Chapter 708: From Now On, CCTV Is No Longer Invincible

In the Penguin Video live broadcast, countless viewers felt immense admiration in their hearts after watching the stage performance of "As You Wish."

"As expected of a stage designed by Luo Mo."

"The lyrics of this song are written so well!"

"Let others see what is called a grand vision!"

Many people did not expect that, under Luo Mo's design, an ordinary New Year's Eve countdown could turn into the transition between the old and new eras.

In the song "As You Wish" itself, within about 3 minutes, it reaches the line, "【The mountains and rivers are safe, the fireworks are ordinary】."

Therefore, the New Year's Eve fireworks show was very precisely timed.

As Xu Chujing sang this line, the fireworks across the entire stage bloomed in unison, and the effect was maxed out!

Luo Mo precisely grasped the psychology of the audience.

Setting off fireworks for New Year's Eve is originally a very routine matter.

On Blue Star, every satellite television station basically uses this trick every year.

But the design here at Octopus TV was much more novel.

Everyone's attention was on the song.

Combined with the lyrics, combined with the moving moments before, and then having such a precise timing... just this alone left other satellite stations behind by several streets.

Besides this, if one digs deeper, does this stage only bring emotion to young people?

It is not just that.

Emotion is certainly there, after all, it contains praise and Gratitude for the sacrifices made by our predecessors.

However, as mentioned earlier, this song is divided into three stages: 【Gratitude】, 【Inheritance】, and 【Pioneering】.

In the 【Pioneering】 stage, it naturally speaks of our generation embarking on a new journey.

Coupled with the replacement of the new year and the old year... a sense of responsibility spontaneously arises in everyone!

Is this world better than before?

That is natural.

But it can definitely be even better!

The prairie fire transformed from a single spark can continue to spread!

This kind of sense of responsibility for the era, this kind of commitment to the era, makes everyone's hearts surge!

Luo Mo once watched a video of a university associate professor who said that Huaxia has developed rapidly in all aspects over these decades, and now, it has reached the stage of reaching the summit.

The road to the summit will be very difficult to walk, and it will be very hard.

But countless people firmly believe that this great country will once again stand at the pinnacle of the world!

But at his age, he is Afraid he will not be able to see it.

Then, he looked around at the students sitting below and asked: "Then, who can see it?"

"It is you!"

Everyone working together, my dears!

Countless viewers, after watching this stage and listening to this song, had hearts that could not be calm for a long time.

Many people still had a sense of trance.

"Am I really watching a local satellite station's gala?"

Yes, this feeling is very wonderful.

Local satellite station galas, especially those for New Year's Eve, generally follow a route that is more entertainment-oriented.

Some satellite stations even have the motto—entertainment to death!

Up until now, everyone has not seen such a "bizarre" New Year's Eve gala on any satellite station's gala!

The satirical power of the sketch can be described as daring; even CCTV does not see sketches of this level very often.

Speaking of the dance, it made everyone's national pride spontaneously arise.

Then moving on to "Listen to Mom" and the poem "Picking a Mom," it gave people even more warmth and emotion.

Finally, "As You Wish" pulled the vision and class to the highest level!

If this were a CCTV gala, many viewers would give it a very high score in their hearts.

But if it is only a local satellite station's gala... then, I will give you a full score, or even exceed the full score!

"Octopus TV has become legendary this year!"

The night was already very deep, and the New Year's Eve galas of the major satellite stations and CCTV almost all drew their curtains at the same time.

Ning Dan let out a long sigh of relief backstage, revealing a smile of relief.

The staff around her also had an unaccustomed feeling of a heavy burden suddenly being lifted.

At this moment, applause suddenly rang out.

Everyone turned to look for the source of the sound, only to see Luo Mo standing there, clapping with a smile.

"Everyone has worked hard! Today's gala was a great success!"

"Hmm? Why are you all stunned? Cheer!"

Everyone was still standing there blankly.

Luo Mo knew that he had to use his Killer move.

"I have just had Station Master Xu calculate the Average Viewership Rating for tonight."

"I won't say the specific value, everyone can go to the 【Television Network】 to see it tomorrow; I will only tell you that compared to last year's Average Viewership Rating for Octopus TV, it has increased by 227.2%!"

As soon as the words fell, overwhelming cheers erupted backstage.

These days are not like they used to be.

It is too hard to increase viewership ratings.

This data is simply unbelievable!

As members of the team, it is hard for them not to be excited.

Everyone is looking forward to tomorrow too much.

Tonight, I am afraid that even Ning Dan will suffer from insomnia, right?

On the other side, backstage at CCTV.

Director Li Dongliang has a grave expression.

He looked at the Average Viewership Rating and suddenly felt his eyes grow dry and his limbs stiffen.

"Down 12% from last year?"

"How is that possible!!!"

Over these years, the Average Viewership Rating for various holiday galas on CCTV has basically been declining.

In these 5 years, the decline for each gala has hovered between 5% and 13%.

These days, fewer and fewer people watch television stations, and everyone's interest in galas is getting lower and lower.

During various holidays, I am afraid there are more young people checking into hotels than young people watching television.

Of course, the few galas that Luo Mo participated in were a bit better.

However, it was mainly better in terms of the 【Peak Value】, not the 【Average Viewership Rating】.

Once he participates and writes a few new songs, the viewership ratings for several programs will indeed soar.

But the entire gala is so long that relying on a few viewership peaks cannot save the 【Average Viewership Rating】.

A high 【Peak Value】 is enough to fulfill the assignment.

A 12% decline is equivalent to nearly becoming the most painful decline in these five years!

Only that director who had a 13% decline provided a floor for our Director Li, allowing him to gloriously take second-to-last place.

"Impossible, this margin is very abnormal!"

Yes, it is indeed abnormal.

The reason why that year had a 13% decline and set a record was that the Four Great Satellite Channels were like they had activated a cheat code; every channel's gala was done brilliantly and was very good to watch!

Therefore, the audience was carved up by those four.

"With a 12% decline, which channel, or which channels, attracted the audience?" A vague sense of foreboding gradually rose in Director Li Dongliang's heart.

Actually, he only needs to pick up his phone now, open Weibo or a short video platform, and look at the Hot Search list to understand.

Several stages on Octopus TV have forcefully dominated the rankings, their popularity remaining high, showing a trend of crushing the competition!

However, this phone feels as if it weighs a thousand pounds.

Director Li is getting old and feels a bit unable to pick it up.

………

………

The next day, the sun rose.

This night, Luo Mo and Xu Chujing slept in each other's arms at the hotel.

After all, it is January 1st; loving young couples are always good at picking good days.

On the other side, far away in Beijing, Mrs. Zhong Lin, who has been married for many years, is already allergic to romance.

Although it is a New Year's Day holiday, she still got up early.

He Ping'an and Ji Huawen are old and sleep early, so they did not see the stage for "As You Wish" last night.

Ji Huawen slept at He Ping'an's house last night; after the two elders were sleepy, Zhong Lin went home and then watched the entire Octopus TV gala in one go.

After watching it, she had one thought!

Should I go accompany the two elders to watch a rebroadcast today?

Although they mentioned watching it tomorrow when they were sleepy, what if... they forgot?

I must go to Great-Uncle's house and firmly hold the television remote control in my hands!

For any elderly person with a special status and special experiences like the two elders, if they didn't see the stage for "As You Wish," I would be sad, OK?

And when she arrived at Great-Uncle's home, she found that the two elders were already watching the rebroadcast.

When she arrived, it was just playing "Listen to Mom."

Zhong Lin felt it was magical.

Two white-haired elders were listening intently to Luo Mo Singing rap there; the scene could not be more beautiful.

"Great-Uncle, Grandpa Ji, do you think this song sounds good?" Zhong Lin asked.

The two elders both indicated: "Not quite used to listening to it."

Ji Huawen smiled and said: "But this song is clearly meant for young people to listen to; we were never its target audience to begin with."

To put it directly, at their age, wanting to listen to Mom is already a luxury...

But when that little poem "Picking a Mom" appeared, Ji Huawen immediately said: "This poem is good!"

The writing style seems very childish, as if expressing things in the tone of a young child.

But the more it is like this, the more sincere the emotion, and the more pure it appears!

As the head of CCTV, the regret in Ji Huawen's heart is increasing.

Zhong Lin just accompanied the two elders like this; even if it was watching a rebroadcast, she watched it with great interest.

Finally, it reached the stage for "As You Wish."

Honestly, in her view, watching it now, missing the precise timing of the New Year's Eve fireworks, the atmosphere will be a bit lacking.

At the stroke of midnight, listening to this song while watching the fireworks is the most thrilling thing.

But it doesn't matter.

Because He Ping'an and Ji Huawen have unique personal experiences, they are naturally different from ordinary young viewers.

When they heard the first stage of the song, 【Gratitude】, they were filled with mixed emotions and even fell into reminiscence.

When they heard the second stage of the song, 【Inheritance】, they were moved by this song and even felt a sense of gratification.

And when they heard the third stage, 【Pioneering】, they were completely moved by the spirit of this song!

Yes, it is the spirit!

Since it is 【Pioneering】, it naturally possesses a grand spirit!

When the song ended, even He Ping'an couldn't help but exclaim, "This stage should have been broadcast on CCTV."

Upon hearing this, Ji Huawen opened his mouth, but in the end, he only sighed and said, "The entire gala should have been broadcast on CCTV."

The old man stood up and said, "Let's go."

"Not staying for lunch?" He Ping'an asked.

"Not staying." The old man waved his hand.

He really had no appetite.

……..

……..

New Year's Day, twelve o'clock noon.

【Television Network】 will announce the viewership data for each New Year's Eve Gala from last night at this time.

Many industry insiders and onlookers came to check the data immediately.

Yes, netizens actually love looking at data.

Just like many readers who read web novels, they are especially fond of paying attention to the first-day subscriptions when a novel is released.

As the Boss, CCTV is certainly listed separately in the data table.

The purpose of 【Television Network】 is to only publish data and not rank them, so the data for the major satellite TV stations is not arranged from high to low, but sorted in alphabetical order.

Everyone looked at CCTV's first, huh, it dropped 12%?

There is nothing much to see regarding CCTV's Average Viewership Rating; it is definitely first because the coverage is right there.

The focus is on the increase and decrease.

Director Li Dongliang, as the fifth of the Four Great Directors, doesn't seem to be doing very well!

"Tsk, this is the lowest in five years, a drop of 13%, right?" Some industry insiders are still well-informed.

Whoa, why do I feel like I could do better myself!

If it were about getting first or second place in an exam, I definitely couldn't do it.

But when it comes to getting the last or second-to-last place, I still have some confidence.

"This is equivalent to being nailed to the pillar of shame!"

"And he calls himself the fifth of the Four Great Directors; his reputation is ruined."

"Tsk, failing to maintain his integrity in his later years!"

Quite a few people also watched some of CCTV's programs and felt that in many places, they were trying too hard to show depth.

It's not that having substance is bad; aren't stages like "Wish" very good?

But the point is that you have to let me understand it.

Audience: If I can't understand your substance, it's equivalent to you having no substance!

If it can't be seen, it doesn't exist!

Look at Luo Mo.

His solo stage upgraded the emotion by integrating poetry.

Xu Chujing's diva stage was an even more perfect sublimation.

When ordinary people listen to songs, they actually just stop at listening to the song.

But excellent stage design allows people to see the layers; many people can immediately feel that this song is divided into stages and is progressing.

This is finding a way to let you hear more clearly and see more clearly.

Resonance, isn't that how it comes about?

If you make it so mysterious that only you understand it, then that's just self-indulgence.

Viewers who watched the CCTV program expressed one after another: "I express extreme approval of CCTV's viewership ratings!"

One word—deserved!

After finishing the CCTV data, everyone started looking down at the major satellite TV stations.

I have to say, this year's data chart is very strange.

Logically speaking, with such a large drop for CCTV, those viewers must have been absorbed by the satellite stations.

But most of the satellite stations are also dropping.

It's just that some dropped more, and some dropped less.

Against this backdrop, the data of one satellite station is quite outrageous!

Everyone else's data is green, for example, green "-4%" or "-7%".

If the data is growing, then it is red.

It is not just Octopus TV that has red data.

It's just that its red is a bit long; damn it, it's red into three digits!

——【+227.2%】!

It is simply too outrageous!

From last year's Average Viewership Rating of 0.68%, it rose to 2.22%!

Furthermore, this year, not a single one of the Four Great Satellite Channels broke 2%!

They were all in the 1.6%-1.9% range.

This caused industry insiders to collectively gasp, exacerbating global warming.

Especially the high-level executives of the major satellite channels, who felt incomparably miserable in their hearts.

Turning decay into magic!

This scene is so familiar.

Back in the day, Octopus TV rose suddenly in the television drama sector in exactly the same way!

Of course, while the ambitious Four Great Satellite Channels felt a sense of frustration, the other satellite channels that were as lethargic as Octopus TV usually was, unable to rise up, seemed to have discovered a masterpiece of "Success Studies."

They were gloating, wanting to watch the spectacle.

"Speaking of which, since the viewership ratings have risen so much, then the online Live Broadcast data should be even more exaggerated, right?" everyone thought.

After all, these days, many people turn on their televisions but don't watch TV stations; they all watch video platforms.

Now, everyone is waiting for the online data to be released.

………

………

CCTV, Director Chen's office.

Looking at the data laid out before him, he suddenly wanted to smash something.

That Octopus TV would take off was within expectations.

But CCTV only ever compares itself to itself.

Because no matter how strong other satellite channels are, due to inherent flaws, it is impossible for them to surpass CCTV.

The problem is that CCTV's own decline is too large, reaching as high as 12%!

"Li Dongliang, what use are you?" he cursed furiously in his heart.

Such poor results will make the problem several times more serious.

The people above will be very dissatisfied with his work this time.

Being criticized would be considered light!

"Fortunately, it's just the New Year's Eve Gala, not the Spring Festival Gala."

"If it were the Spring Festival Gala..." Director Chen didn't even dare to think about it!

He rose from his chair, prepared to leave the office, go for a stroll outside, and then find a few people he found unpleasant to scold, using that to vent.

This is a very normal phenomenon; many people, during their school days, are prone to bad luck when their homeroom teacher is in a bad mood, let alone after they start working.

As soon as Director Chen opened his office door, he was startled.

Because there was someone standing right there outside the door.

"Xiao Liu? Why have you been standing at the door?" Director Chen glared at him in Anger.

Xiao Liu was also very helpless.

He had come to deliver the online data form, but he didn't quite dare to knock on this door.

Xiao Liu had intended to mentally prepare himself before entering to deliver the form, but he hadn't expected them to bump into each other head-on.

You say you were startled, I was fucking startled too!

"Director, this is... this is the online data sheet," Xiao Liu said.

"Give it here." Director Chen snatched it away.

On Earth, every video platform has its own set of data standards.

Some look at click volume, some have even canceled click volume, turning it into a site-wide index, and others look at "number of visits"... in short, they are all different.

On Blue Star, things are very uniform; except for the maverick Little Rotten Station, all other platforms have a unified "algorithm" that provides a "Live Broadcast Heat Index."

CCTV's New Year's Eve Gala this time had a "Heat Index" of 8760.

"It actually fell below 9000?" Director Chen was exasperated.

Previous New Year's Eve Galas were always just over 9000.

Seeing that Director Chen hadn't continued reading, Xiao Liu planned to find an excuse to slip away first.

"Director Chen, then I'll first..." Before he finished speaking, he saw Director Chen standing there, petrified.

The reason was simple: Octopus TV's New Year's Eve Gala "Heat Index" this year was 10031!

It broke ten thousand, it actually broke ten thousand!

The dignified CCTV, in terms of online Live Broadcast, actually lost to a local satellite channel!

And it was Octopus TV, which didn't even count as one of the Four Great Satellite Channels!

If it were just a serious decline in viewership ratings, that could only be considered a major mistake.

There is responsibility, but it wouldn't be unbearable.

However, CCTV actually lost!

How could CCTV lose?

How could CCTV be allowed to lose?

CCTV's status is unshakable!

—From this moment on, CCTV is no longer invincible.

This is a disgrace, a disgrace to all of CCTV!

And he, Director Chen, cannot escape responsibility for this!

"This is going to... be a huge disaster!"

—Li Dongliang has ruined me!

Director Chen immediately turned his head, preparing to return to his office and sit down.

What the hell is the point of going to scold people to vent; he needed to calm down quickly and draft his response!

As it turned out, the moment he turned around, he was called out again.

Someone trotted over and said, "Director Chen, the Station Head wants you to go to his office."

Director Chen's heart sank instantly.

Along the way, he walked a bit slowly.

Because he was brainstorming, frantically drafting his response, and thinking of all sorts of excuses.

But every road has an end, and even if you are stalling for time, you have to know the limits; you can't keep the Station Head waiting too long, right?

If you wait too long, all your excuses will appear completely meaningless.

After knocking on the door, he walked into the office.

Ji Huawen's office is equipped with a large screen.

Right now, the large screen is playing the Octopus TV gala.

What's even more fatal is that it is playing Liu Gongming's sketch—"Catering to Preferences."

(PS: Asking for monthly votes at the beginning of the month.

Book friend "Zhang Fei" specially edited a video based on the stage of the previous chapter "As Wished," restoring a part of the stage I wrote about in the book, yes, that part about "That Rabbit."

I have already featured it in the Easter Egg chapter, and it can also be found in the book review section; everyone can take a look if interested, it's great.

Honestly, it feels quite magical to have the stage I racked my brains to design partially restored by a book friend like this.)
