Chapter 104: Knight of Words
"Viscount Akeman is a Pegasus Knight; his noble mount and his own noble character are renowned far and wide!"
Hearing this, Sinuoli immediately notified the Rangers at the very front of the caravan to redefine their direction toward Sanlak Castle; as a transmigrator, he deeply understood the importance of aerial reconnaissance.
Right now, he was completely in the dark regarding the situation of both enemies and allies; if he had the help of a Pegasus Knight, it would be a very different story.
Before departing, Sinuoli had asked Lord Borok if Huangwu Bao had any Dwarf Helicopter, and unsurprisingly, he received a negative answer.
Faced with the vast number of flying units deployed by the Asrai that were enough to obscure the light of the sun and moon in the sky, the few and insufficiently flexible helicopters would likely have only one chance to take off.
After finishing dinner, the caravan left the Earth Vein Network and headed toward the southern foothills of the Grey Mountains; below the mountains lay the territory of the Duchy of Pala Weng.
After walking for a short while, Sinuoli saw a towering tower in the distance.
"That is Sanlak Castle!" Fatisi Qishi said, mounted on his warhorse.
"The castles of the Duchy of Pala Weng are known for their high towers; in the forest, a sufficiently tall tower allows the lookout to have a wide field of vision!"
Standing on the land of Bretonnia, even though this Questing Knight always claimed that he would never return home until he found the Grail, Sinuoli still felt that he was as at ease as a fish back in water.
"Let me see..." Fatisi Qishi shielded his eyes with his hand and looked into the distance by the moonlight, "Brother Akeman must have raised the tower again; it wasn't this tall originally. This is because most pegasi prefer high places. No, that's not right!" The Knight's voice suddenly became tense.
"What is it, what is it?" Sinuoli tried to straighten up on his Rock Sheep to see further, but the Rock Sheep could not be compared to the tall Half-Elf Warhorse, and his stature could not be compared to the tall Knight; after struggling for a long time, he saw nothing.
"Respected Chosen of the Goddess! That castle is being besieged by Goblins!" several scouting Rangers ran to Sinuoli and reported.
Sinuoli glanced at Fatisi Qishi; he finally understood why this Knight had tried to persuade him to take a detour—it turned out he had anticipated that his friend's territory would be under attack!
"Change formation, keep the merchants and wagons in the back!"
"Combat troops, advance at full speed!"
"Have the artillery crews remove the gun covers and prepare to fire!"
Sinuoli issued several orders in succession; he had no opinion on Fatisi Qishi's little secret, as this likely wasn't the main force of the Night Goblins, because being stuck here would not cut off the connection between Huangwu Bao and Fearless Fort.
If he could train his troops on a detachment of Goblins, incidentally increase his own combat experience and skill points, and gain the help of a Pegasus Knight, it could be called killing two birds with one stone.
"Master Sinuoli, would you like me to take my men for a charge first?" As they spoke, the team moved forward a distance; they entered the woods on the mountainside, and the view was not as open as before.
Fatisi Qishi's words were somewhat anxious; Emma, his mount, seemed to feel its master's thoughts, kicking the ground with its front hooves and snorting white mist from its nostrils.
"Closer, get closer! In the woods, no other cavalry can pick up speed except you! My artillery cannot provide you with cover either!" Sinuoli pacified him; he narrowed his eyes and gripped the Warhammer in his hand.
Under the forced march, the woods ahead gradually thinned out; as Fatisi Qishi took the lead with the Human members to save their kin, Sinuoli saw the shadowy figures of Goblins.
"In the name of the Ancestor Gods, crush these filthy creatures!" Sinuoli let out a roar, spurred his Rock Sheep, and charged out with his Anvil Guard.
Charging out of the woods, Sinuoli surveyed the battlefield from the back of the sheep; he saw Sanlak Castle standing in a valley, facing south and backing north against the Grey Mountains. Sinuoli and his troops crossed over from the eastern ridge, plunging directly into the flank of the Greenskin force.
The Greenskins launched their offensive along the valley; Sinuoli did not find any Orcs, only a large number of Goblins and Night Goblins who were not as tall as Dwarves.
They were driving some makeshift War Machines, attempting to climb Sanlak Castle. Sinuoli saw that the defenders in the castle were still resisting bravely, which put his heart at ease.
"Fellows, let us form up! Make room for our long-range firepower!"
Sinuoli shouted at the top of his lungs. At this moment, the role of Qiangsen-Jian Dun became apparent; this Dwarf, with his innate booming voice, allowed almost the entire battlefield to hear Sinuoli's command.
The Dwarf troops advanced upon hearing the order, deploying in an "eight" shape to protect the flanks of the Human troops who had entered the battlefield first, and to facilitate the subsequent output of long-range firepower.
The timely addition of the Dwarves boosted the morale of the Human adventurers, who had lost the sharp edge of their initial charge and were becoming entangled and bogged down in a bitter fight by the vast number of Goblins.
Fatisi Qishi took the opportunity to turn his horse around with his remaining twenty-some cavalrymen; they drove their mounts back a distance to gain space to pick up speed for another charge.
Before this, he could only wield his greatsword and hold the front, relying on Emma's spirited kicking and dodging to deal with the Goblins' attacks from all directions.
As the Dwarf long-range units stepped onto the battlefield, the "Bang!" "Bang!" of gunfire and the "Swish!" "Swish!" of crossbows rang out one after another.
Because the mountain road was narrow, the caravan had set up in a long, snake-like formation; the gunners and crossbowmen could not enter the battlefield to fire in unison, so they first conducted a round of free fire.
Under the cover of over a hundred long-range weapons, Fatisi Qishi and his subordinates launched another charge.
The Goblins were only tall enough to reach the knee joints of the tall warhorses; the warhorses, along with the Knights on them, sent the group of Goblins who tried to face the impact head-on flying into the sky!
The Goblins' originally weak flank collapsed; these short and cowardly fellows were not even as resilient as Orc Boys, and they could almost only fight when things were going their way! As for holding the line against the wind? Don't even think about it!
"Brothers in the front, continue to advance!"
"Buluokesen! Adjust the artillery position for me! Hit these little devils hard!"
Sinuoli saw that the vanguard's attack was going smoothly, and then issued further instructions.
"Go back! You little brats, all of you get back!" A Night Goblin leader equipped with a sword and shield ran back from under the city wall, shouting as he tried to stabilize the situation on the flank.
