Chapter 366: Violence Everywhere

~7 min read 1,272 words

Late at night, all sounds fell silent.

This chaotic city finally fell into slumber; most households extinguished their lights— even robbery and brawling are physically draining work, requiring rest, to nourish spirit, store sharpness for tomorrow's battles.

Yet, within this silence, a group of shadows moved stealthily along the base of the wall.

One tall and a few short, the leader was none other than Ke Li, who had been easily repelled by Luoer during the day!

His face was covered with a grim malice, and he carried a heavy wooden bucket, within which a viscous liquid sloshed.

A few underlings behind also bore wooden buckets, but their faces showed varying degrees of hesitation and fear.

A short man lowered his voice and said, "Boss Ke Li, is what we're doing really right? These… these oils obtained by killing animals…"

"Will God........."

Ke Li snapped his head around, glared at him viciously, and muttered, "Fool! What are you afraid of? God only forbade eating meat, not killing them, and certainly not using their oil!"

He shook the bucket in his hand, his tone laced with cruel delight:

"Besides, are we using this to eat? We're using it to burn! If you can do it, do it; if not, get lost! I have no room for cowards here, and don't ever think of following me!"

The threat took effect instantly; the few fell silent as cold frogs, daring not to speak further, and forced themselves to follow Ke Li's steps.

They slipped silently to the vicinity of Luoer's residence.

Ahead, the nearby pleasure house still emitted faint clamor, but the activity had shifted indoors, and no one noticed the sneaking figures outside.

A vicious glint flashed in Ke Li's eyes as he gave a signal to his underlings.

Understanding, they stepped forward, raised the oil bucket, ready to splash it onto Luoer's inconspicuous house—

At that very moment!

Without warning, a bizarre gale rose out of nowhere!

The viscous oil that should have been splashed onto walls and doors was violently whirled back by the wind, dousing them head to toe!

Ke Li was stunned by the sudden turn, about to curse—

A more shocking event occurred!

A blazing sunlit tree branch somehow slipped from a window of the adjacent pleasure house, bearing bright sparks, falling precisely among the oil‑soaked crowd!

"Boom—!"

Flames erupted instantly! Like a greedy beast, they devoured the group in an instant!

The oil acted as perfect accelerant, fire tongues surged madly, turning them into wailing fire‑people!

"Ah—!"

"Water! Find water quickly!"

"Extinguish! Put it out now!"

Harsh screams and frantic shouts tore through the night sky.

Ke Li and the others could no longer think of retaliation, their bodies engulfed in flame, stumbling like headless flies toward the nearest water source they recalled.

Splash! Splash!

One after another they plunged into the water, splashing huge sprays.

Yet, to their horror, the flames on their bodies not only failed to extinguish but seemed to burn even in water, clinging stubbornly, scorching flesh and emitting a sizzle!

"Why… why won't it go out?!"

Ke Li thrashed wildly in the water, terror‑stricken as he watched the leaping flames, his desperate wail echoing through the night.

These illogical flames mercilessly devoured their lives.

By the time others were drawn by the commotion, only a few charred skeletons floated on the water's surface.

No one pitied them, nor did anyone feel even a trace of compassion.

Only curses rang out:

"Fuck, who the hell committed suicide here? Are we still going to drink water tomorrow?!"

"Who are these guys?!"

"Hurry and haul them out! Honestly, this makes me not want to sleep!"

"Give them to me, I'll use them as fertilizer............"

Amid the back‑and‑forth curses, the few were hauled out and taken by an old man to be used as fertilizer.

Until a few days later.

Someone noticed that Ke Li and several of his subordinates had vanished, and then realized:

"So it was those guys!"

"Damned bastards!"

Grassland.

"Do you know who has been to Eden Garden?"

Yu Lin and Luoer walked along the newly cut path, and Yu Lin asked.

"Eden Garden?" Luoer's face showed pure yearning, but he shook his head:

"I don't know who has been there," he said, gazing into the distance, his eyes a bit hazy:

"If possible, I'd really like to go once. I've heard it's the most beautiful place in the world, no conflict, no hunger, milk and honey flow there… but only those chosen by God may go."

He withdrew his gaze, shrugged, his tone tinged with self‑mockery: "I think someone like me probably won't be chosen by God."

Yu Lin saw his uncertainty, gave a slight nod, and asked no further.

It seemed that directly inquiring about Eden Garden was futile; the target still had to be locked onto Noah.

The second "Walking with God" person must surely know the location of Eden Garden.

He hadn't ruled out using the "Words Become Law" technique to summon Noah directly, but he sensed a supreme protective aura enveloping Noah, making such shortcuts ineffective.

Nevertheless, Yu Lin was not in a hurry.

He has plenty of time; just take it slow and search.

The two pressed on, and the path beneath their feet gradually became clear, evidently forged by human hands.

When they finally emerged from the dense, towering grass, their view opened up—a cleared clearing at its center housed a fairly sizable settlement.

Around the settlement's perimeter, several guards whose skin was darkened and hair brightened by the scorching sun brandished sharpened spears, their eyes vigilantly scanning the surroundings.

Almost the moment Yu Lin and Luoer stepped out of the grass, they immediately spotted the two unwelcome visitors.

The guards' gazes instantly hardened; two of them brandished their spears and strode forward, the spear tips subtly pointing at them, and barked in heavily accented speech:

"Who are you?! Where do you come from?"

Luoer stepped forward a pace, raised both hands to show they were unarmed, and wore a familiar smile: "Don't be nervous, we're friends! I know Ang; we just came looking for someone."

The name "Ang" seemed to carry weight; upon hearing it, the guards' tense expressions eased slightly, their spears lowered a bit, yet the vigilance in their eyes did not fully fade.

One of them answered gruffly: "Looking for Ang? He went out with people; he's not in the settlement now."

"Come back tomorrow."

Luoer quickly waved a hand: "No, no, no, we're not here to find him."

"May I ask, does your settlement have anyone named Noah?"

"Noah?" The guards exchanged glances, their faces showing bewilderment, clearly having no recollection of the name.

They shook their heads confidently: "No, there's no one called Noah here."

Seeing their expressions seemed sincere, Luoer turned back and shrugged at Yu Lin:

"There's none here; looks like we'll have to try our luck at the next place."

Yu Lin nodded: "Alright."

Saying that, the two turned and left.

Only at the moment they took a step away,

the few guards behind them exchanged glances, and the next instant all raised their spears!

But, as they struck,

Luoer also moved!

In the blink of an eye, he seized all the spears, tossed them to the ground, and a faint mocking voice rang out:

"Even your strongest Ang can't beat me; you? Ha."

He said no more, merely matching Yu Lin's pace.

Only Yu Lin's voice was heard: "A time of violence everywhere..."

"Luoer, I have a piece of advice for you."

"What?"

"You must keep going, persist, remember that."

"Uh, alright, I'll try my best."
