Chapter 493: Finding a Teacher for Basic Foundations
Rod Priest, just a little joke.
Yu Lin looked at Rod's expression, as if struck by lightning and his face ashen, and waved his hand:
"Relax, you're not dead, and this place isn't Hell."
Rod finally caught his breath, clutching his still throbbing chest, and stared at Yu Lin in lingering shock.
This guy… his manner is just too strange!
"Then, back to the main point."
Yu Lin suppressed his smile, looked at Rod, "I saved you and also dealt with that demon; by normal standards, shouldn't you… show some gratitude? Or, is there anything you want to thank me for?"
He spoke with a smiling, easygoing tone, but Rod always felt that the smile hid some ill‑intent.
But the other side was also true; he was indeed rescued, and logically he ought to repay the favor.
Rod steadied himself, suppressed the odd feeling in his heart, and solemnly nodded, "Yes, the life‑saving debt is unforgettable; please tell me, whatever lies within my ability, I will do my utmost to fulfill!"
He even drew a simple Prayer Symbol on his chest: "I swear to the Lord, I will never break my word."
"Very good." Yu Lin snapped his fingers crisply, seeming pleased with Rod's attitude.
He raised his hand, pointing at Jesus, who stood quietly beside them, watching with curiosity.
"My request is simple," Yu Lin said:
"For the coming period, I ask you to be his teacher, instructing him in the methods, knowledge, and so on of Exorcism."
Rod followed Yu Lin's finger, his gaze landing on the little boy who had just displayed astonishing Exorcism ability.
"Teach him?" Rod repeated uncertainly:
"Teach him… Exorcism? And… knowledge and such?"
"Right."
A look of astonishment appeared on Rod's face, even feeling it was absurd: "Me teaching him??"
"He expelled a demon that I couldn't! It's about time he taught me!"
It's like having a child who just learned addition and subtraction teach a mathematics professor calculus—completely backward.
Yu Lin explained, "Don't misunderstand; what he just did… isn't really 'Exorcism'."
"He doesn't know any formal Exorcism Spell, Ritual, or incantation."
"He just… hmm, how to put it, his very existence and spirit are unusually special and powerful, like the sun to a piece of ice."
"When a demon‑possessed person approaches him, they cannot withstand the Essential Power he naturally radiates, and they collapse, fleeing back to Hell; it's a passive, non‑controlled process."
Rod: "........"
Listening to this exceedingly "Versailles" explanation, Rod was momentarily at a loss for words.
You might as well say Jesus used some extremely powerful Exorcism Secret Method, or possessed a mighty Holy Relic.
But now you're telling him that he didn't "use" any method at all, merely because he's so "strong" that demons aren't even qualified to approach, and they simply vanish?
Do you think you're the legendary Holy One, Prophet, or even… Messiah?
That thought flashed by, yet jolted Rod's heart!
Wait... Holy One?
Combining Jesus's extraordinary display with Yu Lin's enigmatic identity…
Rod's gaze toward Jesus instantly became exceedingly complex.
If... if this child truly possesses such inconceivable, almost divine Essential Power, then his future… is boundless!
Becoming a generation's Holy One is not entirely impossible!
Thinking that, Rod's heart couldn't help but blaze.
He knows his talent and limits; becoming a Holy One in this life is hopeless, but serving as a Priest in the Temple, spreading the Law, handling certain affairs is already his utmost.
However... if he could become a Future Saint, or even the enlightening teacher of a greater being...
This honor, this responsibility, this chance that could be recorded in the annals is a once‑in‑a‑millennium opportunity!
It is what any devout Law Teacher and Exorcist dreams of!
After a brief weighing, Rod already reached a decision.
He took a deep breath, quelled his swirling thoughts, and solemnly nodded at Yu Lin:
"Fine! I agree!"
He turned to Jesus, his gaze becoming kind yet stern: "I will impart all I have learned in my life, be it Exorcism Rituals and knowledge, Pharmacology, or any other useful teachings."
"All without reservation, I will pass on to him."
However, after agreeing, Rod still harbored a question.
He looked at Yu Lin again and asked, "Forgive my bluntness."
"From what I've seen, your... abilities and knowledge are far beyond mine, unfathomable."
"Why not teach him yourself, and instead have someone like me... hmm, relatively mediocre?"
He asked very directly, with a hint of self‑mockery.
Regarding his doubt, Yu Lin simply shrugged casually, giving an answer that both relieved and slightly stung Rod:
"The reason is simple: the knowledge I possess is too advanced for him right now."
"You can't start building a house from the roof; you must first lay a solid foundation."
Rod: "........"
Alright, consider him talkative.
But this time he quickly accepted the fact.
Yu Lin was right; different levels mean different teachings.
Being the teacher who solidifies the foundational stage for this potentially great future figure is already a tremendous honor and opportunity.
"I… I understand." Rod nodded, stood up from the chair, stretched his body a bit, found that his injuries had already healed more than half, and was amazed at Yu Lin's methods.
"Then, please allow me to go back and prepare first; I need to organize my Scrolls, Notes, and some Simple Magical Artifacts I might need."
Rod said, "Tomorrow I will arrive again on time, and… I may need to stay here for a while, until he thinks I have nothing left to teach him."
He paused, suddenly recalled a very practical question, looked around the unfamiliar living room, and asked, "By the way, this place… where is it?"
"Nazareth."
"Nazareth?! This… isn't this hundreds of li away?! How long… how long was I unconscious?!"
From the site of the incident to Nazareth hundreds of li away… what exactly happened in between?
Did I lose consciousness for several days? Or… what unimaginable method did the person before me use?
"Not long, anyway today is still today."
Not long? Today is still today?
Rod has experienced so many shocks today, from being easily defeated by a demon, to witnessing Jesus' "passive" Exorcism, to being healed, to crossing space… his nerves have become somewhat numb.
"Then… then what about me now…"
"Would you like me to send you back again?" Yu Lin, understandingly, suggested.
Rod took a deep breath, nodded, and said, "Then… I'll trouble you."
He had already given up trying to understand these supernatural phenomena, choosing to accept.
"No trouble." Yu Lin casually waved his hand.
Rod only felt the scene before his eyes suddenly blur and warp, a slight dizzy sensation coming.
When he steadied his mind again and looked closely, Yu Lin and Jesus in front of him had already vanished.
In their place were familiar stone pillars, murals, and a faint incense scent in the air.
He was standing in the corridor of the side hall of his own Temple.
Sunlight streamed through the high windows, casting shadows on the floor; everything was no different from when he left that morning, as if the thrilling events just now and the instantaneous spatial shift were merely a vivid illusion.
Yet the slight discomfort from the already healed wound, and the crystal‑clear memory in his mind, both reminded him that everything truly happened!
Rod stood in place, stared blankly for a while, then slowly exhaled a long breath, murmuring softly:
"This time… truly lucky."
"But it can also be considered good fortune."
