Chapter 367: The Fruit Sent by the Dragon Elder
After visiting two more fruitless tribes, Yu Lin finally saw the outline of another city at the edge of his view.
The city lay in a valley, backed by rolling, lush mountains, and was far larger than the city where Luoer lived.
However, its chaos was clearly greater; even before approaching, a more primitive, savage aura could be felt.
Even the usually relaxed Luoer's face grew solemn; he turned his head to Yu Lin and said, "Be careful, there are many dangerous people in this city."
"My abilities are only so‑so here."
"So let's stay low, avoid trouble, okay?"
Yu Lin's expression remained unchanged, and he nodded, "Hmm."
"Let's go."
The two continued forward, about to cross a dense forest, when a sudden urgent cry for help echoed from deep within the trees:
"Help! Help!"
"Someone, hurry!"
"Don't… you don't come! Please, I beg you!"
It was a terrified woman's frantic scream.
Luoer halted, immediately glanced at Yu Lin and whispered, "Ignore it, we'll go around."
"This cursed place—who knows if it's a trap set to lure people. Let's go."
Yu Lin's gaze had already swept over the source, detecting malicious, greedy auras hidden among the foliage, and he calmly nodded, "I know."
He paused briefly, then asked casually, "How many times has this happened?"
Luoer thought for a moment, curled his lip, and said, "Including this one, it seems like the seventh."
Yu Lin kept walking, as if the cries were deafening him, and suddenly posed a question:
"Luoer, if one day God decides to destroy this world, would you blame Him?"
Luoer heard this and, without hesitation, shook his head, "No, a world like this—if it's gone, it's gone. Nothing to mourn."
Yu Lin pressed on, his gaze casually drifting forward:
"Even if you yourself haven't sinned like others, merely being caught up—would you still share the destruction?"
Luoer shook his head again, pulling a carefree grin as if speaking of something unrelated: "Everything we have now was given by God, wasn't it? If He can give, He can certainly take it back."
"If He wants to take it, then He will," he shrugged:
"As for me, I'm happy to live one day at a time; if that day comes, I won't mind not living."
He shifted tone, looking curiously at Yu Lin, "Enough about me. What about you? If that day truly comes, what would you do?"
Hearing the question, Yu Lin gave a faint smile, "I won't die."
"Why?" Luoer asked instinctively.
"Are you really an angel from Eden Garden?!"
"You'll find out later." Yu Lin didn't elaborate, stepped past him, and headed toward the city gates.
Watching Yu Lin's confident silhouette, Luoer scratched his head, muttering to himself, "What a strange fellow," yet said nothing more.
The two ignored the lingering cries in the forest, passed through the woods, and arrived before the bustling city gates.
It was only at the moment they left.
A shout rang out from the forest:
"Bear! A bear!"
"Run!"
Inside the city, chaos intensified; fights and looting erupted in almost every corner.
At Luoer's strong insistence, Yu Lin put on a hood, hiding his face in shadow.
The two walked side by side through the noisy streets; despite staying low, they still attracted a few hostile glances.
When a few swaggering brutes sneered and provoked, Luoer didn't even let Yu Lin strike; moving like lightning, he delivered a few clean, swift blows that knocked the men to the ground, wailing incessantly.
The scene instantly dampened the intentions of many restless onlookers—this wiry youngster was not to be trifled with, and the silent, hooded figure beside him exuded an even more obscure aura, perhaps a far stronger character!
Thus, the two gained a brief respite, allowing them to move through the city and observe this far larger breeding ground of sin.
Until Luoer rented a two‑story street‑front cottage as a temporary base.
"I'll go ask around for anyone named Noah," Luoer said after stowing simple luggage, speaking to Yu Lin who stood at the window overlooking the city:
"Stay here and don't wander out; this place is far messier than where we came from."
"Hmm." Yu Lin's gaze remained on the chaotic Human World scene outside, replying casually.
Luoer thought a moment and asked, "What would you like to eat? I'll bring something when I return."
"Anything," Yu Lin withdrew his gaze and replied:
"Whatever you eat, I'll eat."
"Alright, just wait." Luoer said no more, turned and went downstairs; soon his figure blended into the bustling street crowd and vanished.
After confirming Luoer had left, Yu Lin's form at the window flickered slightly, as if merging with the air, and he vanished from the spot in an instant.
When Yu Lin reappeared, he was already in a quiet forest on the city's outskirts.
A figure was stealthily perched on a thick branch; seeing him appear, it smoothly flipped and leapt down, muttering, "Finally here."
"Dragon Elder, what do you need from me?" Yu Lin asked, looking at the Dragon Elder.
"Just a small matter," the Dragon Elder chuckled, then mysteriously produced a fruit.
The fruit was pure white and flawless, surrounded by a soft halo, and a rich, strange fragrance instantly spread, invigorating anyone who smelled it.
"Got something good for you, thought of you," the Dragon Elder handed over the fruit, his tone tinged with bragging:
"Come on, try it, it's delicious!"
Yu Lin didn't reach out; his eyes fixed on the fruit, keenly sensing a pure and peculiar holy aura within.
He slightly raised an eyebrow, retorting, "Really?"
"Really! Of course it's real!"
"Tell me honestly, who gave it to you?"
"Huh? This… ahaha…" Dragon Lord's smile froze, he awkwardly scratched his head, realizing he couldn't hide it, and let out a light cough: "Cough."
"You can't be fooled after all! When we were wandering earlier, we ran into a guy who called himself Michael."
"He had a pretty intimidating aura, but his attitude was okay. He said he welcomed us here, then gave us a few of those fruits, and specifically had me give one to you to try."
He paused, then added, trying to highlight his contribution: "Just eat it and that's all!"
"Don't worry, no problem!"
"If it weren't for me, the righteous Dragon Lord, I wouldn't have saved this one for you; it would have already gone into my stomach!"
