Chapter 869: New Toy

~8 min read 1,414 words

When Blitzwing fled back to the Moon in a sorry state with the dozen or so Decepticons remaining,

they had barely landed when a detestable figure appeared before Blitzwing and the others.

"Lord Commander, welcome back!"

It was Starscream, who stood there at this moment with a look of delight on his face.

Stared at by his crimson electronic eyes, Blitzwing gave a light huff, "Are you looking to see me make a fool of myself, Starscream?"

"Oh, no, no, no!"

Starscream naturally denied it flatly, yet the nauseating smile on that face clearly reflected the true thoughts in its owner's heart.

"I merely received a warning from the patrol, so I wanted to confirm with you, Lord Commander, whether we should still send the reinforcements from our side?"

This question was truly like a knife plunged into Blitzwing's body, making his already unsightly complexion look even worse.

The grievances between him, Dirge, and Starscream could be traced back to the very beginning of the Decepticon Legion's founding, when they had mutually sworn to resist Megatron's tyranny together.

Later, because of Megatron's political maneuvering, a group of 'allies' whose relationships were never solid to begin with became enemies from then on, the kind that would fight to the death!

So, let alone verbal attacks, both Starscream and Blitzwing knew very well that if given the chance, neither of them would miss an opportunity to stab the other in the back.

With a muffled grunt, Blitzwing impatiently pushed aside Starscream, who was blocking his path, and walked toward the Nemesis.

In the previous battle, he had hardly sustained any injuries; only the energy consumption within his Spark was slightly higher.

The Task had failed after all, and Blitzwing knew he needed to go and plead guilty to Megatron.

However, Megatron was currently in need of personnel, and most importantly, they had already uncovered information regarding the Quintessons, so he believed that side would not do anything to him.

Starscream clearly thought of this as well, so he did not continue to pester him.

Blitzwing soon entered the Nemesis ship, into the cabin where the brain of the Decepticon Legion's leader—Megatron—was housed.

He had arrived at an inconvenient time, as a Decepticon was currently reporting work to Megatron.

"My Liege, your New Body is currently 37% complete; please give me another five or six months, and you will be able to leave the Life Support Device!"

The one reporting to Megatron inside the shipyard was a short, slender Decepticon; he had long, thin limbs, and besides the two hands and two feet that normal Decepticons have, two long, strange, thin arms extended from under his ribs on both sides.

This Decepticon was a well-known Medical Officer of the Decepticon Legion camp—Jumpstream.

Although his fame was not as great as Scalpel's, his true ability was not much worse than Scalpel's.

The reason was simple: after Megatron transferred Scalpel away to serve as his personal doctor, Shockwave, who needed to conduct various experiments frequently, poured a massive amount of resources into Jumpstream to cultivate him as a key asset.

Over these past years, Jumpstream had almost always been by Shockwave's side.

It was only until recently that he arrived in the Solar System along with the vanguard force dispatched by Shockwave.

Clearly, Megatron's trust in Jumpstream was far above that of Starscream.

After he arrived, Jumpstream was entrusted by him with the heavy responsibility of manufacturing his New Body.

After Blitzwing entered the cabin, he waited quietly at the entrance.

Once Megatron had finished giving instructions to Jumpstream with satisfaction and told him to withdraw, he then approached the Life Support Device containing Megatron's brain with a look of guilt and whispered: "My Liege, the Task you entrusted to us has failed again! We were besieged by the joint forces of the Autobots, humans, and an unknown faction, suffering heavy losses; we had to abandon the control of the Carbon-based Metal manufactured by those Quintessons!"

The Quintessons' Matter Transformation Technology could convert all known carbon-based life into a special kind of metal.

Because of this, the Cybertronians called all the special metal produced by the Planet Transformation Force of the Quintessons that they encountered on all planets afterward, Carbon-based Metal.

Megatron, who always had a fiery temper, predictably flew into a rage the moment he finished listening to Blitzwing.

"Useless trash!"

Blitzwing lowered his head, his face showing no emotional fluctuation.

Given Megatron's tyrannical personality, in the past, after they failed to complete a task assigned by this supreme leader of the Decepticon Legion, the best outcome was to be beaten up by him.

But now, Megatron only had a brain left, so even if he wanted to beat him up, he could only keep it in his heart.

Therefore, although Blitzwing lowered his head to feign an appearance of not daring to retort, he did not think much of it in his heart.

If the Task failed, it failed; Megatron could not do anything to him, and at most, he would just be scolded.

Clearly, Megatron soon realized this as well, and with a cold huff, he stopped the scolding.

Forcing himself to regain his composure, he earnestly inquired about the reason for the Task's failure.

"... The main force of our air wing was tied down by the humans' aerial power; although their individual combat strength was pathetic, their numbers were extremely vast. Even though we destroyed hundreds of fighter jets, the humans' aircraft only kept increasing..."

"... Later, the energy within our Sparks was consumed to the warning line, and we had to abandon the continued struggle for air superiority with them..."

"... However, the reason that caused us to suffer a great loss and ultimately forced us to choose to retreat was the Autobots who arrived at the battlefield later; it is conservatively estimated that they dispatched at least forty or more high-level Warriors... At that time, we were attacked by a Temperature Difference Bomb fired from outer space by an unknown faction; many Warriors were frozen by the plummeting temperature after the Missile exploded, and then the Autobots arrived at the battlefield..."

Seeing that Megatron had finally stopped scolding, Blitzwing reported everything he had experienced to this tyrant truthfully, point by point.

After a moment of silence in the cabin, he heard Megatron roar loudly again: "Starscream, get over here!"

Megatron's order was transmitted outside through the communication device in the cabin.

Starscream, with a fawning smile, soon arrived in the cabin, kneeling on one leg before the Life Support Device, his head bowed in great respect.

"My master, your most loyal servant has arrived!"

"Put away that disgusting face of yours, Starscream!" Megatron did not buy his posturing at all.

Regarding Starscream, who had rebelled twice and been suppressed by him twice, although Megatron valued his ability and chose to continue employing him, it did not mean he was unaware of Starscream's true nature.

As long as there was an opportunity, Starscream would absolutely not hesitate to stab the most fatal knife into him.

"It is a pity that I still have use for him!"

He suppressed the feeling of disgust that welled up in his heart because of Starscream's fawning.

Megatron coldly issued an order to him: "Notify Shockwave and have his troops speed up. Also, have those humans you have bewitched on Earth investigate where the Temperature Difference Bomb that attacked Blitzwing and the others came from."

Temperature weapons and electromagnetic weapons were far more dangerous to Cybertronians than the vast majority of weapons on Earth.

Having almost confirmed that his greatest threat, his former teacher—The Fallen—had likely died at the hands of the Autobots according to his own plan,

the current Megatron could not help but entertain the idea of conquering Earth.

Therefore, before his New Body was manufactured, it was necessary to figure out, and even eliminate, all possible threats on Earth.

In Starscream's crimson electronic eyes, the light seemed to shine a bit brighter than before.

"As you wish!"

He would not tell Megatron that his own arrangements on Earth had long since been sabotaged by Frenzy, with less than one in ten remaining.

Because that would not affect Starscream reporting the news to Megatron shortly after that the temperature-difference Missile came from the traitor Frenzy.

As for whether the Missile was truly Frenzy's handiwork, Starscream did not care, nor was he concerned.

In any case, conquering Earth was Megatron's ambition, while he, Starscream, had recently acquired a new toy.
