Chapter 569: The End of the Sea Battle (Please Subscribe)

~7 min read 1,330 words

In the Mariana Trench, the defensive battle that had lasted for over half a month, following the United States government's betrayal and the arrival of more and more Decepticons, had left the Autobots at a disadvantage.

Sideswipe raised his grenade launcher with his left hand and fired a grenade at the Decepticon in front of him, forcing it to retreat a few steps.

He took the opportunity to swing his blade with his right hand, leaping up from the soft seabed, and with a powerful strike, hewed the Decepticon in two.

"Sideswipe..."

Skids shouted shrilly from the side: "We have to retreat; if we don't leave now, it'll be too late!"

The deep, dark depths of the ten-thousand-meter trench did not affect the vision of mechanical warriors like the Autobots and Decepticons in the slightest.

Of course, there was still an impact; after all, at such a deep seabed, the water pressure alone was enough to paralyze most human deep-sea probes.

Regardless of whether they were Autobots or Decepticons, although their bodies could endure it for a time, staying in the ten-thousand-meter deep sea for long periods meant their Sparks were constantly consuming energy to maintain their bodies so they would not be corroded by seawater or damaged by the deep-sea pressure.

Sideswipe snorted coldly; within his line of sight, over forty Decepticons were about to completely surround the section of the trench they were in.

If it weren't for the fact that the enemy had reservations and feared damaging the remains of Megatron, they would have likely been completely surrounded long ago.

"Autobots, prepare to retreat!"

Chromia shouted loudly; as a female Autobot who was no less heroic than any man, she had remained on the front lines ever since her injuries healed, and she had already coordinated with Ironhide, Sideswipe, and the others to repel at least four Decepticon invasions.

But this time, they clearly could not hold on any longer.

Because the U. S. naval fleet had already withdrawn, and the nuclear submarines patrolling the ocean had no idea where they had gone.

Relying solely on the Autobots themselves to face an increasing number of Decepticons was already becoming too much to bear.

"Retreat!"

Ironhide shouted in coordination with her; he had arrived at the Mariana Trench under orders one day ago when Optimus Prime ordered the Autobots to evacuate from Diego Garcia.

As the Decepticon Legion exposed themselves recklessly to the nations of Earth, the situation that the Autobots and the United States government had originally struggled to maintain no longer existed.

Decepticons swarming from the Moon were gathering here at the Mariana Trench.

It was clear they intended to seize the remains of Megatron in order to use the fragments to re-Awaken this former commander of the Decepticon Legion.

Before coming, Ironhide had received approval from Optimus Prime that the Autobots could evacuate from the Mariana Trench and head to Soli in Africa to rendezvous with them.

However, regarding how to handle the remains of Megatron, the upright Optimus Prime had not yet made up his mind.

His order to Ironhide was to take the remains away as intact as possible so that they could be buried in a secluded place later.

Clearly, the severity of the situation on the front lines had exceeded Optimus Prime's imagination.

"Ironhide, we must make a decision as soon as possible!"

Chromia looked at the remains of Megatron not far behind her, her tone anxious.

There were only thirteen Autobots left with combat capability, and they still had ten wounded to protect.

If they followed Optimus Prime's order to set out with Megatron's remains, which weighed dozens of tons, the fate of the Autobots could be imagined.

They clearly could not successfully evacuate from the Mariana Trench under the encirclement of an increasing number of Decepticons.

"Blow it up!"

Sideswipe's cold, stern voice rang out; he kicked away a Decepticon that had tried to ambush Skids, though his left leg was stabbed by the opponent in the process, leaving a long wound.

Ironhide was still hesitating, "The Leader's order is for us to take it away."

He was one of the first batch of Autobots to follow Optimus Prime, and also Optimus Prime's most important lieutenant and confidant.

Ironhide knew Optimus Prime's current awkward position; it had only been a little over a hundred years since Sentinel Prime disappeared, and there were still a large number of die-hard followers of the Prime Dynasty within the Autobots.

Although they had gritted their teeth and acknowledged Optimus Prime's status as Leader after Sentinel Prime passed on the position, it did not mean they truly regarded him as the King of the Autobots.

There was one point even Optimus Prime could not deny: on Cybertron, where the civil war had lasted for millions of years, a considerable number of Autobots wanted a leader like Sentinel Prime—an iron-blooded leader who could treat the Decepticons with cold ruthlessness.

But Optimus Prime's personality was gentler and more humble than his predecessor; he had successfully won the trust of a large group of Autobots and was seen by them as a friend, yet he was viewed as unqualified by a group of hardline young Autobots.

If Ironhide were to blow up Megatron's corpse here, perhaps he could win the favor of some of the young hardline Autobots for Optimus Prime afterward.

But for those Autobots who trusted and followed him because of his humble and gentle qualities, it was unknown what they would think.

Respect for remains was something already branded into the bones of every Autobot.

Skids screamed, having been nearly cut in half at the waist.

"Quick..."

He screamed with his thin, shrill voice: "If we don't leave now, we won't be able to!"

Seeing Ironhide still hesitating, Sideswipe snorted coldly and walked toward Megatron's remains.

Originally, he had been a Decepticon, but due to a difference in philosophy, he had defected to the Autobot camp, and his hatred for the Decepticons was even greater than that of most Autobots.

Megatron, this former commander of the Decepticon Legion, had long been viewed by Sideswipe as the source of all evil.

"I'll blow him up!"

He limped as he rushed toward Megatron's remains; just as Ironhide was about to open his mouth to stop him, Chromia slapped him hard on the arm.

"Captain (Ironhide's most cherished rank), you are the Commander here now... Please take a good look at our brothers around us; because of your hesitation, we have lost two more warriors... Now, Captain... I need you to make up your mind and lead us to a successful retreat!"

When Chromia got angry, she was like a rose with thorns.

She stared straight at Ironhide with a cold face, her tone serious and solemn.

Ironhide followed her finger and happened to see a heroic Autobot warrior being severely wounded by one of three Decepticons while he was distracted by their combined attack.

In an instant, his fiery temper returned.

"All Autobots, listen up: thirty-second countdown, prepare to retreat!"

After a roar, he fumbled from his lower back for two black spheres, each the size of a fist.

"I didn't expect to use you here!"

Those were the High-Explosive Explosives used to detonate the Electromagnetic Bombs that Optimus Prime and the others had obtained at the meeting place after meeting with Frenzy not long ago.

The power of this stuff was not to be underestimated; as a weapons expert, Ironhide had collected all the High-Explosive Explosives together to create these two special bombs.

"Chromia, retreat immediately..." he ordered in a buzzing voice.

After the words fell, he immediately rushed toward Megatron's corpse.

Lia's words completely woke him up; before leaving, Ironhide had already made up his mind to blow up Megatron's remains.
