Chapter 370: The City Ahead

~6 min read 1,095 words

"Tch, annoying thing."

The giant woman Bei spat, showing no hint of panic on her face, but rather a trace of displeasure at being disturbed.

She didn't even wait for the wolf pack to fully encircle; her massive body surged forward like a cannonball, crashing straight into the wolves!

The next moment, accompanied by a few short cries and the muffled sound of bones shattering, a huge Black Shadow was slammed to the ground—indeed the most hulking Wolf King, its neck bones twisted, lifeless.

Bei lifted the Wolf King's corpse and, as casually as discarding trash, tossed it onto the few wolves that had leapt forward and were now also corpses.

She looked around; wherever her gaze fell, the once ferocious wolves instantly let out fearful whimpers, tucked their tails, dared not step forward, and finally, under the low growl of a temporary alpha wolf, retreated sulkily into the darkness, vanishing.

Having easily dealt with the trouble, Bei casually ripped off the coat stained with wolf blood, took a water bladder from the carriage, wiped the blood spots from her arms and face, and glanced at Luoer, who was likewise splattered with blood and had just hand‑killed several vicious wolves, her tone carrying a hint of approval:

"Hey, Luoer, your strength is indeed impressive."

She sized him up from head to toe: "But you're so short, where does your power come from?"

Luoer wiped the wolf blood from his face, not even glancing at her, too lazy to bother.

He hurried up the slope to a high spot, glanced around, spotted a stream not far off, sprinted to wash the blood off his body, and quickly returned.

Seeing that he ignored her and didn't care, Bei naturally steered the conversation back to Yu Lin, who had been sitting quietly by the fire: "Yu Lin, where are you going? Why won't you get on my carriage?"

Her tone carried a hint of grievance and confusion: "Don't be afraid of me; I'm not like those who love to seize and plunder, I…"

Yu Lin raised his hand, making a "stop" gesture, cutting off her rambling confession: "Hold on a moment."

His tone was calm as he pointed out an obvious fact:

"Don't you think the size gap between us is too great? We're not compatible."

Upon hearing that, Bei was momentarily stunned, then two pink flushes rose quickly on her face, her gaze flickered, and her tone suddenly became coquettish, with an odd shyness: "Oh… you, how did you jump to that kind of thing so quickly…"

She twirled a strand of her hanging hair with her finger, her voice growing softer: "Don't worry, don't worry… I know of a magical river; its water can temporarily enlarge one's size, and then we… oh, so shy…"

She lowered her head, as if she had already sketched in her mind the blueprint of future children and what names they'd bear.

From beside her, Luoer turned to look at Yu Lin, raised a hand and pointed at his own head, silently miming with an exaggerated mouth shape: "This guy… there shouldn't be any trouble here, right?"

Yu Lin gave no response.

But for now, although Bei behaved oddly, she hadn't taken any substantive harmful action; she even helped fend off the wolf pack earlier, so he couldn't simply drive her away, and he could only refuse clearly: "Sorry, I have no such intention."

"Because soon, I will leave this place."

"Later, you will meet someone you truly like."

Being rejected so directly, the pink flush and shyness on Bei's face faded quickly, turning into obvious disappointment; she whispered, "Really… not even a little possibility?"

"Really."

"…Alright then." She nodded, ceased any further entanglement, and silently placed the damp, blood‑stained coat by the fire to dry, saying nothing more.

The atmosphere fell into silence for a moment, broken only by the crackle of the campfire.

A night passed quietly during a brief rest.

At dawn the next day, as the sky was just lightening, Luoer's resentful shout rang out earlier than the birdsong in the forest:

"Hey! Weren't you already rejected?! Then why are you still following us?!"

Bei was already packed up, driving her unicorn carriage, and followed them at a moderate distance.

Facing Luoer's questioning, Bei wore an expression of matter‑of‑fact; she raised a hand and pointed toward the faintly visible road ahead, retorting:

"Do you know what's ahead?"

Luoer looked in the direction she indicated, shook his head: "Don't know."

"I've never traveled this far before."

"That place is Enoch City!" Bei said with a hint of gravity: "It's the most chaotic city on this land! Inside are countless powerful beings; you alone,"

She bluntly pointed at Luoer: "You couldn't protect Yu Lin at all."

Then she puffed out her chest and declared her decision with a thundering voice:

"So, I'm coming along to protect him! Until he safely leaves that city!"

Luoer heard this, his face equally grave:

"Enoch City? Hiss, if that's the case, it's really troublesome…"

This Enoch is not the one who walked with God and was taken by God.

But rather another "Enoch" before him, whose fame is far lesser.

The Enoch who walked with God is a descendant of Seth, the third son of Adam and Eve.

The other is Gai Yin's eldest son.

However, compared to their caution, Yu Lin didn't mind.

Uh… still cares a bit.

He still holds a minor grudge with Gai Yin; if this trip lets him find Noah and also meet Gai Yin,

a little unexpected surprise wouldn't be bad.

Luoer turned his head toward Yu Lin, his tone carrying a final confirmation: "Yu Lin, are you sure you want to go? That place sounds more dangerous than any we've been to before."

Yu Lin nodded, without any hesitation: "Going."

Luoer saw his resolve, steeled himself, and gritted his teeth: "Fine! Then let's go!"

He patted his chest, as if rallying himself and also promising Yu Lin, "I, Luoer, am not just eating your stuff for free! Let's go!"

After speaking, he inhaled deeply, took the first long stride toward Enoch City.

Yu Lin's expression remained unchanged, his steps calm as he followed beside him.

Bei saw them planning to trek on foot, immediately drove her unicorn carriage to catch up, moving alongside the two, her tone urgent with a hint of compromise: "Hey! Are you two serious? Walking to Enoch City?"

She glanced at Yu Lin, then gave Luoer a quick look, adding:

"I've changed my mind! Luoer, you can also get on the carriage!"
