Chapter 970: A Good Show (Part 1)

~8 min read 1,439 words

New York, United Nations Headquarters, inside the International Conference Hall.

The new United States Secretary of State had two miniature toys—a Decepticon and an Autobot, produced by some unknown company—placed on the conference table in front of him.

And today, he would repeat the actions of one of his predecessors from years ago, who had brandished a tube of laundry detergent to launch a grand tirade, continuing to stage a scene of long-arm jurisdiction.

"... One month ago, the Egyptian capital of Cairo was attacked by aliens; large swaths of the city were destroyed, and a great number of Egyptian civilians and military personnel died under the aliens' slaughter!"

As soon as this Secretary of State opened his mouth, he captured the attention of every country in the conference hall.

Although everyone had more or less guessed the United States' objective before the meeting, after all, before the U. S. took the initiative to call for this meeting, its high-level officials—from the President to the Defense Minister and the Secretary of State—had almost all visited various traditional allies to hold multiple rounds of secret talks.

Even though they were closed-door discussions, the one thing humans are worst at controlling is their own mouths; there would always be some wind leaking out.

However, even though the representatives of various countries were mostly prepared in advance, when this new U. S. Secretary of State staged a scene of long-arm jurisdiction yet again during his first time attending a ministerial-level or higher international meeting at the United Nations, dissatisfaction immediately welled up in the hearts of many national representatives.

"Do they still think they are the arrogant and domineering United States of the past?"

Years ago, during that war of calling a deer a horse, a certain U. S. Secretary of State held a tube of laundry detergent and insisted it was a weapon of mass destruction manufactured by a certain Middle Eastern country.

Relying on their peerless military might, the United States rode roughshod over the member states of the United Nations, took a comfortable dump, and even forced the various countries to not dare speak a word of truth.

That was the United States' proudest time, and also the time when other countries felt most aggrieved.

Unfortunately, the present is no longer the past.

The United States is no longer that superpower capable of suppressing the entire world relying solely on military force.

Before he had finished speaking, the representative of a certain anti-American country in the Middle East pressed the button on the conference table in front of him.

The alert sound not only interrupted the U. S. Secretary of State's speech but also drew the attention of the other national representatives in the conference hall.

He, however, did not mind at all; instead, he tested the volume of the microphone in front of him, then spoke in English with a thick Persian accent, quite bluntly: "Sorry, please allow me to take the liberty of interrupting the U. S. representative's speech here. Because regarding his relevant remarks, I have a doubt..."

The new U. S. Secretary of State exchanged a glance with him, and when he saw the undisguised mocking smile on the other's face, he was already cursing furiously in his heart.

But his cultivation as a diplomat still allowed him to suppress the anger in his heart; without a word, he directly and bluntly raised his hand, signaling for the other to continue.

And he was, indeed, curious about what the other wanted to say now.

That Middle Eastern anti-American representative first said thank you, then his tone shifted, and he immediately accused him quite bluntly: "If I remember correctly, Your Excellency should be the U. S. Secretary of State, not the Egyptian representative, right? Then may I ask, Your Excellency, since you are not the Egyptian representative, why are you representing Egypt in making these remarks? Since when did Egyptian affairs become something for you Americans to point fingers at?"

As soon as these words were out, a lot of laughter immediately erupted in the hall, and those whispering and discussing were even more numerous.

There were even many people who cast their gazes toward the Egyptian representative, who was sitting to the side with a face full of embarrassment and dissatisfaction.

His heart was truly a mix of emotions at this moment, indescribably uncomfortable.

Yet, even knowing full well that the Americans were using their brand to bully his motherland, as he was representing the Egyptian government and currently begging for aid in the international community, he could only thicken his skin and pretend he didn't know.

Seeing his cowardly look, the Iranian representative who had just spoken at the UN meeting had an even deeper look of mockery on his face.

As a long-standing enemy in the Middle East, the hatred between Iran and Egypt had been forged since the revolutionary era, which was the reason why the country's representative did not leave Egypt any face at all.

The new U. S. Secretary of State, seeing that the situation was going off-topic because of the Iranian representative's interjection, could not help but frown and tap the table.

"Your Excellency, Cairo is indeed the capital of Egypt, but Egypt, like the United States, is a part of Earth. The main purpose of our meeting today is to call upon all countries to jointly discuss and decide on a method to address the alien threat, not to oppose for the sake of opposing here."

The Iranian representative smiled and did not continue speaking; many people attending the meeting showed smiles on their faces. If one were to talk about the country that had suffered the most losses since aliens appeared on Earth, the United States bore the brunt of it.

As for the other countries, apart from those few European countries that had suddenly assembled a navy to participate in intercepting the aliens before the Cairo Battle, only Egypt had been attacked a few times so far.

Because it did not touch upon their own interests, and everyone could still watch the most annoying United States and the old Europeans get humiliated.

Many countries, especially Third World countries, were all holding an attitude of watching a show, waiting for the Americans to perform.

Although his rhythm was interrupted by the Iranian representative, the U. S. Secretary of State lowered his head to look at the manuscript prepared on the table, and after glancing at it a few times, he quickly regained his train of thought.

He picked up the Decepticon model placed on his conference table and continued: "... Earth belongs to the people of Earth; this is indisputable. But we also need to realize that the threat from other civilizations and races in the universe is already imminent."

"The aliens, they call themselves Cybertronians. One of the races calls itself Decepticon, and the other race calls itself Autobot."

"Whether it is the Decepticons or the Autobots, at least to our Earth, they are the most vicious threats!"

"From the aliens' first attack on the United States' Second Fleet years ago, to the Cairo Battle a month ago, and then to the bloody slaughter that is constantly being staged on the African continent recently."

"I hope that everyone here, and the countries behind you, can realize that the aliens have already launched an invasion and war against our Earth."

"If we do not rise up to fight back, they, those damn robots, the slaughter and destruction currently still happening on the African continent, will also happen in North America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania!"

Many people noticed that he did not mention South America.

And the representatives from several South American countries present were some expressionless, some smiling without a word, and some looking down at their own conference tables, not knowing what they were circling or drawing.

And just at this moment, the new U. S. Secretary of State's gaze swept over them one by one, and finally, his gaze landed on the face of the Russian representative, and he began to attack with a cold sneer.

"I think many people have already noticed that I did not mention South America just now. Because according to our investigation, the aliens have not only launched a series of attacks and slaughters against Africa, but have also long since lurked in many regions and countries on Earth."

"What makes me feel deeply regretful is that some human countries that should have stood with us have willingly degenerated, taking the initiative to cooperate with the aliens and becoming their running dogs."

"They have betrayed us humans!"

As soon as these words were out, there was an uproar in the conference hall.
