Chapter 55: Let Heroes Investigate Heroes, Let Brave Men Investigate Brave Men (Request Follows)

~6 min read 1,098 words

“Wait.” Qi Ming quickly realized something and immediately turned off the [See Through] function, restoring his vision before turning around.

Qi Ming casually put the sniper rifle back into the trunk and asked, “What meeting?”

Emi: “Although the two ancient monsters have been dealt with, the shark monster is probably still lurking beneath Kumamoto City.”

“Its defense is so strong, and it even drove off Ultraman. Counselor Kento thinks it will be troublesome, so he’s taking it very seriously.”

The others didn’t know the truth and believed the subterranean shark was a living monster dwelling underground.

This caused great panic among the citizens, who saw it as a “Damocles’ sword” hanging over their heads.

TPC and the Defense Force also promised the citizens that once the monster’s hiding spot was found, they would move immediately to eliminate it.

The door opened, and Qi Ming followed Emi into the command room. Even though he arrived last, Counselor Kento still nodded to him with a friendly smile.

Then Counselor Kento launched into an analysis—shark behavior, how to lure it out of the ground, how to eliminate it faster and more elegantly than the Defense Force—leaving Qi Ming half-asleep.

He could eliminate this menace anytime he truly wished, making Shingo Kibayashi “see his own brain matter.”

Yamada listened intently, nodding frequently, yet still contradicted the counselor: “Can we really? Even Ultraman was driven off.”

Qi Ming spoke up: “Maybe Ultraman just didn’t think it was worth fighting to the death, so he withdrew strategically.”

“After all, Ultraman exists to maintain world peace, not to be a monster-killing machine that slaughters every creature it sees.”

Nagi Nishijo followed Qi Ming’s line of reasoning:

“You mean the arrival of Gorgon and Melba startled this monster.”

“So Ultraman eliminated those two disturbances and assumed everything could return to normal?”

Emi: “From what we’ve seen, the shark didn’t continue destroying the city afterward—it retreated back underground and has been quiet since.”

Counselor Kento: “But we can’t just ignore it. Otherwise, how can we answer to the citizens?”

He suddenly sighed:

“Ultraman’s chest lamp is still blue, meaning he still has ample combat power—yet he withdrew under these circumstances...”

“We really need to understand more about the Light Giant. Only by controlling that unknown power can TPC’s defense be truly unshakable.”

Qi Ming immediately grew alert.

Is it starting? Are you, Counselor Kento, also going to shatter this peace?

In the original plot, Counselor Kento, desperate to control an Ultraman under human command, went to great lengths to uncover Fei Niao’s true identity and imprisoned him to forcibly extract his energy.

Qi Ming had no desire to endure such an experience.

Damn it. I have to fight off alien invaders trying to conquer Earth, while also watching out for my own allies stabbing me in the back—this life is unbearable.

Wait...

At that moment, Qi Ming had a sudden insight.

He cleared his throat and said: “Isn’t Ultraman just a stone statue that came to life inside the pyramid? If we can fully analyze the statue, shouldn’t we be able to replicate it?”

Counselor Kento shook his head: “It’s not that simple. Restoring the statue is a massive undertaking, and we don’t even know if we can fully reconstruct it.”

Qi Ming: “Then just find another intact, undamaged stone statue.”

Counselor Kento smiled: “Such things aren’t just sitting around waiting to be found.”

Qi Ming: “I think Gorgon and Melba may have already found it for us.”

Counselor Kento was startled: “What did you say?”

Qi Ming guided him gently:

“Gorgon and Melba first appeared destroying the pyramid, then reappeared in Kumamoto City.”

“Why didn’t they go to other cities? What do these two places have in common that attracted them?” Counselor Kento understood: “You mean there’s another giant’s statue in Kumamoto City!”

Qi Ming: “I think the likelihood is very high.”

Counselor Kento grew excited, nodding vigorously: “Yes! And the likelihood is very high!”

His expression shifted rapidly as his thoughts turned, and he declared that there was no need for the Victory Team to continue investigating Kumamoto City or the lurking shark—he would assemble a dedicated team for long-term research.

Clearly, he wanted to keep everything under his own control.

Seeing his eagerness, Qi Ming smiled inwardly.

His goal had been achieved.

Rather than face two potential enemies both coveting his power, it was better to subtly guide them into fighting each other and keeping each other in check.

Counselor Kento hurried off, leaving the Victory Team members bewildered.

They had all prepared to drive the Subterranean Pippa Tank like moles, burrowing beneath Kumamoto City to hunt the monster.

Yet after Qi Ming gave Counselor Kento a few hints, it seemed they were no longer needed?

At that moment, Sei Star stood up with a gloomy face: “Qi Ming, come outside with me.”

After Qi Ming followed him out, the others looked puzzled.

Emi: “Why does the captain look so unhappy?”

Kishida: “Nothing’s happened recently, everything’s been going smoothly.”

Yamada: “Should we follow them? I’m afraid if they start arguing, Qi Ming might fly into a rage and break the captain’s other leg too.”

…………………………

In Sei Star’s room, he pulled out his phone and played a video.

On the video, Qi Ming’s transformed Ultraman faced off against the subterranean shark, dodging twice and causing two buildings to collapse.

From the angle, it was clearly filmed by a civilian-operated drone.

Sei Star: “Aren’t you going to explain this?”

Qi Ming looked genuinely surprised: “What’s there to explain? To land an effective attack, you must minimize your own losses.”

These were Nagi Nishijo’s exact words from Ultraman Nexus—when the deputy commander saw Senju Ren’s reckless fighting style, he was stunned, and later told Kado that very thing.

Sei Star’s face grew darker: “Then look at these—can you still remain unmoved?”

He opened the comment section—it was buzzing with activity.

“So irresponsible! Letting the monster destroy the city, then running away—it’s a disgrace!”

“I think it’s fine. The damage was relatively low, and the monster left in the end.”

“You say that lightly—my mortgaged house was right there!”

“If you’re truly a great hero, you should eliminate the monster cleanly and make us feel safe!”

“This Ultraman is nowhere near as good as Ultraseven.”

Qi Ming understood.

Oh, so Ultraseven couldn’t stand seeing his beloved humans suffer, and came to pressure me, is that it?

It seems I need to reiterate my stance.
