Chapter 126: Hunting Game (Part 2)

"Velociraptors?! Everyone, take positions!"

Major Daqi's expression darkened further. After exchanging a look with Bili, Huojinsi, and Bin, the four of them simultaneously attached Grenade Launchers to their weapons, then walked out of the Canting with caution, heading toward the lobby where the sound had come from.

Behind him, Dilong and Maike also picked up their weapons. Seeing this, Sun Cheng had no choice but to pull on Doctor Saitele, preparing to follow along.

"Something's not right!" Bili was the first to sense something strange, whispering, "This sound sounds more like a threat..."

Major Daqi's eyes flickered; he neither nodded nor answered him.

Maintaining vigilance while moving forward carefully, the group did not walk fast. When they carefully exited the corridor and could see the first-floor lobby of the Yanjiu Zhongxin not far away, their expressions all changed simultaneously after seeing the situation inside.

At this moment, inside the first-floor lobby, near the Tyrannosaurus rex fossil placed by International Genetic Technologies, two Velociraptor carcasses were glaringly conspicuous.

One of the Velociraptors had its neck cleanly severed; judging by the wound, it should be the same as the Gallimimus from the afternoon, both cut by some kind of extremely sharp blade.

The other Velociraptor was no better off. Aside from a few wounds that had pierced its scales, the most terrifying was a huge bloody hole on one side of its body. Foul-smelling blood was gushing out frantically like a fountain, and it had already formed a pool of blood beside the carcass!

At the entrance of the Yanjiu Zhongxin, three Velociraptors were pacing back and forth uneasily, looking wary and vigilant. One of the Velociraptors had only one eye intact; these three Velociraptors were none other than the ones that had attacked them not long ago!

Just as Bili raised his weapon to fire, he was stopped by Major Daqi reaching out. He saw that the gaze of these Velociraptors was not on them. Led by the tallest and most robust one, they all raised their heads and kept baring their teeth at a certain spot above, emitting low, threatening sounds. The murderous intent and ferocity in their eyes were so thick it made one feel cold to the bone.

Major Daqi followed their line of sight and looked up into mid-air, but he did not see anything.

Just as he was curious, he didn't expect that after the three Velociraptors twitched their noses, they actually turned their heads to look at them, revealing an expression of hatred.

This hostility made the group tighten their grip on their weapons. Just as they were about to react, the lead dragon unexpectedly roared again, then turned and retreated from the Yanjiu Zhongxin building with the other two Velociraptors, quickly disappearing into the night.

"Huh!"

Finally coming to his senses, Doctor Saitele let out a sigh of relief. She said curiously, "It's truly strange. Although Velociraptors are only a type of small dinosaur, they are ferocious and agile, and they also move in groups. Even hundreds of millions of years ago, they rarely had natural predators. Could it be that the Tyrannosaurus rex on the island has also escaped?"

"A Tyrannosaurus rex wouldn't use weapons..."

Major Daqi looked up at the air and replied coldly, "There is something else here, a more dangerous enemy... It can easily hunt Velociraptors, and that includes us!"

These words were indeed true. Anyone with a discerning eye could see that those Velociraptors they had encountered not long ago were definitely tracking their scent to take revenge.

These vengeful and intelligent Velociraptors had suffered losses before and had tracked the scent all the way to the Yanjiu Zhongxin; they certainly had no intention of exposing themselves casually, unless they were attacked first or discovered other targets.

From the moment the first dinosaur roar was heard until they walked over from the Canting, the whole process took at most a minute or so.

In such a short time, the battle between the few Velociraptors and an unknown opponent had already ended. One Velociraptor had its head cut off, and another had its body pierced by a sharp blade and died from excessive blood loss. The combat power of that unknown opponent was evident.

Sun Cheng was hidden in the crowd, his eyes flickering slightly.

Without needing to think, he had already guessed who the opponent was, but he had no intention of saying it out loud.

Just explaining it would be a huge problem, and he was also very wary of these soldiers like Major Daqi who had suddenly appeared on the island.

A group of guys suspected to be special forces suddenly appearing on a private island made it impossible for him not to overthink.

After looking up for a long while without finding anything suspicious, Major Daqi frowned. Only then did he withdraw his gaze and whispered an order to the black Sergeant Major Maike: "Those beasts might come back. Maike, take a few Bouncing Betty mines and set a trap at the entrance..."

Sun Cheng and Saitele heard his words clearly. He was fine; his eyes just flickered without saying much. Doctor Saitele, however, looked incredulous, waving her hands and protesting loudly to Major Daqi, "No, you can't do this. They will hurt people!"

"Ma'am, do you think there are any living humans on this island besides us right now?"

Major Daqi swept a cold glance at her. The bone-chilling gaze actually scared this tough woman, making her body tremble slightly as she shrank back, not daring to retort again.

He then signaled to Maike again, and after the latter nodded, he immediately took a few Bouncing Betty mines out of his marching pack with caution and quickly set them up near the entrance of the Yanjiu Zhongxin.

Scout Bili had been walking around the lobby since just now, seemingly wanting to find some clues left behind by the battle between the Velociraptors and the unknown opponent.

His observation was meticulous. After checking the lobby for a while, he actually found something.

"Major..."

Hearing Bili's call, Major Daqi, along with Sun Cheng and the others, all subconsciously walked toward him. The group soon saw Bili crouching in front of a pool of grass-green liquid.

"What is it?"

Major Daqi asked, "Paint?"

Bili gave up his position without a word, signaling him to look for himself.

Major Daqi crouched down and leaned in to smell it, immediately feeling a foul stench rush toward him.

His expression changed slightly. He hurriedly extended a finger, dipped it slightly into the grass-green liquid to test its viscosity, and then, enduring the stench, brought it closer to his nose to smell it more carefully: "Blood?"

Common sense told him that this could never be the blood of humans or other animals, but the viscosity and smell were exactly consistent with the characteristics of blood that Major Daqi was familiar with.

Full of surprise, he looked up at Bili, and a bit more fear immediately appeared in his eyes.

Only then did Major Daqi realize that besides the dinosaurs, they had very likely become prey in the eyes of another even more bizarre and difficult-to-deal-with creature!

"Everyone, stay alert. The distance between each other must not exceed three steps..."

Standing up from the ground, Major Daqi wiped the foul-smelling grass-green blood off his hand onto his trouser leg before issuing the order again, "There is an extremely dangerous creature hiding in this building. We need to re-conduct a detailed search of the entire building to ensure safety!"

After speaking, he took the lead, raised the weapon in his hand, and walked into the building.
