Chapter 37: 36 Wow, the Bright Light Really Works

~6 min read 1,105 words

“This is...” Kristama stared blankly as she watched several Victory Team members grasp the blue light column in succession, ascending together in an illusionary dissolution.

Since childhood, she had always dreamed the same dream.

A few days ago, a man approached her and, through telepathy, told her it wasn’t a dream—that the distant starry sky in her memory was real.

He said he was her brother, come from their planet to retrieve her.

He said that when they, along with Maya’s mother, had embarked on their interstellar journey as children, an accident forced them to make an emergency landing on Earth.

The life support system malfunctioned, leaving just enough power to send two people back to their planet.

Because a car accident had killed a girl at that time, they decided to temporarily transfer Maya’s consciousness into the body of the deceased Earth girl.

After returning to their planet and repairing the ship, Maya’s mother and brother had planned to come back immediately to fetch her.

But then the Tantan star launched an invasion against their planet; in the war, her mother was killed, her brother fled, and the matter had been delayed until now.

Unexpectedly, the Tantan people had tracked them down to Earth, found both her and her brother, who had taken refuge in human bodies, and sought to exterminate every fugitive.

She was attacked at home and fled, and just as she was about to be caught, a beam of light suddenly descended from the sky, sucking away the Tantan pursuer.

Because she was the one being chased and was a woman, she was not recognized by Abbas and fell outside the range of the pull.

Then several “bystanders” rushed after the light column as if they had no fear of death, making her feel utterly disillusioned.

On the other side, Qi Ming and his three companions entered Abbas’s spaceship one after another.

Kishida: “Damn it, is this the inside of the ship?”

Around them were jagged rocks, like a cave, with wisps of white mist rising, veiling the place in mystery and obscurity.

Yamaguchi: “By the way, what about Kristama?”

Qi Ming: “The alien chasing her was dragged in too—she’s perfectly safe now.”

Here, Qi Ming added: if they encountered any Tantan people later, they could just kill them on the spot.

Nami Nishijo, carefully observing the surroundings, suddenly paled: “No—these aren’t pillars. They’re people!”

The pillars bore carved silhouettes of human faces and protruding limbs.

Clearly, these were the humans Abbas had kidnapped, frozen into statues and “stored” within these pillars.

Qi Ming: “They look like people poured into concrete pillars—I wonder if there’s any way to restore them.”

The next moment, a human-sized figure with wings on its back and a glowing red orb on its face stepped out from behind a pillar.

It was Abbas!

With the target appearing, Nishijo and the other two immediately went on guard, drawing their Victory Hyper Guns.

But Abbas ignored them entirely, fixing his gaze directly on Qi Ming:

“I can sense you’re human—but not one of those ordinary ones.”

“If you’re willing to help us Abbas rule this planet, I’ll spare you from becoming our slave.”

Nishijo and the others froze.

Qi Ming: “Your words are as backwards as Kabuta’s Super Transformation—utterly nonsensical coming from your mouth.”

Nishijo Nami: “Enough talking. Attack!”

She immediately pulled the trigger; a laser shot from her Victory Hyper Gun toward Abbas.

Abbas calmly extended his right [Mechanical Power Arm] and effortlessly blocked it.

Kishida: “What an incredibly tough body!”

He refused to believe it and fired again; this time, Abbas let the shot strike his shoulder without so much as flinching.

“Useless!” Abbas charged forward under their combined fire, delivering a straight punch that sent Yamaguchi flying—he cried out, eyes clenched shut.

Yamaguchi: “Qi Ming, why are you just standing there watching?!”

Kishida: “Use your invincible skills and take him down!”

In his view, though this alien was impervious to bullets, Qi Ming was the one who had smashed open a six-ton door—surely he could match him.

Qi Ming: “No need. Didn’t I bring a treasure?”

With that, he flipped on the flashlight switch—fifty thousand lumens of light burst forth!

In that instant, the light flooded every corner of this bizarre space!

“Ahh!” Abbas, who had not reacted even when struck by Victory Hyper Gun fire, now screamed in deafening agony.

Like a vampire exposed to sunlight, he let out an excruciating cry, losing all strength and ability, desperately fleeing away.

Kishida didn’t hesitate—he immediately put on the sunglasses Qi Ming had just handed him: “It actually works!”

Yamaguchi also pulled out his own sunglasses: “He got lucky!”

Nishijo Nami reacted swiftly: “Quick, follow Qi Ming! Use the bright light to eliminate that alien!”

Qi Ming: “It’s golden flash, baby!”

He pulled out another ultraviolet spotlight and handed it to Nishijo Nami: “Follow me.”

With super-bright light and intense ultraviolet radiation, Abbas felt as if he were facing a miniature sun—his body seemed ready to melt.

Driven by the will to survive, he kept screaming as he ran forward desperately.

“How lively.” In the Victory Team command room, listening to the comm channel, Emi felt a touch of envy.

Inside the ship, Qi Ming’s group charged forward, exploiting the light’s suppression of Abbas, who used his familiarity with the ship’s layout to keep distance.

Abbas has held off the Victory Team for 60 seconds.

Abbas has held off the Victory Team for 120 seconds.

Abbas has held off the Victory Team for 180 seconds, earning the title—Master of Delay.

Yamaguchi: “This guy runs fast!”

Kishida, gasping for breath: “Qi Ming, forget us—just go after him!”

Nishijo Nami: “No. Maintain formation.”

Qi Ming stopped in place: “Too late. He seems to have escaped via some teleportation device.”

Though they didn’t kill him, forcing him to abandon his own spaceship was already a great victory.

“But where are the Tantan people? I didn’t see them,” Qi Ming mused, expecting to take them out easily.

Kishida fiddled for a while, then sighed: “Can’t access the main control room—but at least we can rescue these kidnapped people.”

He pulled out tools and tried to separate the statues fused into the pillars, hoping to restore them to normal.

Qi Ming scanned the surroundings, searching for any hidden Tantan people.

Then a statue on one of the pillars caught his attention—he was stunned.

“So Abbas had already captured other aliens long before today’s Tantan intruders!”
