Chapter 39: Zhen Yuan and Hong Yun
Among the dragon clan, a group of great beings were testing their own main deity halls.
Here in the Underworld, Xiang Xuanqing had just attained insight into a minor divine art.
At this moment, he was standing within a great world—Luo Fu Cave Heaven.
This was one of Xiang Xuanqing’s medicinal fields.
“Calling forth names and deities—this seems capable of acting upon primordial spiritual treasures.”
“Then let’s summon one: Huang Jinlishi!”
Xiang Xuanqing held a black divine mirror and shone it upon the sky above Luo Fu Cave Heaven.
Amidst radiant brilliance, twenty-one divine generals appeared within the medicinal field.
“Yi ya yi ya!”
In the medicinal field, two ginseng dolls were summoning clouds and raining to irrigate rare herbs.
The sudden appearance of these divine generals startled the two little ones.
They zipped into the soil at once, cautiously poking their heads out to observe.
“Yi ya?”
The divine generals each had faces like red jade, beards like black velvet, and stood a hundred zhang tall.
Beside the yellow headbands, golden rings glowed with sunlit radiance; embroidered robes shimmered, iron armor frosted with moonlight.
“Formidable indeed, but their strength is a bit lacking.”
Xiang Xuanqing glanced at the twenty-one Huang Jinlishi he had summoned.
These were summoned via the Sin Mirror; their spiritual awareness was low.
They possessed only the divine strength to carry mountains and chase the moon, to hold up the sky and lift the sun.
“But if we grant them a few more divine arts, they’d be perfect for guarding the alchemical furnace and tending the medicinal field.”
“Coincidentally, I once promised to assign a few attendants to the Hunyuan Ding.”
Xiang Xuanqing tapped the mirror’s surface and summoned fifteen more golden-glowing force spirits, completing the number of the Heavenly Gang.
“Yi ya?!”
The ground trembled violently; the two ginseng dolls were terrified and zipped again, this time darting to Xiang Xuanqing’s side and scrambling onto his shoulders.
“Yi yi ya ya!!”
Their eyes sparkled with curiosity; they bounced up and down on his shoulders, left and right, asking what had happened.
Xiang Xuanqing smiled: “I’m getting you two some helpers!”
“From now on, they’ll help you tend the medicinal field.”
“Ya?” The left ginseng doll tilted its head, then quickly brightened.
It clapped its hands in delight: Yay, we’ve got helpers!
The right little one joined in the cheer.
“Yi yi ya ya!”
Perfect! This time we’ll crush the Vine Dragon once and for all!
“Huh?”
Xiang Xuanqing looked at it and asked with a smile: “Are you two fighting?”
South of Luo Fu Cave Heaven lay a small world where many towering ghost vines grew.
The “Vine Dragon” the ginseng dolls mentioned was the leader of the ghost vines.
“Ya ya ya!!”
The two ginseng dolls nodded vigorously, indignantly reporting to Xiang Xuanqing.
“It’s terrible—it keeps sneaking off to bully the little flowers in Cloud Blossom Valley when we’re not looking.”
“And it stole half the water from the Spirit Spring well; now there isn’t enough for everyone.”
“Little Purple in the Purple Gold Bamboo Grove couldn’t beat it either—it stole many of the bamboo shoots.”
“We wanted to beat it up, but it doesn’t even care—it just comes back later to cause more trouble!”
“Lately it learned to summon clouds and rain, and even tried to replace us…”
The ginseng dolls were administrators of Luo Fu Cave Heaven, overseeing many minor spirits who managed several small worlds.
Together they were responsible for the medicinal field’s upkeep.
But some of the little ones didn’t get along and constantly fought.
The Vine Dragon was a troublemaker in Luo Fu Cave Heaven.
“So that’s how it is.”
Listening to the ginseng dolls’ complaints, Xiang Xuanqing nodded. He glanced southward, where a small dragon nestled among the ghost vines, wearing a foolish expression.
“Hmm? Did it gain some opportunity from the recent demonic anomaly?”
Xiang Xuanqing perceived the Vine Dragon’s transformation; a smile curled on his lips.
“Not bad.”
At this moment, Xiang Xuanqing sensed a change in one of his Dao bodies.
Coincidentally, it was the one among the dragon clan.
“Little one, want to go out and play?”
Xiang Xuanqing reached out and lifted the Vine Dragon into his palm.
The little one shrank its head.
It had a bad feeling.
“Don’t be afraid. Go there, train hard with him.”
“I look forward to the day you return to the Underworld as a Ghost General.”
Yunmeng Marsh.
Inside the Crystal Palace, the Blue-Robed Dragon God held the little creature in his hand and muttered: “Why send me something this small?”
“Do you take my place for a nursery?”
“At least send me a Ghost Deity!”
The Blue-Robed Dragon God sighed; having such a master was truly a curse.
He had to act as a spy for Xiang Xuanqing while also raising these little ones.
“Let me see—I just got assigned a slot for a main deity hall. I can easily slip in some sand.”
“But this Zu Long is truly remarkable—recognized by the master himself as one of the chief stewards of Taiwei Weiyuan Hall, and so good at stirring up trouble.”
The Blue-Robed Dragon God marveled: “He’s even produced the Chaos Pearl and the Main Deity Space.”
“I wonder how many beings this dragon clan’s scheme will drag out of hiding!”
The Qilin clan and the dragon clan were both vying for control of the myriad worlds.
But the Qilin clan acted openly, with thirty-six sovereigns guarding their kin against villains.
The dragon clan operated in secrecy.
And their methods were clearly far more sophisticated.
“Friend, are you home?”
As the Blue-Robed Dragon God pondered how to arrange the young Vine Dragon, two deities appeared outside Yunmeng Marsh.
One wore a bright yellow Dao robe, a purple-gold crown, a carefree crane-feather cloak, silk shoes on his feet, and a silk sash around his waist.
The other wore a red robe, cloud-patterned shoes, his aura transcending the mortal realm, ethereal and carefree.
The visitors were none other than Zhen Yuanzi, master of Wuzhuangguan.
The other was Hong Yun, neighbor of the Yunmeng Dragon God.
“You two friends arrived just in time!”
The Blue-Robed Dragon God emerged from the Dragon Palace, smiling to greet them.
Hong Yun asked with a grin: “Friend, you’ve got good news, haven’t you?”
“Yes yes yes!”
The Blue-Robed Dragon God invited the two into the Dragon Palace.
The three sat down separately.
The young Vine Dragon had already been sent to the rear hall.
“I haven’t asked yet—what brings you two here?” asked the Blue-Robed Dragon God.
Hong Yun and Zhen Yuanzi exchanged glances, then spoke in unison:
“We’ve found something interesting.”
“Oh?”
The Blue-Robed Dragon God blinked, then said with a knowing smile: “I’ve found something interesting too.”
What a coincidence?
Hong Yun and Zhen Yuanzi both laughed.
