Chapter 767: The Unknown Future
Trindade Island, inside a satellite data receiving station temporarily set up at the Sub-base.
Sun Cheng stayed in the analysis room with a group of Decepticons, watching the data transmitted back by four lunar satellites, which had been optimized frame by frame by Decepticon Workers into a coherent video.
"Did the Autobots really pull it off?"
Swindle was startled; Superion and Devastator had both been committed to the battle—or rather, the war—that had just taken place on the Dark Side of the Moon.
He was even more shocked that the Autobots, under the siege of a massive number of replicated warriors, had managed to rescue the unconscious former Leader, Sentinel Prime, from the spaceship that had crashed on the Moon.
Sun Cheng frowned deeply; he did not rush to express any opinion, but instead turned to look at Firstborn.
"Firstborn, regarding the war that happened on the Moon, what are your opinions and thoughts?"
"Yes, Master!"
Firstborn thought for a moment before slowly speaking, meeting his gaze.
"It's very strange; I have discovered many problems!" His tone was cautious yet filled with doubt.
"Why did the former Leader of the Autobots' spaceship crash on the Dark Side of the Moon so coincidentally?"
"Master, you once said that Starscream came to the Solar System over a hundred years before us. Since the base on the Moon was built by him, and he has spent over a hundred years cultivating thousands of replicated warriors, why would he fail to discover Sentinel Prime, who was sleeping on that crashed Autobot ship just a hundred kilometers away from his own base? This doesn't make sense..."
"Furthermore, when the Autobots were breaking through earlier, why did the Decepticons suddenly stop pursuing them? They held an absolute advantage; they clearly could have caused the Autobots even greater losses."
Firstborn paused, looking at Sun Cheng's furrowed brows: "In summary, the performance of the Decepticons in this war on the Dark Side of the Moon was very strange. It gives me the feeling that they were acting, as if they deliberately wanted the Autobots to find the crashed ship and Sentinel Prime!"
Sun Cheng was quite satisfied with his judgment!
If he hadn't happened to peek into Megatron's memory earlier, and if that part of the Memory Data hadn't contained fragments of his cooperation with Sentinel Prime, he would be just as confused as Firstborn and the others right now.
After all, it is impossible for ordinary Decepticons and Autobots to imagine that the leaders of these two races, who have been at war for millions of years, would one day secretly contact each other and reach some unknown, evil cooperation.
However, although Sun Cheng had vaguely guessed what the Decepticons were planning, he was in no hurry to reveal it.
There was still Swindle here who was not entirely on their side; before Swindle truly pledged his loyalty, it was always right to be on guard.
"What is certain for now is that the Decepticons are definitely up to something behind the scenes... We will strengthen our guard starting soon. After Sentinel Prime returns, it is unclear whether the Autobots will change their attitude toward us. In any case, being careful is never wrong..."
During the Civil War, Sentinel Prime's methods for dealing with Decepticons were no better than how the Autobots treated Decepticons; one could even describe them as 'cold-blooded'.
Sun Cheng had also dealt with Optimus Prime for some time, and he was somewhat worried that this young Autobot Leader would hand over the leadership back to his mentor after Sentinel Prime returned.
Optimus Prime might even hand over the 【Matrix of Leadership】 to Sentinel Prime as well.
If that were to happen, the situation would be dire.
The memory he had glimpsed from Megatron regarding Megatron and Sentinel Prime was incomplete, so Sun Cheng only knew that the supreme leaders of the two opposing factions had reached some secret agreements.
As for what Sentinel Prime wanted to do and what Megatron needed, he could only guess and dared not guarantee accuracy.
Given Sentinel Prime's original hostile nature toward Decepticons, if he were to lead the Autobots again, the tacit understanding Sun Cheng had worked so hard to reach with Optimus Prime would vanish into thin air.
Not to mention, if the 【Matrix of Leadership】 also fell into his hands, Sun Cheng would likely never have the chance to trade for 【Matrix of Leadership】 energy from him again.
That was why he had these concerns.
Thunder, Swindle, and Hailishi were all listening silently on the side; they were either only half-understanding or simply had no interest in analyzing the various possibilities behind the outbreak of the war on the Dark Side of the Moon.
Firstborn, however, was listening and thinking; clearly, after a period of tempering, he had gradually matured into a Quasi-Commander.
Sun Cheng watched the expressions of his subordinates, not revealing a hint of emotion.
Regarding everything that happened on the Dark Side of the Moon not long ago, because of the severe lack of intelligence, let alone Firstborn being unable to analyze it further, even Sun Cheng himself, relying on his foresight, felt a sense of bewilderment.
"Regarding the war on the Dark Side of the Moon, my four guesses can be roughly confirmed for now."
"First, Megatron and Sentinel Prime, the supreme leaders of the two opposing factions, did indeed reach some kind of agreement during the Cybertronian Civil War. Extending this line of thought, the Autobot faction suddenly became very incompetent during the Second Civil War, and their successive defeats on the battlefield might not have been entirely due to an imbalance in strength and technology, but because their supreme commander betrayed the Autobots!"
"Second, Starscream might also have participated in this agreement; at the very least, he should be one of those in the know right now. Chameleon's sudden visit to me was full of malice. If I had been lured into taking action against the Autobots, I fear that once Sentinel Prime was awakened, the Autobots would have mobilized immediately to eliminate me!"
"Third, the Decepticons are likely not genuinely cooperating with Sentinel Prime. In the later stages of the war on the Dark Side of the Moon, the Decepticons didn't even bother to act; it was almost blatantly obvious that they wanted to lead the Autobots to Sentinel Prime's ship. Once Optimus Prime and the Autobots reflect on this later, they should also grow suspicious!"
"Fourth, the Autobots are likely no longer trustworthy. At the very least, until it is confirmed that Optimus Prime still serves as the Autobot Leader, I cannot accept their invitations or take the initiative to approach them!"
After comparing all the collected intelligence with the information he possessed in his mind, Sun Cheng quickly confirmed a few things.
With a soft hum, he quietly moved past the topic.
"Sentinel Prime's return will make the situation on Earth even more complex... To cope with those unknown crises, I will have Atlas and the others concentrate resources first to manufacture the bodies for Firstborn and Thunder within a month."
He looked at Firstborn and Thunder, whose expressions changed drastically as they tried to suppress their joy. His gaze lingered on each of his two subordinates for a moment, finally falling on Firstborn.
"I will personally station myself here at the Black Market for the next period of time. Firstborn, you hand over your duties and return to Base No. 2 to prepare for your New Body!"
