Chapter 247: Plotting Brazil
The CIA intelligence personnel monitoring Braxton were not limited to just the few he had just dealt with; there was another surveillance point two kilometers away, currently standing by.
Clearly, there was not much time left for Sun Cheng.
Because of the existence of the Autobots, he still had some reservations about appearing within the United States for long periods.
For now, although he had many doubts in his heart, he was in no rush to ask immediately.
Grabbing the grim-faced Braxton, Sun Cheng hoisted him halfway into the air, and ignoring his protests, quickly snatched him up, activated the Optical Stealth Net, and hurried toward the docks.
Taking Braxton out of the United States was not a very difficult task.
The United States' security measures were only somewhat troublesome for individuals, but if it were Sun Cheng, he could easily handle the entry and exit procedures for him, allowing him to leave the United States.
However, considering that the CIA's reaction would likely be very swift, he did not arrange for Braxton to evacuate by plane, but instead sent him directly onto a cargo ship at the docks, first sending him to Mexico, and then transferring from there to Brazil.
If not for the consideration that human bodies are too fragile to cross the high skies like him, he would not have gone to such trouble.
And so, after quietly bringing Braxton to the Houston docks and identifying the right one, he quickly selected a freighter about to depart for Mexico.
Immediately, Sun Cheng quickly brought him aboard the freighter, then found an inconspicuous, hidden corner to stay in.
"Alright... Mr. Braxton... you are safe now, and it is time for me to collect my Task reward..."
Sitting down on the freighter with a thud, Sun Cheng, with his Core activated, had just scanned the situation on the ship; knowing the entire freighter's situation like the back of his hand, he naturally would not worry about being discovered.
Braxton, with a somewhat grim expression, followed suit and sat down on the deck with a thud.
After letting his head hang for a while, he was finally heard answering slowly and vexedly: "Damn it... I am truly damned; you bastard has really ruined me this time..."
Sun Cheng watched him with interest, neither responding nor urging him on.
Braxton's reaction when he first saw him had been quite interesting, but only after waiting for dozens of seconds without him continuing did he open his mouth to ask: "... You seem not to be surprised by my existence, Mr. Braxton, which makes me very curious... Time is very plentiful now, and you are also quite safe... So, tell me, where did you learn of my existence..."
Braxton's lips moved, and it was a good while before he was seen vexedly snatching the baseball cap off his head and throwing it on the ground beside him, then finally beginning to tell his story.
It turned out that this guy really had committed an offense because of him.
Sun Cheng had previously sensed that he was a person who would do anything for money, and he had indeed not misjudged him.
As one of the CIA's Senior Agents, not long ago, Braxton learned through an inside source that in order to cope with the U. S. presidential election after the start of the year, there had been personnel adjustments in the CIA's upper echelons, and someone would soon be sent to replace him and take control of the gray income channels from selling drugs for the CIA.
Braxton was naturally unwilling to easily give up this golden goose that laid eggs, but personnel adjustments were far from something his power could influence.
Thus, unwilling to be transferred away, this guy finally thought of Sun Cheng, whom he had once contacted, and prepared to find a new source of wealth for himself.
As a result, after being transferred back to the country to serve, he used his new identity to start inquiring about intelligence regarding the 'NEST Project'.
Under the cover of his convenient identity, and with a single-minded investigation, Braxton actually managed to come into contact with intelligence regarding the 'NEST Project'.
Upon discovering that the 'NEST Project' concerned a U. S. special military unit with a very high security classification, Braxton could not help but become interested, because he discovered that this unit, referred to by insiders as NEST, had never even been heard of by someone like him who served in the middle and upper echelons of U. S. intelligence agencies.
Thus, driven by curiosity, he continued to probe deeper.
As a result, as more and more intelligence about the NEST unit was gathered, people within the CIA began to notice his impropriety.
Finally, when the naturally alert Braxton suddenly discovered one day that his residence had been rummaged through, he suddenly realized that he must have been suspected.
After carefully conducting a few probes and confirming that he was indeed being monitored and investigated by CIA agents, Braxton finally panicked.
He tried to contact his connections, until he alertly sensed someone taking the opportunity to fish for information from him; having been in the CIA for nearly twenty years, even if he were slow, he realized that he had become bait for the CIA. The CIA must have already realized that he had a problem, but they were not in a hurry to arrest him, just wanting him to play his role one last time to fish out the mastermind behind the scenes who had contacted him and inquired about the NEST unit!
"So... is that why you thought to contact me..."
Looking down from above at the bitter and remorseful Braxton, Sun Cheng's face was full of pleasure.
"Hahahaha... hahahaha... good, good, good..."
For an agent like Braxton who is greedy for money and lust, and who abandons righteousness for profit, there is nothing more painful than losing everything.
However, for Sun Cheng, these were nothing.
Staring at Braxton with interest for a good while, he finally determined that this guy might harbor fear toward him, but he had absolutely never shown a shred of it.
He might be insatiably greedy, but he was a bold and reckless person.
Compared to Rivera, Braxton might be a more suitable puppet.
At that moment, the smile on his face grew a bit richer, and even his voice could not help but become a bit gentler.
"Braxton... do you know what the most precious thing in this world is for you humans?"
His sudden question caused Braxton, whose spirit had been somewhat listless, to lift his head.
"The most precious thing?"
Braxton looked at Sun Cheng, his eyes filled with both vexation and doubt, "I... I don't know..."
After answering, he then wore a look of hopelessness and asked indifferently: "So, what is the answer?"
"It is power!"
Sun Cheng extended a finger and tapped it lightly on the deck in front of him, emitting a clanging sound of metal impact.
"For you humans, a life in this world lasts no more than a hundred years, and the family happiness, perfect love, and career success you pursue can all be easily achieved under power... and you have only lost some insignificant things."
"Go to Brazil, I will support you to become the king of this country, and then I will compensate you a thousand times over for what you have lost... In exchange, from today on, sell your soul to me..."
