Chapter 63: Author's Note on Going Live
Time really flies; in the blink of an eye, the day for the book to go live has arrived. Tomorrow, the 19th, at midnight, it officially goes live!
First, I want to thank everyone for your support during this time; there are new friends and old friends alike. I am deeply grateful for the support from many friends' tips, and I will make up for the extra chapters for the Alliance Leaders after the book goes live.
Next, I want to thank my editor-in-charge Xiaoyuan and editor-in-chief Lüdou for the help and modification suggestions they provided before the book started.
To me, after these years of getting along, Xiaoyuan is already much more than just an editor; she is also a very good friend. She really put a lot of effort into this new book, whether it was arranging recommendations or keeping an eye on the data; she was very responsible. Aside from being silly, this girl is great in every way.
Also, I must thank Mai Bao Xiaolangjun and Lao Motong for helping me look over the opening draft of the new book. Whenever we discuss writing techniques and insights, we are always able to spark some creative inspiration.
Besides that, I also want to thank the friends in the operations team. Nine Children has been helping me manage things since my first book; people like Wuhuaro and Pianqian are also actively providing voice acting for female characters, and Xiaomo and Hangtian are also very diligent and responsible. I look forward to some of the activities after the book goes live.
Oh right, there are also those readers who provided voice acting for the songs, although a few of them sang so damn badly, hahahahaha.
Finally, I want to specifically thank my girlfriend, You'eryuan Amay, for helping me make character art and helping me search for materials to post in the Chapter Discussion. After tipping an Alliance Leader, she even said she wanted to give me a Silver Alliance, but I stopped her.
She almost never read web novels before, and I don't know why she was able to get into this new book of mine, which has led to me suffering from the trouble of being urged to update.
Personally, I don't recommend that kind of "knife to the throat" way of urging updates. I feel that knife blades are too cold and easily affect a writer's update status, as well as... a portion of their dignity.
Everyone, please don't call her "sister-in-law" to urge for updates, lest she gets a big head.
However, she really likes being liked. Now, her biggest joy every day is opening Qidian to see if anyone has commented on or liked her Chapter Discussion posts. If she posts any high-quality content in the Chapter Discussion in the future, please do me a favor and like her to death. (Note: Liking her doesn't necessarily affect my update volume, please be aware.)
After the thanks are done, let's chat about "This Star Really Wants to Retire".
Judging from the title, this book seems to be an anti-trope story—the kind where, "Oh, I don't want to be famous, I just want to do XXX," but then they get famous for no reason, and they hate being famous to death!
But in reality, I never intended to write an anti-trope story from the beginning. Because there have been a lot of these types of stories in recent years, and many people have written them quite brilliantly, which has led to anti-tropes becoming a new kind of trope after everyone has seen them so much.
Some readers say that the current content doesn't match the title and they can't see any "retirement" content at all. I want to say something about this: the prerequisite for retirement is "This Star," and the talent show hasn't even ended yet, hahaha, so it doesn't meet the prerequisite.
Additionally, the title actually has several meanings, some of which will only be revealed later, so I won't spoil them here. The meaning that is relatively clear for now is the relationship between Luo Mo and the Strangers. The tenet of the Strangers is to work overtime, always work overtime, which evolves into "This Star Can Forget About Retiring," and that becomes a kind of interaction.
Many old friends or readers who follow entertainment novels should know that I achieved some success with my first book, "Tiaoxi Wenyu," and then I haven't touched this genre since.
Many entertainment writers have collectively expressed that the entertainment genre is relatively easy for the writer themselves to get tired of. That is why many entertainment writers switch genres after writing one book. It's just that some succeed, and some fail.
Personally, I feel that after finishing this genre, one needs to take a break and accumulate some new material in one's belly before writing again.
After four years, after much turning and twisting, I feel that I have new material in my belly again, which is why I started this new entertainment-genre book.
Overall, I can clearly feel my progress in this genre. In my heart, entertainment and fan-fiction are relatively easy genres for a writer to get started with.
However, it is easy to produce a high-quality work, but difficult to reach ten thousand subscriptions.
If you just write in a formulaic way—copying literature, getting famous, copying literature, getting more famous... readers get tired of it very easily.
This genre actually tests one's writing ability.
The most introductory way of writing is the pure formulaic style I mentioned above. A slightly more capable way is, like when writing songs, choosing songs that fit the plot and Drama well. The most common pattern is the male lead experiencing XXX and then singing something like "Exaggerated," which enhances the sense of immersion and satisfaction.
But for this book, I want to try something new; people always have to break through. Up to now, I can give myself a score of over 90 for all the content in the free period.
This genre is actually quite boring. First of all, selling copyrights is very difficult; basically, IPs won't really appear, and everyone just earns subscription royalties. Then, the ceiling is actually not high; the various records for this genre on Qidian so far are actually not very high either.
So, I hope everyone can subscribe, even if it's just the first subscription.
Having rambled on to this point, let me report the current results of this book to everyone.
As of today, there are nearly 120,000 followers, and it is currently 34th on the overall monthly ticket ranking.
The editor told me that the follow-up reading by paid users in the past few days is 12,270.
This data actually won't be too different from the first subscription results.
However, I have gained over ten thousand more followers in the past few days. I am still on the Sanjiang recommendation, and tomorrow is the splash screen launch, which means there is another big recommendation, so the various data should see another surge, but I have no idea how much it will rise.
In terms of data, there is a chance to break the historical first subscription record for traditional star entertainment genres on Qidian so far. Well, I can only say there is a chance.
Back then, my book "Tiaoxi Wenyu" had 80,000 followers and an average subscription of nearly 12,000. Now I have 120,000 followers before going live, I... I won't brag anymore.
Anyway, the final result still depends on every single reader.
Well, tomorrow at midnight, which is the midnight of August 19th, the VIP chapters will be released. Since the system might be delayed for a while, it is estimated that they will be uploaded around 12:10 AM.
Please subscribe! Please give monthly tickets!
This is the Qidian trainee with four years of training time, Kindergarten Leader, ready to debut!
