Chapter 125: Hunting Game (Part 1)

The Hunter is here!

As soon as the scream of the heavy machine gunner Bulian rang out, combined with the vibration alert of the Vengeance in his arms, Sun Cheng reacted immediately, knowing it must be the "Ghost Hunter" it had mentioned earlier.

Major Daqi and the others reacted even faster than Sun Cheng; as their gazes turned toward the doorway, the heavy machine gunner Bulian had already fallen to the ground, his corpse just happening to block the half-door that was ready to swing back, allowing everyone to see a gruesome sight: his neck had been slashed by some unknown sharp weapon, and blood was currently spurting out profusely.

"No..."

The black Sergeant Major Maike only glanced at Bulian for a second before his eyes split with rage; he hoisted his heavy machine gun and charged toward the doorway.

Major Daqi was faster than him; he immediately snatched a Stun Grenade from his gear, quickly ran to the side of Doctor Saitele, pulled her behind him, and then kicked open the other half of the restaurant door, hurling the Stun Grenade in the direction Bulian was facing!

"Boom!"

The sound of the explosion rang out immediately; the Native American Warrior Bili nimbly rushed to Bulian's side, grabbed his right leg, and pulled him back with a sudden burst of single-armed strength, the veins on his arm visibly popping out, actually dragging him into the restaurant.

"Quick, stop the bleeding..."

Maike, carrying a heavy machine gun weighing several dozen kilograms, finally rushed to the restaurant entrance as well; his gaze lingered on Bulian for only an instant before he roared at Bin and Huojinsi behind him with tear-filled eyes.

As for himself, he charged out of the restaurant, carrying the machine gun in hatred, and began firing wildly toward the other side of the restaurant.

Bili also rushed out behind him; outside the restaurant door, Major Daqi, Maike, and Bili formed a sharp wall of fire—one heavy machine gun, one M4A1, and one Grenade Launcher—firing with fierce, hateful intensity; surely, even if they encountered a platoon on the battlefield, they would only be suppressed for the time being.

Yet, their opponent was not human!

"Stop..."

After reloading and firing another Grenade, Major Daqi drew his pistol from his leg and fired a burst; after emptying the magazine, he looked to the side and realized that the heavy machine gunner Maike's ammunition was also spent, yet he was still staring fixedly at the other side of the corridor with hatred, pressing the trigger incessantly as if he had lost his mind, completely unaware that his bullets were long gone; he had no choice but to shout loudly at Maike, which finally brought him back to his senses.

"Bili..."

Major Daqi gave Bili a signal, and the two immediately swapped magazines, cautiously moving forward to scout the situation.

The black Sergeant Major Maike tossed his machine gun aside, walked into the restaurant, knelt beside Bulian, and began to sob in a low voice.

The communications soldier Bin also patted his shoulder sadly, took out a white handkerchief used for wiping sweat, and covered Bulian's face with it.

Bulian had been slashed in the neck by a sharp blade, the wound piercing his carotid artery; he was already dead when he was pulled back.

Sun Cheng also leaned over to look at the wound, calculating for a moment in his heart, knowing this must have been caused by the Hunter's Disc Dart.

Doctor Saitele was indeed a tough woman; despite being quite shaken and not even understanding the situation yet, she still approached the only acquaintance she had—Sun Cheng—and asked, "... Sir, what happened here?"

Sun Cheng caught the momentary mumble in her mouth; clearly, Doctor Saitele had not remembered Sun Cheng's name, unlike how he had remembered hers.

However, he was curious about what she had encountered, so he didn't mind, simply pulling her to the side before whispering: "About two hours ago, the security system at the villa suddenly shut down. I realized something was wrong and wanted to come to the Research Center to ask about the situation, but I ran into them on the way and followed them here..."

He paused, glanced at Dilong, who had already noticed them whispering, and without stopping, continued: "I don't know who they are either, but it seems some changes have occurred here at the Research Center. We saw many corpses when we arrived... What about you? Why haven't I seen Doctor Grant?"

"Oh, God!"

Doctor Saitele was clearly terrified by the many corpses he mentioned; she covered her face and mouth for a long while before answering him with a trembling voice: "I wasn't with Ailun... This afternoon I found some sick dinosaurs on the island, and while I was helping them, it started to rain... I wanted to contact the Research Center to send someone to pick me up, but I found there was no signal at all, so I had to walk back... My God, a Dilophosaurus attacked us, Mr. Aideer is dead, and Feiruidi fell into the Canyon while running away; I came back to find someone to save him..."

As expected!

Sun Cheng's heart sank; he remembered hearing Doctor Grant mention in the afternoon that the Dilophosaurus was also a solitary carnivorous dinosaur that could spit venom to capture prey.

He glanced at the woman before him, feeling a bit envious of her luck; if the Dilophosaurus weren't a solitary dinosaur rather than a pack animal, she would certainly have been done for if she had encountered even one more!

"God, Ailun hasn't come back yet; he is with the children, could they be in danger..."

"God, what has happened on the island? Where is Hammond?"

The two exchanged a few words, briefly sharing what they knew; Sun Cheng didn't care much, as it only confirmed one of his grim suspicions.

However, Doctor Saitele, having learned too much bad news from him, completely broke down and squatted there crying.

Sun Cheng was not good with words; after trying to comfort her twice without seeing any improvement, he simply stopped paying attention to her and looked back at Bin and Huojinsi, who were standing guard at the door.

Outside the restaurant, a series of footsteps approached from afar.

Seeing the two relax their vigilance and head toward the door, Sun Cheng understood immediately: Major Daqi and the others must have returned.

Sure enough, Huojinsi soon asked: "Major, how is the situation?"

"Can't find anything, not a single trace, no blood, no corpses, we didn't hit anything..."

Major Daqi had a gloomy face; after pushing the door open and walking back into the restaurant, he said coldly to Dilong: "Dilong, you had better contact the Base yourself and explain our situation here to the General..."

Dilong had wanted to say something else, but upon looking up and seeing his gloomy expression, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue and nodded, heading toward the Satellite Communicator!

"Maike..."

Major Daqi called out, but the black Sergeant Major did not respond.

He had to call out again, and only then did Maike stand up and answer; he ordered: "You, along with Huojinsi, Bili, and Bin, prepare some explosives and set some traps on the first floor; we will re-examine the Research Center in a moment, then retreat to the fifth floor to await rescue!"

Hearing the words "await rescue" from the mouth of the man who always prided himself on being the best rescue team, everyone felt a chill in their hearts, knowing that their iron-willed Commander was now thoroughly terrified.

After Maike answered and was just about to take the others to set the traps, suddenly, a sharp roar came from outside the restaurant again; the expressions of Sun Cheng and the others changed in unison—they were not unfamiliar with this sound; wasn't it the Velociraptor they had just encountered not long ago?!
