Chapter 794: The Monarch... Has Disappeared Again
"I... Ba Da..." The new voice cursed in a state of agitation, then quickly fell silent.
"Hey, hey, hey, don't leave yet, let's chat for a bit. Void Will, the Undead Sovereign would like to invite you..." Anthony stopped abruptly at this point.
However, after waiting for a long while, the new voice never appeared again. Instead, the voice of the octopus egg sounded, dazed: "What did you do to me?"
Anthony's expression sank, and he muttered, "Now we're in trouble."
"What trouble? What did the Old Immortal want to invite him to do? Why don't I know about this?" Negris asked, puzzled.
Could it be that the Old Immortal had whispered something to Anthony? That wasn't right; he had been present the entire time they were talking. Could they have whispered through their souls?
"That's why it's trouble," Anthony said in a low voice. "Hearing me say that, wouldn't you be curious about what His Majesty said? But he wasn't curious; he just retreated directly."
"There are two possibilities: he doesn't know His Majesty, so he wasn't interested in what His Majesty said; or, he has met His Majesty and knows where he is," Anthony said.
"Are you trying to bluff him? Maybe he saw through your bluff, which is why he retreated," Negris said, surprised.
Anthony shook his head. "While that's possible, I managed to bluff him out just by guessing randomly. Given that level of intelligence, I think that possibility can be ignored."
Being able to bluff that voice out had truly exceeded Anthony's expectations. As a thousand-year-old charlatan, setting traps anytime and anywhere was almost his instinct. Whether he caught anything or not, he would take a few swings; it didn't cost him anything anyway. So, he was quite surprised that he had actually managed to get something out of it.
It was perfectly reasonable that the octopus egg could use black stone to pollute others' consciousness, and that other consciousnesses could use black stone to pollute it. Anthony was just making a logical deduction; who could have guessed he would bluff out a new consciousness?
The number of existences capable of polluting the octopus egg through black stone like an Ancient God was definitely small. The most likely candidates were those few Primordial Ancient Gods. That was why Anthony had guessed "Void Will" at random, but the other party's reaction had shocked him—this consciousness hadn't denied it at the first opportunity.
The consciousness's first reaction was to curse, and its second was to retreat, but it had absolutely no intention of denying it. This instinctive reaction should be the most authentic, so it was worth pondering.
Thinking of this, Anthony turned to Ang and said, "My lord, can you contact His Majesty to confirm if he is safe?"
Ang had no soul connection with the Undead Monarch, nor was there any subordinate relationship, so he could only contact him through indirect means.
After trying for a while, Ang said, "The King... has disappeared."
"What? The Old Immortal has disappeared again? Isn't the Darkness Source following him? How could he have disappeared?" Negris asked.
"Darkness... has disappeared," Ang said blankly.
"Pfft! The Darkness Source has disappeared too? When did it disappear? Doesn't he have a soul connection with you? He disappeared and you didn't notice? Did you ignore this kind of information?" Negris said, angry.
Ang scratched his head, looking somewhat distressed, and said, "Soul connection... is there. The person... is not on this layer."
Anything that could make Ang distressed was the kind of brand-new situation he didn't know how to describe. This was one such case, but Negris had miraculously understood.
"You mean, his soul connection with you is still there? He is still alive, just not in this dimension?" Negris translated.
Ang nodded quickly.
The Darkness Source was now a very special existence. Its source body had been detonated, but because of the Holy Shroud, its consciousness had been preserved. Ang had re-forged a soul to contain its consciousness.
Therefore, the current Darkness Source had a soul connection with Ang, but it no longer possessed its former strength.
Within the range of the Chaos Mist, the soul connection was not very stable, either; it was intermittent. Ang, with his personality of only being interested in planting things, naturally wouldn't pay too much attention to the soul connection with the Darkness Source. Anyway, it hadn't been severed; if it had been interrupted, he would have noticed it even faster.
The Darkness Source had said it had a method to kill the Void Will. The Monarch naturally wouldn't want to miss such a thing and had strongly demanded that Ang anchor the location while he went out to hack people.
Well, now the Darkness Source had disappeared. Although they didn't know the situation for the moment, if the consciousness from just now was the Void Will, it meant that the Darkness Source's plan had very likely already failed.
And it itself had very likely been sealed, imprisoned, or banished to another dimension.
The Darkness Source had disappeared, so Ang couldn't contact the Monarch, which was equivalent to the Monarch also having disappeared.
"This..." Everyone looked at each other, all somewhat at a loss. Even Anthony didn't know what to do. There was no contingency plan for a plan of this level; if it succeeded, it succeeded, and if it failed, no one knew what to do.
"Now we must first figure out what happened to His Majesty. Where is the Abyss Maw? Can we contact the Abyss Maw?" Anthony said.
The Abyss Maw had naturally left a contact method. Ang took out a bead; inside it was a pitch-black abyss vortex, as if the Abyss Maw were sealed inside.
Ang probed his will into it, and the abyss vortex inside the bead immediately began to rotate slowly.
However, after a long while, Ang said, "The Abyss... has disappeared."
Everyone's expression became solemn. Even the Abyss Maw had disappeared. The three of them had gone together to kill the Void Will; could it be that the matter had been exposed and they had been wiped out in one go by the Void Will?
"That shouldn't be the case, because my lord's soul connection with the Darkness Abyss has not been interrupted. They have very likely just been trapped within some kind of dimensional restriction," Anthony speculated.
"Then what do we do now? Should we go save him? This Old Immortal is truly unreliable. He even said he was going to hack the entire Chaos Plane, and now he can't even hack a single Void Will," Negris muttered, annoyed.
"How can we save him? Without the Darkness Source leading the way, we don't even know where they are trapped," Anthony said, distressed.
According to Ang, the Darkness Source was "not on this layer," so on "which layer" was it? Without someone to lead the way, they couldn't even find the location, so how could they save anyone?
In the Void, this was simply an impossible mission, almost as difficult as killing a Primordial Ancient God.
"Since we can't save him, then forget it. Anyway, Ang has anchored the location. As long as the Old Immortal isn't dead, one day he will find his way back on his own," Negris said helplessly.
"Then what do we do now? How do we deal with these Ancient Black Stones?" Anthony asked.
"What else can we do? Keep them to pollute our consciousness and then be controlled? Let Tom and the others try to see if they can burn them."
Tom and Luoluo Ka transferred over and attempted to ignite the Ancient Black Stones by using the method of igniting light spots. This attempt was extraordinary; the Ancient Black Stones, which had shown no change even under temperatures of over three thousand degrees, actually lit up under the compression of the force field, emitting a bright light.
However, very quickly, Tom and Luoluo Ka retreated, saying in a panic, "It's not good, they're burning on their own."
Thanks to Xitu Liya Yemian and Woting Luoxue for the tips.
