Chapter 867: The Not-So-Pleasant Reunion (Part II)

~7 min read 1,337 words

The reunion between the Autobots and the Americans was clearly not a pleasant one.

The Pentagon soon learned of the Autobots' arrival on the battlefield, and for this reason, many high-ranking officials and hawkish generals who still remembered the Autobots' rampant destruction within the United States clamored to launch a strike against them.

Clearly, the long-term arrogance since the end of the Cold War, coupled with the increasingly rampant "anti-intellectualism" of recent years, had begun to deeply influence the upper echelons of the United States.

However, the Pentagon was not just any ordinary place, and it was not entirely filled with anti-intellectual officials and hawkish generals.

"Just as Optimus Prime said, this wave of strange incoming missiles must have been launched from outer space. Our losses are almost non-existent, but those routed Tombstone soldiers must have been completely wiped out!"

"……Gentlemen, Generals, now is not the time to settle our grudges with the Autobots. Our losses from the previous battle against the Decepticons were already extremely heavy; there is no need to clash with the Autobots at this time!"

"I propose that we continue to send the Air Force to strike the Decepticons who may still remain in the River Valley area, and incidentally, let the Autobots serve as our ground troops."

"It would be best to dispatch a few negotiators to have a proper talk with the Autobots at close range!"

"……I believe it is necessary to re-establish some kind of tacit understanding with the Autobots, even if it is just restoring contact, so that at least when we encounter such things in the future, we can cooperate better with each other!"

"I object!"

"I agree!"

"Seconded!"

With the resolution reached, a transport plane soon carried several U. S. military generals and officials, flying to Sewei'er thousands of kilometers away.

They needed to reach some kind of tacit understanding with the Autobots, such as ensuring that the heavily damaged U. S. military could obtain all the Decepticon corpses after the war and restart the mining of that peculiar ore.

Incidentally, this experience also made a portion of the U. S. leadership realize that they needed to restore contact with the Autobots.

There was no need for the kind of cooperation the previous government had with the Autobots; even if the Tombstone unit was completely wiped out this time, they were still more obedient than during the NEST unit era.

Therefore, what the United States needed was a minimum level of mutual early warning mechanism with the Autobots against the Decepticons.

Of course, they had not forgotten the strange missiles that had fallen from the sky at the end.

Several U. S. military Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft were affected by the missiles, and their flight was also impacted when the missiles exploded.

However, they were eventually controlled to ascend to a higher altitude, avoiding the shockwaves from the missile explosions.

There were not many of the unidentified missiles, only a few dozen.

After the missiles were detonated, the U. S. military's Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft soon returned to the battlefield, clearly filming the scenes in Sewei'er.

According to the assessment of the technical personnel in the rear, they preliminarily concluded that the battlefield was attacked by a type of Temperature Weapon capable of causing the temperature in a certain area to plummet in a short period of time.

Temperature Weapons are no longer a rare thing on Earth.

Ever since the end of World War II, after two Nuclear Warheads were detonated in Japan, the subsequent U. S. forces stationed in Japan seriously evaluated the damage of nuclear bombs by collecting a series of data.

During this process, military researchers proposed the idea of specifically developing a temperature weapon that could strike enemy cities and military targets by instantly releasing thousands of degrees of high heat.

Since then, various countries have been continuing research along this line of thought, and the United States can be considered the Earth nation that has gone the furthest on this path.

Their Sector 7, because of long-term research on Megatron's body, discovered that this sleeping giant had only fallen into a dormant state due to the low temperature of the Arctic.

In order to prevent Megatron from waking up, Sector 7's U. S. scientific researchers developed some cooling equipment to regularly spray Megatron's body, which is why he was able to sleep quietly in the Sector 7 Base for nearly a hundred years without ever waking up.

In the blink of an eye, it has been more than two years since Sector 7 was disbanded. In the past two years, as more and more Sector 7 technical personnel and technology were absorbed by some U. S. arms companies and military research institutions, their technological improvement speed was even much faster than during the Cold War.

Therefore, some U. S. military high-ranking officials did not feel unfamiliar with Temperature Weapons; the only thing they were curious about was, who launched this batch of missiles that suddenly shot toward the Sewei'er area from outer space?

In the River Valley area, after ending the brief exchange with the U. S. military, Optimus Prime gave up continuing to control that U. S. military Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft.

Clearly, his sudden move frightened the U. S. military, so much so that after regaining control of that Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft, the reconnaissance aircraft immediately ascended directly from an altitude of several thousand meters to its flight limit, and quickly flew away from the area.

In its place, a reconnaissance satellite took over the task of continuing to monitor this place.

Although the reconnaissance accuracy and data feedback time of the satellite were much worse than those of the Unmanned Reconnaissance Aircraft, it had the advantage of being safer.

And on the ground, the arrival of the main Autobot force also accelerated the cleanup of the remaining Decepticons.

Somewhere in the River Valley, Blitzwing shattered a layer of ice on his body, his expression incomparably gloomy.

"Temperature Weapon!"

During the missile attack not long ago, he, like the vast majority of the Decepticons, thought that this wave of incoming missiles was still the Tomahawk Cruise Missiles that humans had previously used to strike them.

Tomahawk Cruise Missiles indeed possessed considerable damage to ordinary Decepticons, and even he needed to take evasive action.

However, as long as no missiles exploded near Blitzwing, the shockwaves from the explosions and the potential shrapnel could cause him almost no damage.

It was precisely because of his carelessness that he only found a place to prepare to hide for a moment.

Unexpectedly, when the bombs fell to the ground and were detonated, the surrounding air and temperature changed rapidly.

Powerful as Blitzwing was, he was also affected by the impact caused by the dense bombing of dozens of missiles.

Being too careless, a layer of frost condensed on his body in an instant, followed by icing and freezing.

Although Blitzwing was not located within the explosion radius of any single missile, he was still affected by the drastic drop in the surrounding air temperature, losing control of his body for a full few minutes.

If even he was like this, the situation of his subordinates could be imagined.

Striking his chest heavily with a fist and throwing a large piece of condensed ice far away, Blitzwing immediately shouted in the communication channel: "All Decepticons, report your status to me……"

"Shortround reporting to you, my body is frozen by ice, temporarily unable to move!"

"Commander, this is Boomerang, I and Scalpel are frozen!"

"Damn it, my lord, we discovered Autobots here……"

"This is Dirge, I have broken free from the freezing!"

……

Only a dozen or so Decepticons reported their situation to him, and Blitzwing also learned a very terrible piece of news.

Their mortal enemies—the Autobots, had arrived!

Realizing the dangerous situation of his fellow Decepticons, Blitzwing was indeed a qualified commander.

Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately issued the order.

"All Decepticons, listen to the order, prepare to retreat! We need to contact the Moon to obtain support; this is just the beginning, absolutely not the end!"
