Chapter 437
Setting aside a small minority, the private lives of most succubi were fairly chaotic. Every anti-vice crackdown managed to catch a few repeat offenders.
Changing men like changing clothes, group activities, rotten reputations… when men talked about succubi, the impression was usually not a good one.
That said, if given the chance to get a taste for themselves, probably no one would refuse.
And now, for a single classroom to containtwo“disgraces of succubi” really was rather strange.
Ning Chu could clearly feel Zhang Shaoqing’s and Wang Jie’s gazes lingering on her. She had no choice but to endure it, silently praying that Zhang Shaoqing would show some sense and stop trying to reach for her horns.
She lay listlessly on her desk, sniffing hard from time to time, only feeling her body grow more sore and weak, along with an inexplicable chill.
When she exhaled, the warm breath brushed past her philtrum, carrying a faint sense of heat.
Thankfully, this world didn’t have COVID, otherwise she’d really start suspecting she’d tested positive.
“Finally class is over!” Yan Xinya stretched lazily and jumped to her feet, chattering away. “What’s the next class? Lily, let’s go grab something to eat at the cafeteria first?”
Lily rose gracefully, holding down the hem of her skirt, and followed Yan Xinya out of the classroom in a daze.
“Ning Chu?”
Only then did Wen Yang gently nudge the Ning Chu lying on the desk. “Don’t lie there anymore. Class is over.”
“Wen Yang… I don’t feel very well.”
“Not feeling well?”
That pretty, alluring face lifted up. Her beautiful eyes were only half-open now, her expression tinged with weakness. Her cheeks were unusually flushed, and her sickly, worn-down look was pitiful enough to tug at anyone’s heart.
He froze for a moment, then instinctively used the back of his hand to check her forehead. “You’ve got a fever. Earlier it was just a runny nose, right?”
“Mm…” Ning Chu weakly slumped back onto the desk. After sneezing, she muttered, “I feel a bit cold.”
Wen Yang didn’t hesitate. He took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. “I’ll take you to the infirmary.”
“Is that really necessary?”
“Better to get it checked, just in case.”
It was clearly a cold from going out during last night’s heavy rain.
He helped Ning Chu to her feet, carefully fastening the buttons of the coat wrapped around her. “How is it? Still cold?”
“I don’t know~”
Her legs felt weak, so Ning Chu leaned her head against his shoulder, fingers clutching the corner of his clothes.
“What’s wrong? You were so lively just now,” Zhang Shaoqing craned his neck to look over.
“Low-grade fever. I’m taking her to the infirmary.”
“Need a hand?”
“No need.”
Though she really did feel weak all over, a mild fever wasn’t enough to stop her from walking. Still, seeing how worried Wen Yang was, Ning Chu didn’t want to act all energetic either.
And besides, in front of Wen Yang, she truly didn’t want to appear strong.
Comfortably nestled against him, she slowly made her way to the infirmary under his support.
The doctor inside was the same one from last semester. Seeing the tall-and-short pair walk in, he couldn’t help but tease them. “Which time is this now? School just started and you’re already back here.”
Ever since Ning Chu fainted during military training last year, she’d been here several times and every time, it was this same doctor.
He had practically watched the couple go from awkward unfamiliarity, to closeness, to outright affection.
Every visit seemed to mark a new step in their relationship.
“Doctor, she seems to have a fever,” Wen Yang said.
“Here, let’s check her temperature.” The doctor pulled a thermometer from his pen holder and handed it over. “Under the armpit. Hold it steady. I’ll call you when it’s done.”
“Okay.”
Wen Yang lowered his head, unbuttoned the windbreaker and jacket on Ning Chu, and placed the thermometer under her arm.
Ning Chu let him fuss over her obediently, looking frail and docile.
“What symptoms does she have?” the doctor asked.
“Fever, runny nose, nasal congestion. Probably caught a chill from getting rained on last night.”
“Let her speak.”
Only then did Ning Chu lift her head, carefully sensing the condition of her body before continuing, “I don’t have much strength yet, and my throat hurts a bit.”
She could clearly see the teasing look in the doctor’s eyes. Unsure why, she felt awkward and straightened up nervously.
“The thermometer.”
She obediently handed over the thermometer from under her arm.
“There’s nothing serious. I’ll prescribe you some medicine—take it after meals.”
While preparing the medication, the doctor teased Wen Yang, “Such a pretty girlfriend, and you don’t even take good care of her. Letting her get soaked in the rain and fall sick.”
“When I first saw her, she looked like a total tomboy. In just half a year she’s really grown into herself. You’ve struck gold, you know~”
The doctor was a bit of a chatterbox—probably didn’t see many patients on a regular basis and had a lot pent up.
Wen Yang smiled awkwardly and nodded.
Not only had she grown more and more attractive, back then, he’d never imagined she was a succubus either.
By the time they got the medicine, class had already started for nearly ten minutes.
Ning Chu was helped out of the infirmary, muttering complaints under her breath. “That doctor talks way too much…”
Even though she wasn’t the one being teased, as the person involved she still felt embarrassed.
“He didn’t mean any harm,” Wen Yang said. A gust of cold wind hit him, and wearing only a thin sweater, he shivered slightly. Then he suggested, “How about you take the morning off and rest?”
“I want to go sleep in the classroom~ Sleeping there during the day is really comfortable.”
The rain still hadn’t stopped. The air was cold and damp, but wrapped in Wen Yang’s coat and leaning against him, Ning Chu didn’t feel cold at all.
If anything, she felt a little warm.
The two of them strolled back to the classroom, only to find there wasn’t a teacher in sight, just a noisy crowd of students.
Lily had taken out the octopus she carried with her. Inside a transparent cup, the small pink octopus was irresistibly cute, instantly drawing the attention of a bunch of girls.
“Where did you buy this? It’s so cute!”
“Why doesn’t it move much?”
“Can we take it out and play with it?”
Although Lily’s expression remained cool and aloof, the pride in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Hearing footsteps approaching, she turned her head. Her gaze swept past the crowd gathered around the octopus, landing on Ning Chu and Wen Yang walking toward her.
“No,” she said aloud, refusing them as she hurriedly stuffed the cup back into her coat pocket, as if protecting a precious treasure.
“Why is it so lively?” Wen Yang asked curiously.
“Lily has a super cute octopus!”
One of the girls who hadn’t dispersed yet rushed to show off. The sickly Ning Chu immediately perked up, straightened her back, and shot the girl a sharp glare. Instantly, the girls scattered like startled birds, laughing as they ran back to their desks.
“Where did you two go just now?” Yan Xinya asked curiously.
“We went to get some medicine for Ning Chu. She’s sick,” Wen Yang replied.
“Oh~ You didn’t look sick at all with that jealous glare just now~”
Ning Chu’s mouth twitched. Pretending not to hear, she sat down at her desk. “Where’s the teacher? Class should’ve started already, right?”
“No idea…” Yan Xinya glanced down at her phone and happened to receive a message from the counselor. “An An says the teacher has something to do. This class is rescheduled to Saturday morning at eight.”
“They’re only telling us now…” she muttered.
Her gaze drifted toward Lily. She hadn’t expected this girl to like that little octopus so much, enough to carry it around with her.
She also didn’t know whether the black cat had already chosen a magical girl. If not, she might really have to step in personally.
That octopus’s identity needed to be verified as soon as possible, just in case Lily got ambushed by her own pet one day and ended up giving birth to a bunch of octopus-succubus hybrids!
