Chapter 711: Mutual Deception (Part II)
Facing the undisguised malice in Starscream's eyes, Prowl felt his sense of crisis intensify.
Although he was confident that this titan of the Decepticon Legion would not make a move against him.
But the other party was a Decepticon after all; those who dared to guarantee they could fathom their thoughts had all gone to meet the Primes by now.
Barricade dragged Bumblebee to the side and stood there silently, saying nothing.
He agreed with Megatron's iron-fisted policy, but at the same time, he also recognized many of Starscream's ideals.
Therefore, strictly speaking, Barricade was both a loyal subordinate of Megatron and a confidant of Starscream.
With his signature sinister smile, Starscream made a gesture of invitation, letting Prowl enter the ship's cabin.
Prowl did not show any hesitation, even though he felt undisguised malice from the other party.
Walking into the cabin, a cold, overbearing voice immediately rang out, "Let me see who the visitor is, our great Prime's Intelligence Chief... So, Lord Chief, have you brought any new edicts from His Majesty the Prime this time?"
The voice originated from the center of the cabin, inside a transparent cylindrical tank resembling a Life Support Device.
It was Prowl's first time seeing Megatron in such a miserable state; only his head remained, connected by countless wires and placed in a tank filled with some kind of special liquid.
Despite having only a head left, Megatron was still Megatron, the overlord and tyrant who once led the Decepticon Legion to conquer cities and lands, driving the arrogant Sentinel Prime and the Autobots to extinction from the planet Cybertron.
Prowl stared at him expressionlessly; at this moment, he represented the Prime Sentinel Prime and could not, nor would he, show weakness.
He spoke calmly, stating Sentinel Prime's demands in an unchanging tone.
Inside the Life Support Device, Megatron, with only his head remaining, wore a ferocious smile on his face.
"So, Optimus Prime has already discovered our great Prime Majesty's grand plan? Starscream, did you leak the secret to the Autobots?"
To the side, Starscream bowed slightly, his face full of sycophantic smiles, "My Majesty, Starscream is your forever loyal servant; I only just learned of the plan between you and Lord Sentinel Prime!"
This was Starscream—insidious and cunning, never taking honor or disgrace to heart; he was a Decepticon with persistent beliefs who lived forever only for his own convictions.
Even though Megatron knew he couldn't believe a single punctuation mark of Starscream's words, he could only let out a cold snort now.
"Has the matter regarding Soundwave been investigated clearly?"
Megatron stared fixedly at Starscream, killing intent flickering in his crimson eyes.
He could guess that Soundwave's sudden demise was, after all, related to Starscream.
However, before Shockwave arrived, although Megatron still had other hidden means to ensure his safety, in his current state, he could not deal with Starscream at all and could only temporarily pretend to be ignorant.
Starscream smiled slightly; with his nasty personality, he just loved seeing Megatron guess the answer yet be unable to do anything about him.
Bowing to offer a salute, this villain, whose bones were filled with betrayal, turned around and sold out his former ally.
"... Some clues have been investigated so far; intelligence shows that before Soundwave's incident, he was investigating the traitors under his command—the spy from the 【Cassette Corps】, Frenzy, and the commander of the Combaticons, Onslaught. We suspect that Onslaught and Frenzy have very likely defected to the Autobots..."
Prowl, standing to the side, was startled and couldn't help but look at Starscream.
As the Intelligence Chief of the Autobots, having been out of the Autobots' sight for the past month or so, his ability to collect intelligence had not declined in the slightest after entering a 'stealth' state.
On the contrary, without constraints, Prowl found it even easier to collect intelligence.
Not long ago, during the encirclement battle against Soundwave and Astrotrain that occurred on Earth, he had been lurking nearby.
Prowl not only watched most of the entire battle process, but he even subtly noticed Starscream, Barricade, and a group of other Decepticons also lurking nearby.
That was why, when reporting to the Prime Sentinel Prime earlier, he was so certain that Starscream was involved in Soundwave's death.
It was just that Prowl clearly underestimated Starscream's scheming and shamelessness; he actually shifted the blame directly onto the Autobots.
Upon hearing the name Frenzy, Megatron inside the Life Support Device immediately flew into a rage.
"Onslaught, hmph, that cowardly fellow... and Frenzy, that damned vermin... how dare they, how dare they betray the Decepticons..."
Easily selling out Onslaught, who was not on good terms with him, Starscream didn't care about Frenzy, who had cooperated with him several times, either.
He was an exquisite egoist; apart from himself and the beliefs he pursued, Starscream did not care about anyone, even Barricade, whom he regarded as a confidant.
Megatron was even angrier than the rage he displayed; now left with only a head, he even wished he could rush to Frenzy's side immediately, use violence to tear his body into pieces bit by bit, and then turn him into his current state, torturing him forever, leaving him unable to live and unable to die.
This was the portrait of a tyrant's anger after being offended!
Back when he was faking his death in the Mariana Trench, a low-born vermin he looked down upon had peeked at a part of his memory.
This matter had always been regarded as a humiliation by Megatron; if he hadn't had to continue faking his death according to his plan with Sentinel Prime, he would have long since disposed of Frenzy.
However, the plan with his mortal enemy—Sentinel Prime—was clearly more important to Megatron.
In the end, he suppressed his rage and patiently continued to stay in the Mariana Trench, as if he were truly dead.
Whether within the Decepticon Legion or the Autobots, very few people knew.
During the second civil war on Cybertron, when the Autobots and Decepticons were still in a stalemate, the leader of the two major factions, Sentinel Prime, had secretly made a deal with Megatron.
The first to propose the deal was Sentinel Prime, who had lost patience with the Autobots; he successfully persuaded the equally ambitious Megatron by using the entire Autobot faction, the planet Cybertron, and several secrets known only to the Prime Dynasty.
This was originally a deal of mutual deception and calculation, but both Megatron and Sentinel Prime knew the other held the intention of killing them; yet, the deal was carried out very well because they could all obtain what they wanted most from it.
According to the deal, Sentinel Prime betrayed the entire Autobot faction.
The intelligence on their fleet transporting supplies was always known to the Decepticons, and every sortie of the Nemesis was accompanied by the destruction of one or even several Autobot ships.
On the battlefield, the Autobots suffered repeated setbacks, and the Decepticons won victory after victory.
