Chapter 92: An Ominous Premonition

~7 min read 1,333 words

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a good while; if not for the fact that he could still hear footsteps, Sun Cheng would have even suspected that Kewen had already left the side of the phone.

He waited patiently for a moment before hearing a voice come through, "You sent this phone over; are you sure it won't be monitored?"

"Don't tell me you didn't find someone to try and take the phone apart! Rest assured, it is very safe!"

Using a phone enhanced by his own spy functions with a built-in anti-monitoring program, the two's communication went directly through one of Yixing Gongsi's high-altitude satellites; Sun Cheng had even specifically snuck into Yixing Gongsi once to steal the highest-level authorization for one of those high-altitude satellites.

It could be said that as long as the user didn't court death themselves, there was absolutely no need to worry about being monitored.

It was unclear whether Kewen had set his mind at ease, but in any case, he didn't dwell on that point anymore and quickly got to the main topic: "Alright, I've already inquired about your matter, but Excellency, we also need to be open and honest. I had the FBI look into it, and you are not some military attaché from Russia!"

This guy was indeed no ordinary character; it was no wonder he could work for Mossad for so many years without ever being exposed, and there was even the possibility of going further.

Kewen was clearly fishing for information, and since Sun Cheng had no intention of exposing his own identity, he refused quite bluntly.

"Being open and honest is fine, but not now. I have already sent the payment; please believe in our strength. Even Mossad is far inferior to us..."

He hinted at it obscurely, and there was no lack of a threatening tone in his words.

The other party returned to silence again, likely wondering which country's intelligence agency Sun Cheng belonged to.

However, this guy was also sensible; knowing that Sun Cheng held his leverage and having already accepted his money, he couldn't get off the ride, so he quickly told him what he had found out.

"Half a month ago, a military base in Las Vegas did indeed suffer an attack by an unknown organism. The White House has confirmed that they are Mechanical Life from beyond the sky. The military may have obtained the corpse of a Mechanical Life, but it is currently unclear where it has been placed..."

Sun Cheng listened carefully as he finished relaying the intelligence he had gathered, but he couldn't help but sneer in his heart.

This guy was truly worthy of being in intelligence; he revealed half and hid half. Not only did he not mention the Autobots at all, but even the two Decepticon bodies captured by the U. S. military had become just one in his report.

Knowing the other party was cunning, Sun Cheng didn't get angry.

After all, the two of them had only just made contact, and the other party was forced onto the boat; he was likely filled with anger toward his threats, so naturally, he was unwilling to work for him. Kewen had value in being cultivated, so Sun Cheng was willing to spend more time and effort on him—there was plenty of time ahead.

However, not being angry didn't mean he wouldn't point it out; the necessary reprimand still had to be given.

At that moment, he let out a low, cold laugh and said, "Kewen, you make me a bit disappointed. This Task can only be considered half-finished, because the intelligence I received indicates that your United States government has recently had contact with those extraterrestrial beings..."

"Excellency, with my status, there isn't much I can come into contact with..."

Kewen's intentions were exposed by him, but there was only a subtle change in his voice, which quickly recovered, and he instead questioned him with some displeasure.

"Don't play games; cooperating with us is absolutely in your best interest."

Sun Cheng laughed coldly, "I want all the intelligence regarding the United States government and the U. S. military's contact with those mechanical beings within a week. As a reward, we would be very happy to manufacture a few traffic accidents for you, so that the relevant Mossad personnel holding your leverage can all go see God!"

These words clearly frightened Kewen. He had cooperated with Mossad for many years; with his status and position, detailed files had likely long been left within the Israeli intelligence agency. It wasn't something that could be cleaned up just by killing a few people.

It was no exaggeration to say that as soon as Sun Cheng made a move, given Mossad's notorious ruthlessness, he would likely be immediately identified by the other side as having defected, and it was hard to say what his end would be.

At that moment, he hurriedly stopped Sun Cheng, his voice even softening, "You must not act recklessly. I understand; I will go and inquire about this matter as soon as possible..."

Having finally made him yield, Sun Cheng didn't care whether this guy was willing or not; in any case, he quickly cut off the call with him.

Then, he switched to another phone and contacted another agent from the NSA (National Security Agency) over whom he also held some leverage. After issuing a new Task to him as well, he hung up the phone with satisfaction.

The situation in the United States recently was very unstable!

There was a sense of oppression, like a storm about to break!

This really wasn't Sun Cheng overthinking it; in fact, in the half-month since the Battle of Las Vegas ended, he had gone out several times to pick up machinery and equipment he had ordered, and each time he could feel that military alerts everywhere were increasing rather than decreasing, and were even still being upgraded.

This inexplicable discovery couldn't help but increase the uneasy premonition in Sun Cheng's heart. Blast Off hadn't contacted him recently, Starscream and the Decepticons under him seemed to have disappeared, and those Autobots were also nowhere to be found.

Because of too many uncertainties, he always felt that something was going to happen.

Sun Cheng trusted this bad premonition of his, which was why he was so impatient to send a pioneer to Brazil to prepare a base far away from the United States for himself; and why he was taking precautions to defect and select people among humans who could provide him with intelligence and other services.

"Should I take the initiative to contact Blast Off?"

Putting the phone back in a corner of the Laboratory, Sun Cheng felt a bit troubled.

After Megatron's sudden appearance and inexplicable death, in his view, Blast Off was the only one on Earth worth winning over and using as an ally at a critical moment.

However, Sun Cheng also knew that his gains in the Battle of Las Vegas were too bountiful.

After constantly trying to absorb the information stored in those four fragments of the AllSpark recently, he had realized that this thing was his greatest gain. Not to mention that these magical fragments were miraculously and automatically recovering energy, the information stored inside was almost enough to allow him to achieve another Evolution one day in the future.

It was hard to say whether Blast Off, who failed to complete a thorough Evolution within the Sector 7 Base, would turn on him once he knew of the existence of the AllSpark fragments.

It was precisely because he couldn't guess his thoughts, and was also very unconfident in his current strength, that Sun Cheng hesitated again and again, finally deciding not to contact Blast Off, and instead threw himself back into digesting the dividends of the Battle of Las Vegas.
