Chapter 465: Not Worthy of Sympathy
"Let me think." Bai Muyu nodded. She looked around the bedroom, then her eyes landed on a "Three-Good Student" certificate hanging on the wall.
She was slightly stunned, lost in her memories.
She still remembered that it was the first certificate she had ever received in the first grade; Bai Muyu was different from other children.
Her father's education for her was not that strict. Other children, at a few years old, would have countless trophies and certificates from piano, dance, or even math olympiads.
But what her father gave her was a happy childhood. The drawings she made when she was little, photos of them going to the amusement park together, and even the messy crafts she made—her father would collect them all.
"Is there a problem here?" Chen Yu looked at the certificate in the frame; it had clearly been tampered with.
Those people must have searched here, but they had found nothing. Not just this bedroom, but other parts of the villa had been searched as well.
"I know now, Chen Yu, let's go." Bai Muyu looked as if she had a sudden realization. She pulled Chen Yu and hurried out the door.
The two drove to a small courtyard in the west of the city.
This place was the old residence of Bai Zhan, and Bai Muyu had spent her childhood here.
No one had visited the old residence for a long time, and the courtyard was overgrown with weeds over a person's height. Bai Muyu picked up some tools and cleared all the weeds in the yard.
Chen Yu helped her tidy up the yard. Looking at the refreshed little courtyard, Bai Muyu revealed a hint of a relieved smile.
She stood under the walnut tree in the yard with her eyes closed, feeling the familiar atmosphere of the courtyard; she felt as if she had returned to her childhood.
"This is the place where I grew up, and my father spent my childhood here with me," Bai Muyu murmured. "Everything from my childhood is here."
"So, what did you think of?" Chen Yu looked at Bai Muyu.
"Follow me." Bai Muyu pulled Chen Yu to a room filled with miscellaneous items.
The courtyard looked overgrown with weeds, as if no one had been there for a long time, but this storage room was kept spotlessly clean.
There were many children's toys piled up here, including dolls, a small rocking horse, and a small bicycle.
There was a box that was sealed. Bai Muyu opened the box and saw that it was full of crude drawings and crafts.
Her nose felt sore, and she almost shed tears. These were all things from her childhood; Bai Zhan had carefully preserved every single item. This courtyard and the things in this box carried all the memories of her childhood.
Taking the items out one by one with great care, at the bottom of the storage room, there sat a small USB flash drive.
Bai Muyu picked up the USB drive, feeling a thousand emotions at once.
These things were the greatest wealth her father left to the world, and she held the password to this wealth.
"This USB drive has biometric technology." Chen Yu took the USB drive from her hand and took a look. Although it was small, it contained a lot of black technology. Even if someone else got the drive, they probably wouldn't be able to open it besides Bai Muyu.
"I know, all of my father's life's work is inside this USB drive," Bai Muyu nodded slightly. "The item has been found, let's go."
Carefully packing up the box, Bai Muyu and Chen Yu left the place together.
But just as they stepped outside, a woman appeared in the courtyard.
This woman was none other than Yu Jing. She laughed out loud, "My good daughter, thank you so much. If it weren't for you leading the way, I really wouldn't have been able to find this place."
"Yu Jing, it's you?" Bai Muyu's expression changed drastically. "What are you doing here?"
"Of course, it's for the thing in your hand," Yu Jing giggled. "That old man Bai Zhan, we were husband and wife for over a decade. I thought I had everything of his in my grasp, but I didn't expect him to have such a place hidden from me."
"This is a secret between my father and me; you have no right to know," Bai Muyu said coldly.
"But don't I know it now?" Yu Jing reached out her hand and said, "Hand over what you have."
"Don't even think about it." Bai Muyu took a step back, clutching her bag tightly. This was her father's life's work, and it was her life. Even if she died, she would never let this woman take it away.
"Be good, don't force me to take action." Yu Jing walked forward, smiling, "We've been together for over a decade; it wouldn't be very nice if you forced me to use force."
Suddenly, Chen Yu, who was to the side, moved. He raised his right hand and skillfully slapped her across the face.
*Slap*... Yu Jing let out a miserable scream, spinning several times in mid-air from the force of the blow before landing heavily on the ground.
She felt half of her face go numb and lose all sensation; more than half of her teeth had been knocked out.
She spat out a mouthful of blood, then looked at Chen Yu in shock and anger. "Chen Yu, are you trying to meddle in other people's business?"
"I've wanted to slap you for a long time, really," Chen Yu said helplessly. "It's just that I was held back by appearances before and didn't take action against you. Now that the mask is off, there's nothing left to say."
"Chen Yu, do you know who I am? What gives you the right to be so arrogant?" Yu Jing was almost exploding with rage. Truly, she had lived a life of luxury all these years, and no one had ever defied her.
Yet, Chen Yu had started with a heavy slap, a slap that made her doubt her life.
"Who are you? Aren't you just a lackey for the overseas Jones Technology Group?" Chen Yu said coldly. "You hid deep enough and lurked well enough. For so many years, even Dragon Breath didn't uncover your true identity."
"Since you know my identity, then be sensible. Let that little bitch hand over the item, and then come with me obediently." Yu Jing climbed up and spat out a mouthful of blood.
"On what grounds? Just because of how many times your face has been surgically altered?" Chen Yu glanced at her as if looking at a moron.
"On the grounds that I can take your life. Aren't you coming out yet? How long do you want to watch me make a fool of myself?" Yu Jing turned back and shouted angrily.
A figure flashed, and a blonde, blue-eyed man appeared in the courtyard. This guy was none other than the murderer who killed Bai Zhan, Taige.
"It's you, you killed my father?" Bai Muyu's eyes were practically spitting fire. She glared at Taige with hatred. She had already watched the surveillance footage from after her father's death; it was this man who had killed him.
"Oh, I didn't kill your father. I just wanted him to live in a different way. He was too tired all these years, really," Taige said with an innocent look. "It's a pity he didn't appreciate it."
"You will get your retribution, you definitely will." Bai Muyu's eyes were red. Seeing her father's killer right in front of her, she wished she could tear him to pieces.
"Thanks for your concern, I will live better than anyone else." Taige grinned. "Yu Jing, thank you too. You found the USB drive and Bai Zhan's daughter for Tang En; he will definitely remember your contribution."
"Cackle, then you must do what you promised me. For your sake, I sacrificed my youth, gave myself to an old man, and even endured the cold looks of his daughter. I have truly paid enough."
"Haha, don't worry, Tang En won't forget you." Taige gave a cruel smile, and suddenly, he threw a punch at Yu Jing.
*Thud*—the smile on Yu Jing's face instantly froze...
She looked down in disbelief, only to see a huge hole in her chest; her heart was already in Tang En's hand.
"You, you..." Yu Jing's eyes widened. Her body trembled violently, and she used her last bit of strength to ask, "Why?"
"Because you are too smart. Tang En feels that you will pose a threat to her, so this is the only way." Taige chuckled. "Go in peace; we don't need you anymore."
*Thud*—Yu Jing fell to the ground, her eyes still wide open even in death.
"Not wanting to be a good person and choosing to be a dog instead—who can she blame for ending up like this?" Chen Yu sighed. Honestly, he didn't pity Yu Jing at all; she deserved this.
"You must be Chen Yu?" Taige wiped the blood from his hand and gave a sinister smile. "You are the variable in our plan. Originally, if it weren't for you, this Miss Bai would already be abroad by now."
"Did you kill Bai Doctor?" Chen Yu stared at Taige.
"I didn't want it to be this way either, but he really didn't know what was good for him. Miss Bai, I am truly sorry for harming your father," Taige said, spreading his hands.
