Chapter 124: 120 Soap Opera Drama, Stay Away from Me

~6 min read 1,080 words

After a week of recovery, Qi Ming sat down in a spot and scrolled through news reports about Tokyo on his phone.

One article caught his attention.

Last night, a man named Songben Sanlang detonated a bomb on a yacht, killing three people and seriously injuring two.

After seeing the suspect’s photo, Qi Ming immediately understood.

Is this the “victim” from Episode 16 of Ultraman Jack, “The Mystery of the Monster Bird Tairokesi,” and Episode 17, “The Monster Bird Tairokesi’s Tokyo Air Raid”?

In the original plot, his childhood sweetheart, who had promised to marry him, fell in love with a rich playboy after arriving in Tokyo.

Enraged, he planned to revenge himself on the couple by detonating explosives during their yacht party with dozens of guests, intending to kill everyone aboard.

But at that moment, a monster named Tairokesi, which despised noise, was drawn to the commotion and attacked the yacht before the bomb could detonate, causing everyone to fall into the sea.

As a result, the bomb failed to kill Songben Sanlang’s targets—only five bystanders were killed by Tairokesi, the same five mentioned in the news.

Notably, although these two episodes are hailed as the “god episodes” of Ultraman Jack, they have little to do with Ultraman Jack himself.

Removing Tairokesi wouldn’t change much; the core could easily be viewed as a prime-time soap opera.

The story mainly revolves around Songben Sanlang, his childhood sweetheart Yukiko, the wealthy heir Yokogawa Hiroshi who won Yukiko’s heart through money, and even adds the tangled romantic entanglement of Go Hidetoshi and Sakata Akiko.

When Qi Ming’s mother watched this episode with him, she enjoyed it immensely, while young Qi Ming felt nauseous the entire time.

One can only say the Ultraman series is vast and all-encompassing—you can watch Ultraman fight monsters while also watching a group of men and women entangled in melodramatic love triangles.

The next moment, the phone in the Victory Team command room rang; Kishida picked it up and said, “Yamada, your fiancée is calling you.”

Yamada shuffled over, shaking his head: “It’s work hours—even if you miss me, you shouldn’t be calling this number.”

After taking the call, his expression grew strange:

“Maya, you say a friend of yours named Yukiko wants to meet me, claiming she saw a monster?”

“Are you sure she didn’t missee something? Could it be hallucinations from overstimulation?”

“You say she’s really pitiful… well, fine, I’ll come over now.”

After hanging up, Qi Ming patted Yamada on the shoulder: “Take care.”

From the phone call, it was clear Yukiko knew Maya, Yamada’s fiancée, in this world and had used her to arrange a meeting with Yamada.

Yamada looked utterly confused.

Qi Ming: “Don’t worry, nothing may happen.”

Yamada isn’t as handsome as Go Hidetoshi—he probably won’t get tangled up.

After telling Go Seidan, Yamada drove Charlotte to the meeting spot he’d arranged with his fiancée and met a woman wearing sunglasses.

“Hello, I’m Yamada Ichiro, Maya’s fiancé.”

“I’m Ono Yukiko.”

“You say you saw a monster, right?”

Yukiko turned her head away, as if unwilling to revisit the memory: “Yes, it attacked the yacht.”

Yamada had roughly learned the details on the way: “The yacht? The one from the news? Wasn’t it destroyed by a man using explosives? The perpetrator has already been caught.”

Yukiko shook her head: “Sanlang’s bomb detonated only after the monster attacked the yacht—the yacht wasn’t destroyed by the bomb.”

Yamada: “He killed three people and seriously injured two, yet now you’re trying to protect this criminal?”

Yukiko: “I don’t know why Sanlang did this, but he didn’t kill anyone! I truly saw it—that dark, disgusting thing coming from the sky…”

At that moment, a well-dressed man walked over and interrupted them:

“What nonsense are you talking? Songben Sanlang did this out of jealousy over our relationship. We announced our engagement, and he went mad with rage, seeking revenge—that’s all his fault.”

“You’re clearly still shaken from yesterday’s attack. Go rest at the villa.”

Maya whispered to Yamada: “He’s Yokogawa Hiroshi, heir to Yokogawa Industries, Yukiko’s fiancé.”

Yamada: “So your friend abandoned her first love because he’s rich? This guy…”

Though Yamada often acted foolishly, he was a true believer in pure love and looked down on such people.

After Yokogawa Hiroshi appeared, Yukiko dared not say anything more in front of him.

“You’re just overly tense and overheated—rest for a while and you’ll feel better. Come on, let’s go.”

After saying goodbye to Yamada and Maya, Yokogawa Hiroshi forcibly dragged Yukiko away.

Maya asked: “Do you think Yukiko was telling the truth?”

Yamada: “It’s been a week since the last monster appeared—about time for one to show up.”

A strangely logical conclusion—very Yamada.

After Yamada reported the news, Nishijo Nagi insisted on treating any anomaly seriously and dispatched Kishida to investigate with him.

On the way, Qi Ming asked: “Did you meet Yukiko?”

Yamada: “I did. Abandoning love for money isn’t new, but it’s still despicable.”

Qi Ming thought: You still underestimate this woman.

This isn’t just about choosing money over love—it’s a top-tier manipulative schemer; calling her “fickle and deceitful” isn’t even an exaggeration.

In the original plot, she couldn’t decide between her new lover and her old flame, and later even found Go Hidetoshi handsome, respectable, and well-employed, and reached out her claws to him too.

She was so ambiguous with Go Hidetoshi—holding his hand tightly—just as Sakata Akiko, who had always loved him, happened to see it.

No, I can’t recall any more—this is giving me a stomachache again.

Meanwhile, Kishida and Yamada met at the scene of last night’s incident.

For some reason, white fluff suddenly began falling from the sky.

Kishida examined the yacht’s wreckage:

“These marks are caused by pressure from above—if the explosion came from a bomb on the hull, the pressure should have been upward.”

“The yacht may really have been attacked by something.”

Yamada brushed off the white fluff from his clothes: “Snow? Doesn’t feel right—how can it snow at forty degrees?”

Qi Ming’s voice came over the comms: “It might be crystalline silk spun by a bird-like monster called Tairokesi for its nest.”

“When this substance mixes with sulfur dioxide in the air, it triggers a chemical reaction, producing a toxic red gas that severely damages human eyes.”

“So be careful—don’t blind yourselves.”

Nishijo Nagi: “You really have this kind of intel too!”
