Chapter 954: I'm Afraid of the Cold
Chen Yu gave a bitter smile; Yu Sichen's feelings for him were becoming increasingly dependent, but he truly could not give her too many promises right now, so he could only play dumb.
"Rest early; we have to set off tomorrow morning." Chen Yu smiled slightly.
"Brother Chen, can you stay?" Yu Sichen gathered her courage: "I... am afraid of sleeping alone."
"This..." Chen Yu hesitated; it really wasn't appropriate for a lone man and woman to share a room, but looking at Yu Sichen's expectant eyes, he still nodded and said: "Fine, it makes no difference to me whether I sleep or not anyway. I'll stay to the side and watch you sleep."
"Mm." Yu Sichen's face lit up with joy. She turned off the lights and lay on the bed, while Chen Yu sat to the side, entering Meditation.
"Brother Chen, you can lie on the bed; it's fine, I don't mind." Yu Sichen said tentatively.
"Oh, it's fine, I'm in Meditation anyway." Chen Yu smiled slightly.
"But, I'm cold." Yu Sichen said.
"I'll turn off the air conditioning." Chen Yu took the remote and turned off the air conditioning.
Yu Sichen: "..."
A moment later, Yu Sichen said again: "Brother Chen, lie on the edge; I feel bad otherwise."
Chen Yu was caught between laughter and tears. He thought for a moment, then nodded and lay down on the edge.
He lay right against the edge of the bed; he didn't consider himself some kind of perfect gentleman, and if he really got too close, he couldn't guarantee whether something might happen.
"One half each, you can't cross the line; whoever crosses the line is a beast." Yu Sichen drew a line on the bed.
"I promise not to cross the line." Looking at her wearing pajamas, with her skin faintly visible through the fabric, Chen Yu said with difficulty.
"Mm." Only then did Yu Sichen close her eyes in satisfaction, and a moment later, she fell into a deep sleep.
With Chen Yu by her side, she slept very quietly. Suddenly, she turned over and curled her entire body into Chen Yu's embrace.
Chen Yu's body stiffened, and his heart felt as if a fire were burning. Looking at Yu Sichen, who was still in her dreams, he gave a helpless, bitter smile and closed his eyes.
Nothing happened that night. The next day, Chen Yu drove an off-road vehicle and set off.
The further west they went, the colder the climate became, and the place they were heading to was a deep Mountain Wurenqu; in some places, snow had already begun to drift.
The road was also becoming increasingly difficult to travel; even with this off-road vehicle of quite good performance, it was extremely bumpy.
Chen Yu couldn't help but sigh. Most people lived in places where crowds gathered, with developed transportation and bustling noise, but who would have thought that in this desolate land to the west, there were still vast areas without a trace of human life.
In a blink, it was dark. Just then, a civilian house appeared by the side of the small road. It was a three-story building, and it looked like an inn.
In the shop were the boss and his wife, and besides them, a son who didn't look very bright.
"Boss, further west is the Wurenqu. You are here for adventure and travel, right? Rest at our place for the night and set off tomorrow; further ahead, there really is no trace of human life." Seeing someone enter, the landlady greeted them enthusiastically.
"Then let's rest here for tonight." Chen Yu said: "Do you have food?"
"We do, it's all game caught in the mountains. My husband's cooking is quite good; you should try it." The landlady smiled.
"Alright, then bring out a few of your signature dishes." Chen Yu nodded and said.
"Coming right up, boss, just a moment." The landlady laughed, then turned and went to the back kitchen.
Chen Yu examined the layout of the place. He saw that the house had some years on it, and in some places, the steel bars and concrete were exposed. This place was remote, and all materials had to be transported from outside, so the construction cost must have been quite high.
Just then, that man who didn't look very bright walked over. He was about seventeen or eighteen years old, holding a doll made of grass in his hand, and was using his eyes to dartingly examine Yu Sichen.
Out of politeness, Yu Sichen turned her head and smiled at him. The kid immediately shouted excitedly: "The big sister smiled at me, she smiled at me, hahaha."
Chen Yu's brows locked; this kid was a bit off.
"Huazi, what are you shouting for? Don't scare the guests, get lost and go play somewhere else." A man came over carrying a cooking ladle. He glared, and the kid retreated in fear, then left timidly.
"Sorry about that, you two. This is my son; he had a fever when he was young and it burned his brain." The man was the boss, and he smiled: "Please wait a moment, the food will be ready soon."
Chen Yu nodded, but there was a trace of doubt in his heart.
"Brother Chen, what's wrong?" Yu Sichen was meticulous; seeing Chen Yu's expression was a bit off, she asked.
"That kid just now, it should be epilepsy caused by shock. The boss said it was caused by a fever, so I have some doubts." Chen Yu's brows were slightly locked.
"Then is there something wrong with this place?" Yu Sichen said softly.
"For now, I can't tell, but the landlady and the boss are both normal people." Chen Yu said: "I hope I'm just overthinking it."
Yu Sichen nodded, and from that moment on, she became cautious.
Half an hour later, the food was ready. In the center was a stew of wild mushrooms and wild boar meat, stir-fried wild vegetables, and a large platter of wild boar bone soup, along with some fungi.
There was no problem with the food, and after days of travel, even Chen Yu felt his stomach was empty, so he picked up his chopsticks and began to eat.
The wild boar meat was stewed until it was neither tough nor greasy, and the taste was quite good. Moreover, this wild boar must have been quite large, and the meat tasted substantial.
"Haha, you two, how is the food?" The boss walked over, wiping his sweat.
"Very good, thank you, boss." Chen Yu nodded.
"These vegetables were all picked from the mountains, and the wild boar was caught in a trap I set. It's all natural ingredients; you city people like this." The boss smiled.
"Boss, are there many people traveling from here to the Wurenqu every day?" Chen Yu asked.
"Not many. After all, this isn't the only entrance; the main thing is that the Wurenqu is currently forbidden to enter, so some people enter through other routes." The boss replied: "If you want to travel, you need to be prepared. The temperature difference in that place is too great, and if you aren't careful, there will be danger."
"Alright, I understand, thank you, boss." Chen Yu nodded.
"Eat up, if it's not enough, I have more there. If you need anything, call me anytime. I'll go arrange your room." The boss smiled and turned to leave.
But the moment he turned around, a strange smile appeared on his face. This smile flashed by, so Chen Yu did not notice it.
After finishing the meal, Chen Yu and Yu Sichen went to their room. The electricity here was generated by biogas, and the shop owner assumed the two were a couple, so he arranged one room for them.
"I'm not sure if this place is safe, so we will stay in one room tonight." Chen Yu explained.
