Chapter 438

~7 min read 1,385 words

“So uncomfortable…”

Lying weakly on the bed in the rental apartment, Ning Chu pitifully tugged at Wen Yang’s clothes. She looked up at him, eyes misty with tears.

Seeing the little succubus’s frail, helpless expression, Wen Yang’s heart clenched. He gently patted her head to comfort her. “I’ll go buy some food in a bit. Eat, take your medicine, sleep it off, and you’ll feel better. I’ll help you ask for leave this afternoon.”

“Just helpingmeask for leave?”

“Then… I’ll take leave too and stay home this afternoon to take care of you?”

Only then did Ning Chu nod in satisfaction. She weakly rested her head on Wen Yang’s thigh and sniffed hard.

Although she really did feel unwell, it wasn’t to the point where she absolutely needed to take time off.

Back when she was still a man, she wouldn’t even bother taking medicine for something this minor. Even if the pills were sitting right on the table, she’d be too lazy to take them, just endure it for a day or two and it’d pass.

She also didn’t like showing such a pitiful side in front of other people.

At times like this, of course she had to act pitiful, cute, and spoiled—trick Wen Yang into taking care of her!

That concerned look and those gentle actions were immensely satisfying to her.

The little succubus whimpered and squirmed on Wen Yang’s thigh. It was clearly just a low-grade fever, yet she acted as if she were on her deathbed.

“Tissue.”

Wen Yang hurriedly pulled out two tissues and handed them to her, but Ning Chu only tilted her head up and scrunched her nose.

“This isn’t low-grade fever, you’re basically paralyzed.”

“My arm muscles hurt~ Oww~ If you don’t like it, I can do it myself.”

He shook his head with a laugh and helped her blow her nose.

“What do you want for lunch?”

“I don’t really have an appetite…”

“You should still eat something. Steak? Get some protein to recover.”

Ning Chu’s appetite instantly returned. She nodded furiously. “Yes! I haven’t had steak in ages! Is it expensive?”

“Takeout should be a bit over forty yuan per portion. One serving for you is enough.”

Wen Yang operated his phone as he spoke. “It’s been raining these days, delivery might be slower. Probably won’t arrive until around twelve.”

“I want cola~”

“No.”

“Cola is good for colds! Haven’t you heard of ginger cola?”

He looked down at Ning Chu, who was trying her hardest to persuade him, and rolled his eyes. “Never heard of it. You’re just craving it. I’ll boil you some hot water.”

He carefully lifted Ning Chu’s head off his thigh and got up to grab the kettle, but soon heard rustling sounds from the bed.

Turning around, he saw the little succubus rolling back and forth on the bed, tail coiled around her waist, throwing a tantrum like an unruly child.

“If I can’t drink cola I’m gonna die~ Gonna die~ Ack!”

Watching her tilt her head and flop face-down on the bed, completely still and playing dead, Wen Yang got annoyed and smacked her perky little butt. “Stop fooling around. You’re sick, why drink cola?”

“Oh~”

It was rare to see Ning Chu so eager to act spoiled.

Usually, even when she did act cute, she was restrained and hesitant. But today she was even deliberately pinching her voice into a soft, girlish tone, shamelessly acting coquettish, so much so that it was both adorable and hilarious.

Wen Yang wondered if a low-grade fever could really mess up someone’s brain this much.

While he was filling the kettle and boiling water, Ning Chu had already climbed out of bed and sat at the head of it, wrapped up tightly in her blanket.

“Wen Yang, I’m thinking of becoming a magical girl.”

“You really did burn your brain, didn’t you?”

“But Xi Xi is there! Two magical girls, can’t they beat one monster?!”

Ning Chu tightened her small face, losing the playful nonsense from before.

“And I seriously suspect that the octopus Lily is keeping is a tentacle monster. If we’re too late, one day Lily’s going to get tentacled in some unspeakable way!”

She paused, then muttered quietly, “Though… she might actually be pretty happy about it…”

That little octopus looked like it had stepped straight out of a 2D anime, way more wholesome than even the tentacle toys Lily kept at home.

Wen Yang frowned and shook his head again. “I said no means no. Don’t use being sick as an excuse to mess around.”

“But the tentacle monsters were somethingIwrote into my novel in the first place…”

“Don’t make yourself sound so important. Your novel and reality just happened to coincide, it’s nothing more than a coincidence.”

With a dark expression, he set the kettle heavily onto the table.Bang.

The sound startled Ning Chu so much that she shrank her neck back instinctively.

It was clear that this idea was definitely not getting approved.

Ning Chu’s thoughts shifted. She looked up with a pitiful expression and cried out, “You yelled at me!”

“I didn’t.” Wen Yang immediately put on a placating smile, leaned over, and sat beside her. “Just focus on getting better. Don’t think about all that nonsense.”

“Hmph!”

Her cheeks puffed out like an angry pufferfish. She crossed her arms and turned her head away, refusing to look at him.

“My bad, my bad. I won’t be mean anymore.”

No wonder some girls could be so delicate and unreasonable~

Just putting on a slightly unhappy face and they’d get coaxed, keep that up long enough and of course you’d get spoiled.

She herself was starting to show signs of being spoiled rotten by Wen Yang.

Thinking this to herself, Ning Chu suddenly acted as if nothing had happened. She dropped her angry expression and leaned comfortably against Wen Yang.

“Did you order the steak?”

“Yeah.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll go downstairs later and grab some fried rice noodles from Shaxian.”

“Eat some steak too. I won’t be able to finish it anyway.”

Suddenly, her lower eyelid twitched. Her body stiffened as she leaned back slightly, nose scrunching upward—then she sneezed hard.

“Ha—choo!”

The violent sneeze made her head wobble. By the time she reacted, a strand of clear snot was hanging under her nose, swaying and threatening to drip onto the blanket.

She panicked and pointed at the bedside table. “Tissues! Tissues!”

Wen Yang hurried over and wiped her nose for her, unable to hold back his laughter. “Your sneezes actually sound kind of cute.”

“Cute my ass~ My eyes are about to tear up.”

Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door. Both of them froze, then heard Xi Xi’s voice from outside.

“Are you home?”

“Yes, what’s up?” Wen Yang got up to open the door, a trace of wariness instantly appearing in his eyes.

She’s not here to trick my succubus into becoming a magical girl, is she?

“Have you seen Little Black?” Xi Xi poked her head inside. “I couldn’t find it anywhere when I woke up this morning.”

Ning Chu sat at the head of the bed. Gone was her earlier spoiled cuteness, she looked much more serious now.

“Is that something every magical girl gets by default?”

Xi Xi shook her head. “Nope~ It’s more like a newbie guide NPC in a game. It stays with the rookie for a while.”

“Then if it left you… does that mean it already contracted with a suitable magical girl?”

She suddenly realized something. “That must be it! No idea which poor girl got scammed by it.”

Wen Yang finally let out a sigh of relief. With the magical girl slot gone, even if Ning Chu wanted to become one, she wouldn’t be able to.

Unless another tentacle monster suddenly fell from the sky.

He glanced out the window.

Ning Chu kept sneezing, clutching a box of tissues in her arms and wiping her nose from time to time, her voice thick with congestion.

“By the way, do magical girls have to contract with succubi? Why was the black cat so interested in me and Lily?”

“Huh? You’re a succubus?!”

Ning Chu: “……”

“No wonder the aura of lust around you is so strong!”
