Chapter 15: Targeting
The premonition was verified in a single second; over the next day, Sun Cheng finally learned what it was like to be mindlessly targeted by someone!
It seems the 【Camera Squad】 holds a deep grudge against the 【Cassette Corps】. The various taunts and jeers were one thing, but Reflector always seemed to be racking his brain for an excuse to find a reason to attack him.
This guy, whose brain doesn't seem to be working quite right, would suddenly fire a burst of intrusion data at him. It was bad enough that he intended to hack his 【Core】, rather than just interfering with his defensive functions.
Even worse, when this guy was leading him on a patrol through the Base, if Sun Cheng was the slightest bit inattentive, he would find that Reflector had vanished. Before long, an alarm would inevitably blare near his location, eventually drawing other Decepticons to cause him trouble.
Fortunately, Reflector still had some reservations about Barricade's warning, and this base, which looked like it had only just been built, hadn't yet installed an armed defense system, otherwise it would have been a disaster.
Even so, Sun Cheng was driven to the point of a nervous breakdown. Yet, with his current strength, he was completely powerless to resist Reflector. He could only follow him in a listless state, carefully guarding against his provocations while simultaneously observing this underground base where Starscream and the others were located.
One has to admit, the Decepticon Workers he had previously looked down upon were simply the most qualified slaves and laborers.
According to Reflector, this base had only been established for about a month.
But these diligent Decepticon Workers, who could work twenty-four hours a day without rest, had managed to dig dozens of kilometers further down on the foundation of a long-abandoned Mine, completing a massive project in an impossible amount of time that humans probably couldn't finish even with years of effort.
What is even more unimaginable is that while managing this excavation project, the Workers were also able to spare a portion of their number to break down metal and manufacture machines. And this massive amount of work was completed by only the hundred-plus Decepticon Workers that Starscream had brought from the Moon Base.
From a human perspective, this base was undoubtedly still very crude.
But Decepticons are different from humans. After Sun Cheng shifted his perspective slightly to observe from a Decepticon's point of view, he soon realized that this base had basically taken shape.
Starscream's base was mainly composed of three major parts: the Supply Room responsible for storing energy; the manufacturing plant responsible for assembling various machines and parts; and a large number of Geothermal Generator Units, with various passages interspersed between them.
Unless it is to save energy, this type of Mechanical Lifeform does not need to rest at all; no wonder their efficiency is so high.
The geothermal resources near Tucson are abundant, and the mountainous area is where the ley lines are most complex. The Decepticon Workers found suitable locations deep underground and densely installed sets of Geothermal Generator Units originating from Cybertronian civilization. The electrical energy continuously converted from the power of nature could be directly absorbed by the Decepticons to replenish the energy of their 【Core】, or transformed through complex conversion procedures into easily stored Energy Liquid or Energy Cube.
Conservatively, once all the Geothermal Generator Units began working, this base could convert no less than a hundred points of energy per day, with an efficiency comparable to a medium-sized thermal power plant.
"Bam!"
After being kicked into the wall again by a sudden blow from behind, Sun Cheng looked back after landing and, sure enough, saw Reflector standing in the distance, looking down at him without any intention of hiding it.
"... How boring. Are you already this weak after being resurrected? As expected, the 【Cassette Corps】 are all trash..."
Silently climbing up from the ground, Sun Cheng continued walking toward the hall where he had first seen Starscream and the others upon arriving at the base, without saying a word.
Through brief contact, he had already sensed that this guy Reflector definitely had something wrong with his brain. Not only did he continue the Decepticons' usual irritable temper and lack of patience, but it seemed his memory wasn't very good either.
At first, although Reflector had targeted him in various ways, he hadn't actually moved to attack him directly. Unfortunately, that didn't last long before he couldn't help but start for real.
Sun Cheng really had no way to deal with him.
Fight? He couldn't win.
So, after realizing that Reflector was playing for real, he tried his best to hide.
Yet this guy was so bored he actually started tracking him. Every time he was found, he would inevitably take a few hits, and this guy's strikes were getting heavier and heavier.
However, thanks to the fact that this guy's brain didn't seem to be working right, Sun Cheng—calculating against the uncalculating—managed to pry quite a bit of information he didn't know out of him.
After digesting all of Frenzy's Memory Data, Sun Cheng had originally thought that the unlucky guy he had possessed was just a newly born, low-level Decepticon spy.
But Reflector from the 【Camera Squad】 seemed very familiar with him. During his repeated provocations, he had mentioned the 【Cybertronian Civil War】 more than once. Judging by his tone, the original 'Frenzy' seemed to have been a high-level Decepticon, only to have died in battle for some reason and was only recently dragged back to be resurrected.
Although these were just some speculations he made based on what he heard from Reflector, after a simple summary, Sun Cheng still felt that there were many problems behind it.
He wanted to inquire more, but unfortunately, he was currently desperate to avoid Reflector, so he naturally wasn't willing to have any more contact with him and could only temporarily suppress the new doubts that had emerged in his heart.
Seeing him tuck tail and run, Reflector seemed to get even more worked up, laughing wildly as he chased after him.
"Whew..."
With a moment of inattention, Sun Cheng saw a crater appear just two or three centimeters from his feet. Sensing something was wrong, he quickly looked back and immediately took off running.
"Damn it, is this guy trying to kill me?"
During that brief look back, seeing that Reflector had already raised his right arm, revealing the Rapid-fire Machine Gun he was equipped with, Sun Cheng felt his scalp tingle.
As far as he knew, the Rapid-fire Machine Gun equipped by the Decepticon Legion used entirely caseless Energy Bullets. This was disgusting technology several eras ahead of the entry-level caseless bullets developed by humans. Not only did it have special effects on electronic equipment, but the heat generated by the explosion the moment it hit the target could easily destroy the memory alloy on his body.
This wasn't even Reflector's most terrifying weapon; it seemed he was also equipped with a Chemical Cannon that could easily corrode the special alloy bodies of high-level Decepticons. If this guy were crazy enough to fire one at him, Sun Cheng really didn't dare say whether he would die from a single shot.
"Bam!"
Dense bullets kept firing in his direction. Sun Cheng ran and jumped, dodging in a sorry state, his blue eyes glowing with increasing intensity.
"Hahahaha, run, keep running..."
Reflector kept waving his right arm, laughing non-stop as if watching a clown, letting the rattling electronic sound make one frown.
The 【Spy Template】 suddenly captured an electromagnetic fluctuation lurking nearby. Realizing it was Barricade, Sun Cheng couldn't help but feel even more annoyed, his teeth grinding so hard he could almost see sparks. He hurriedly roared: "Lord Barricade, if you don't come out now, I'm afraid I'll be dead here before I can serve you!"
One or two of them, they were either crazy or neurotic. Sun Cheng now deeply regretted returning to this world!
What kind of people are in the Decepticon Legion?
Based on his brief contact, not one of them was a good person. They were either hiding somewhere plotting against him, or plotting against him openly; not a single one of them treated him like a person.
The more he thought about it, the more stifled he felt, and Sun Cheng became ruthless. Regardless of what Starscream intended to plot against Soundwave, he was determined to get involved in this wave and trap these bastards to death.
