Chapter 109: A Restless Night (Part 1)

~7 min read 1,317 words

"That is a Seismosaurus, most likely the largest herbivorous dinosaur on Earth..."

Just as everyone was dumbfounded by that monster, an excited, hushed male voice rang out not far away.

Sun Cheng looked toward the sound and discovered that the speaker was a middle-aged white man with slightly messy light brown hair. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt that was clearly cheap store-bought clothing. At this moment, he was looking at the Seismosaurus with excitement, his desire for exploration undisguised, as if on a pilgrimage, muttering to himself.

"This is Doctor Grant, one of the most famous dinosaur experts in the American archaeological community..." Doctor Hammond smiled and waved at Grant, but unfortunately, he did not pay any attention to Hammond.

Instead, another woman next to Grant, wearing sunglasses and with a hairstyle that also looked somewhat messy, nodded apologetically to Hammond, then pulled him over.

"This beautiful lady is Doctor Saitele, an authority on paleobotany..."

The child-like Doctor Hammond did not show any dissatisfaction even after being ignored by Grant; instead, he introduced the lady with an excited face.

"Hello..."

Doctor Saitele greeted everyone somewhat shyly. It was evident that, like Durant, she was not someone who excelled at socializing.

One had to admit, the shock brought to everyone by the gargantuan Seismosaurus was truly too intense.

So much so that even though everyone present was a shrewd person filled with interests and calculations, they were still thoroughly impacted by the dinosaur that shouldn't have existed. It took a long time for anyone to come to their senses, and they rushed in front of Hammond to ask, "Doctor, is this a real dinosaur?"

"What, don't believe your own eyes? With something this big, are you still afraid I'm faking it? Haha..." Hammond was triumphant.

He shook his cane and pointed into the distance, "There isn't just one dinosaur here; look over there..."

Everyone looked in the direction his cane pointed. Even those with poorer eyesight could easily see that at a pond over a hundred meters away, another slightly smaller Diplodocus was leisurely wandering in the water. By the side of the pond, over a dozen small, unknown dinosaurs the size of elephants were drinking water—what a harmonious and peaceful scene.

Doctor Grant immediately acted as if he had lost his mind, whistling as he ran toward the pond.

Saitele also covered her face in disbelief, and soon she followed him and ran toward the pond as well.

"... My God, this is simply a miracle..."

Sun Cheng clearly heard the exclamation from the venture capital representative from Scottrey. Hammond clearly heard it too and looked at him triumphantly, his white beard shaking incessantly with his smile, "No, this is not a miracle... it is a miracle created by science..."

Subsequently, under his guidance, the group cautiously approached the pond. The boldest among them, Ada Wong, even took the initiative to approach an elephant-sized dinosaur. Unexpectedly, she had only gotten within three to five meters of the dinosaur when she startled the one that had still been drinking water.

Accompanied by a long howl like a train whistle, those dozen or so elephant-sized dinosaurs all sprayed water vapor from their nostrils in alarm and actually timidly ran away!

"That is a Parasaurolophus, a very timid type of herbivorous dinosaur..."

Doctor Grant said to the group somewhat angrily. He had also been slowly trying to approach the Parasaurolophus that were drinking by the pond, but he hadn't expected Ada Wong to disrupt the rhythm.

However, he was a man with good manners and did not lose his temper at a young lady; he only stomped his feet on the grass. It seemed he still felt very regretful that he could not have close contact with these creatures from hundreds of millions of years ago.

This encounter undoubtedly confirmed that what everyone saw was not fake. There really were dinosaurs on Nublar Island. Hammond's International Genetic Technologies had somehow actually managed to revive these creatures that should have long been extinct.

Which of the venture capitalists present wasn't a shrewd person? In the blink of an eye, they realized the true value of the owner of Nublar Island—Hammond—and the International Genetic Technologies that had resurrected the dinosaurs, and they all swarmed him at once.

"Doctor Hammond, I think we can discuss the matter of financing..."

"Regarding the 1.5 billion dollar financing, we at Sequoia think it is feasible, but there are still some details that need to be discussed..."

To avoid being suspected, Sun Cheng also followed along and shouted a few times. It was just joining in the noise anyway, just like these venture capitalists who all planned to find Hammond privately at night; there was no real interest.

Hammond was clearly also prepared to hold out for a better price. Everyone tacitly made a ruckus for a while, and soon, as the island staff responsible for the barbecue came over to invite them to dine, a unique island-style barbecue dinner began!

When the two-hour dinner ended, the Sun had already set, and only a hint of the red glow of the sunset could be seen on the horizon.

International Genetic Technologies' construction on Nublar Island clearly hadn't been a matter of a day or two. After eating and drinking their fill, there were naturally people responsible for 'cleaning up the battlefield.' Sun Cheng and the others got back on the minibus and followed behind Hammond's car, driving toward the island.

After the vehicle drove away from the grassland, the number of human-made structures that could be seen suddenly increased.

In areas near the mountain forests, one could see towering steel wire fences, and there were electrified warning signs everywhere.

Besides that, there were three larger buildings on the island.

The smallest of them was a building with only five floors. It looked like its total area would not exceed two thousand square meters. It was the Dinosaur Technology Research Center of International Genetic Technologies, and in the future, it would also be used as a dinosaur museum.

Sun Cheng and the others followed behind Hammond and were brought here.

Here, Hammond and the technicians from International Genetic Technologies revealed to them in detail how Hammond, who was crazy about paleontology, used a strategy of throwing money around to fund archaeological teams everywhere, finally finding an Ancient Amber in a mine that contained a mosquito from hundreds of millions of years ago.

Relying on a drop of dinosaur blood extracted from the amber, they used the most advanced genetic technology to trace a set of dinosaur DNA.

Subsequently, International Genetic Technologies employed the world's top supercomputers and utilized a large number of top-tier engineers to actually find the loopholes in that incomplete genetic data chain and used frog genes to complete it.

After watching a newborn dinosaur that had just broken out of its shell at the Yanjiu Zhongxin, Sun Cheng and the others were driven to the resort by security personnel.

Calling it a resort, it was actually just a few of Hammond's private villas. This was probably the area on the island with the most complete facilities at the moment.

Not only were Sun Cheng and the others arranged to spend the night here, but the other guests invited by Hammond—Doctor Grant, his wife Doctor Saitele, and another Doctor Malcolm—and even Hammond himself all stayed here.

PS:

1. My uncle's cousin passed away last year. I went to my uncle's house for the Dragon Boat Festival today and spent it with him. I came back a bit late. This is the first update; there will be another one in a while.

2. Looking at 【Jurassic】 filmed in the 1990s with today's eyes, no matter how I look at it, it feels a bit small-scale. For the convenience of the plot, I will make some appropriate adjustments to the buildings on the island and so on.
