly.
Then he looked at Mr. Weasley again. "Please allow me to end our conversation; it was very nice chatting with you, but I must go out with my friends now." Allen said very politely.
"Go ahead, children!" Mr. Weasley showed a kindly smile.
Just as Allen was about to turn and leave, Mr. Weasley suddenly called out to him.
Allen looked at Mr. Weasley with a puzzled expression.
"I suddenly remembered something; that day I should have cast some memory charms and a Patronus Charm, but I cannot recall the specific details. I hope these will be of some help to you." Mr. Weasley said quickly.
At this moment, Mrs. Weasley in the distance was waving at Mr. Weasley. Mr. Weasley gave Allen an apologetic look and went to find Mrs. Weasley.
Allen watched Mr. Weasley's back and fell into deep thought.
"What memory charms? Why were you discussing that?" Hermione's voice suddenly rang in his ear.
Allen was suddenly startled awake. Looking into Hermione's brown eyes, he suddenly said, "Are you interested in memory charms?"
He thought of the final plan from last school year; to learn his customized Transfiguration spells, one must master a certain degree of memory magic.
"Memory charms? I heard that kind of magic is very dangerous! Even older students are not taught memory charms..." Hermione's attention was diverted.
"Do you want to learn?" Allen bluntly interrupted Hermione.
"I do want to learn!" Hermione said just as bluntly.
"Then I can teach you!" Allen playfully winked at her.
"You..." Hermione's large eyes held huge questions.
But at this moment, Ron began to urge them on. "Stop chatting; let's hurry to buy ice cream. Jin Ni is already waiting impatiently. We need to buy one for everyone."
Allen quickened his pace by two steps to catch up with Ron, leaving Hermione behind.
Watching his and Ron's figures, Hermione stamped her foot in frustration and followed after them...
Allen was surprised to find that his summer vacation was almost over. He had spent this summer quite comfortably, always researching memory magic.
However, there was an inconvenience in Diagon Alley: his room was too small. Allen could not possibly bring out the Basilisk to modify its memory, and places capable of accommodating a Basilisk were very hard to find, so the matter of modifying the Basilisk's memory was thus put on hold.
So he also very much wanted to return to Hogwarts to continue this, although he was also very reluctant to part with the kind Mr. Ollivander.
Nevertheless, Mr. Ollivander still invited him to work in the shop next summer vacation. Allen thought for a moment and agreed for now.
