When Starscream received the report of the battle situation at the Mariana Trench, a look of surprise appeared on his face.
"The Autobots retreated... and they blew up Megatron's chassis before leaving?"
Barricade nodded, his eyes projecting a light screen that displayed the current miserable state of Megatron's remains.
After being blasted by the two High-Explosive Bombs Ironhide left behind, even though Megatron's chassis strength far exceeded that of a Normal Mode Decepticon, it was now a horrific sight.
A large amount of armor plating on the surface of his chassis had been blasted into fragments and scattered everywhere, one arm had been severed, and following the huge wound on his chest, another massive wound had appeared on his back near his abdomen.
From that wound, one could even see the internal structure of his chassis.
Unsurprisingly, this chassis of Megatron's could no longer be used.
"If His Majesty saw what he looks like now, I fear he would be absolutely furious!"
Starscream watched carefully for a good while before saying this in an extremely delighted tone.
This conspirator, who was always preparing to defect and seize the position of commander of the Decepticon Legion, had never been a loyal subject.
"Has the doctor not returned yet?" Starscream asked.
Ever since the doctor went with Surfboard to the human boy Sam in the United States to try and extract the information in his head regarding the Matrix of Leadership, there had been no word from him.
As one of the most skilled Medical Officers within the Decepticon Legion, although the doctor was only a Medical Spider, he still held some status.
The mere fact that he was Megatron's personal physician was enough to make Starscream, who wouldn't feel a shred of pity even if dozens of Decepticons were killed or wounded, ask a few questions.
Barricade shook his head, "I've already asked Surfboard; when he and the doctor were interrogating the human boy, Bumblebee and Fire Truck arrived... Surfboard retreated with injuries, the doctor must have been finished off by the Autobots!"
His eyes shifted, and the scene displayed on the light screen changed instantly; it was the abandoned factory where Surfboard had fought Bumblebee.
On it, the doctor's severed chassis parts even appeared.
"Poor little thing!"
Starscream's sinister laughter rang out, "A normal Medical Spider certainly doesn't have the doctor's skills; go pick a batch, send them to His Majesty, and keep his head intact... then notify Soundwave, His Majesty has slept for too long, it is time for him to wake up!"
The Autobots were hesitant after all; they originally had plenty of time and opportunity to completely destroy Megatron's remains.
They ended up being indecisive until now, wasting all the time he had left for them.
Starscream felt a pang of regret in his heart; he had known long ago that Megatron's remains had been thrown into the Mariana Trench, and the reason he hadn't bothered with him over the past year was to use the humans and Autobots to completely destroy Megatron.
Unfortunately, those 'benevolent' Autobots were stupid enough to disappoint him.
But there was no helping it now that the chance was missed; Megatron's most loyal subordinate, Soundwave, had already been keeping an eye on him, and The Fallen had also started to become dissatisfied with him for failing to bring back information on the Matrix of Leadership.
What Starscream feared most of all was Shockwave, the commander of the Decepticon Legion.
Shockwave was Megatron's most trusted right-hand man and ally; Starscream had already received accurate intelligence from his own men left on the planet Cybertron that Shockwave had led an elite force and departed Cybertron.
Unsurprisingly, he would arrive on Earth before long.
With this individual, who had once suppressed him twice on orders, about to arrive, the frequency of Starscream's little schemes would certainly have to decrease significantly.
Barricade acknowledged the order and was about to go make arrangements.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, he reminded him: "The Cannon Fodder sent to target Frenzy have all been wiped out! The last message sent back indicated that Frenzy didn't even lift a finger; the only ones who attacked were a Decepticon under his command..."
He paused before continuing: "And Scavenger!"
Starscream's eyes narrowed instantly.
After a long while without hearing him speak, Barricade didn't stay there any longer and went out to arrange for the Medical Spiders.
On the other side, within the territory of Soli, Africa.
"Leader, I have failed you!"
Ironhide, covered in wounds, stood before Optimus Prime and said apologetically with his head bowed.
Optimus Prime already knew about the events at the Mariana Trench, and his gaze swept over the nine Autobots who had finally retreated.
After a moment of silence, he also shook his head apologetically: "You don't need to blame yourself, Ironhide. I am the one who should be apologizing to you all!"
"The teacher passed the position of Leader to me, and as the new leader of the Autobots, I have not done well."
"This time, more Autobots should have returned safely, but it was because of my wrong orders!"
"I will submit a report to the Yihui, and I also promise you all that such a thing will not happen a second time."
More than thirty Autobots had died in battle at the Mariana Trench.
Optimus Prime felt an indescribable sense of guilt; these Autobots who followed him to Earth were all followers who trusted and admired him.
It was all because of his order to protect Megatron's remains during the retreat that they suffered such heavy casualties.
Since the end of the civil war, the Autobots had not suffered such heavy casualties in a long time.
Ratchet had already stepped forward with a few Autobots to provide treatment for Ironhide and the others.
"The injuries aren't too serious, but it will consume quite a lot of supplies again..."
Ratchet quickly made a diagnosis, "The batch of supplies provided by Frenzy will only last us for at most another month!"
Initially, when they received these supplies, they were quite happy.
However, with the frequent battles between the Autobots and Decepticons during this period, the rate of supply consumption had exceeded their previous expectations.
Optimus Prime frowned, "I will arrange for someone to transport more supplies over!"
The Decepticon Legion was now appearing on Earth unscrupulously and causing trouble everywhere; the Autobots certainly could not leave Earth in the short term.
Not only could they not leave, but Optimus Prime even needed more Autobots to come to Earth to support them.
Otherwise, relying solely on their current strength, it would be difficult to win this battle for the defense of Earth.
The thought inexplicably popped into his mind, similar to Frenzy, of controlling this human country with its chaotic political situation, and then sending engineering teams to mine and establish an Autobot Base.
Optimus Prime was somewhat tempted, but he forcibly suppressed it.
"Autobots are different from Decepticons; Earth belongs only to the people of Earth, and both we and the Decepticons are merely outsiders who will eventually have to leave!"
He kept telling himself this, but his resolve had already begun to waver.
After a good while, he looked again at Ironhide, who was still blaming himself, and issued an order: "Ironhide, you all stay here to recuperate for now; I will have Ratchet stay behind as well."
"Sam has discovered clues regarding the Matrix of Leadership, and I intend to lead a team myself to search for this holy relic, which is said to be even more miraculous than the AllSpark."
"Prowl, take a team and keep a close watch on the Decepticons in Egypt. I have a very ominous premonition that our enemies may soon launch an operation, and a fierce battle is about to begin!"
