Chapter 115: Snorri's Strategy (Part II)

~6 min read 1,184 words

Having heard Snorri finish explaining the first and second routes but still not having his own mission, the Manticore Slayer Rogov could not sit still. He downed the beer in front of him in one gulp.

"In the name of Grimnir, you aren't planning to have us death-seekers bring up the rear, are you? If so, I can only say I cannot comply..."

Rogov spoke up angrily, but Snorri interrupted him: "You and your men will take the third route with me; this will be the most important mission!"

"I myself, Snorri Thorsson, will take the remaining clansmen and detour to block the Earth Vein Network leading west to Kalake-Zifulin," Snorri said calmly.

"What does this mean? Are you not staying here at Fearless Fort to command the battle?" asked Fatisi Qishi.

"Yes, Captain Gelunsen will be my plenipotentiary representative for the convoy route!" Snorri answered the Knight's question and continued.

"Everyone, imagine this: our enemies, those Black Dwarfs, are under attack from the east and south, and to their north are the walls of Karak-Azgalaz. So, what will they do?" Snorri did not say it directly, but instead threw out a question.

"They will break out to the west! Then we can intercept them and slaughter them on the spot!" Rogov was very excited.

"Yes, Skarsnik should not be capable of the foolishness his kin committed in front of Sanlak Castle, especially since that small town was located at the bottom of a valley where they had nowhere to retreat!"

Fatisi Qishi frowned; his lips moved, but he ultimately did not speak. Snorri probably knew what this experienced veteran was worried about, but the situation on the battlefield changes in an instant; even the most outstanding commander cannot account for everything. Let the rest be left to the warhammers and sharp swords in their hands!

"In principle, I should not interfere with your decision, but the oath my team and I took before the High King is to be responsible to you alone!" As the other attendees were about to rise and leave to convey orders, Captain Gelunsen stroked his beard and spoke.

"Buerjin is a strong warrior and an excellent commander; his title 'Heavy Axe' is spread throughout the southern Qunshan."

"You flatter me!" Although Buerjin said humble words, his puffed-out chest and belly posture had nothing to do with humility.

"The god Grimnir teaches his children that an army is best not having two commanders! That will only make orders chaotic, even if they are true brothers," Captain Gelunsen lit his pipe to give Snorri an on-the-spot lesson; after all, he was advanced in years and his spirit was not as vigorous.

"Therefore, I think it is enough to leave the convoy entirely to him, and my team and I will go with you to block that Skars-whatever!"

Snorri nodded; this was indeed his oversight. "Then, those who will go with me to execute the interception mission are my Anvil Guard, the Eternal Hammer guard, and I will also take ten Hammer Guard, ten Irondrake, all the Slayers, plus twenty Rangers!"

Snorri pointed out the troops he needed; he was taking only elites, hoping to use a swift and fierce attack to melt Skarsnik on the spot the moment they met.

At the same time, if the battle situation on the other two routes was not as expected, he and the hundred or so Dwarfs around him could also serve as a reserve force for subsequent attacks.

"Go back and rest! Tomorrow at dawn, our route will set off!" Snorri said to Captain Gelunsen and the Slayer Rogov. Looking at the map, they had to detour more than an hour longer than the convoy.

As the Dwarfs went to sleep one after another, preparing for tomorrow's great battle, the fighting beneath the walls of Karak-Azgalaz was in full swing.

"It makes me mad, it makes me mad! These useless scraps!" Skarsnik paced anxiously under a battle banner with his staff.

On this battle banner, a malicious, squinting, crescent-shaped yellow face was painted in the style of the Greenskins. It was called the Bad Moon Banner, a legacy treasure of the Evil Moon Clan that occupied Karak Eight Peaks.

Under the joint infiltration of the rich Waaagh Energy of successive Goblin leaders and the I Reckon Power, it possessed a strange, great power that made the surrounding Goblins incomparably fierce and violent. Skarsnik had snatched it after feeding Snotruk to Gobla and annexing the Back-Stabber tribe.

"I reckon, although I arranged for the boys to ambush the Dwarf messenger asking for help, it's been so many days, the Dwarfs and those human things in the surrounding settlements should have sensed something wrong!"

Skarsnik seemed to be talking to himself, or perhaps conveying instructions to the few subordinates beside him, or perhaps, wanting to report something to Mork among the Great Green.

"Tell me! Laoyueya, why can't my boys get in? Why can't I stick the moon flag on the Dwarf throne yet!" He turned around abruptly, glaring with red eyes at the Night Goblin shaman on his left.

"Respected Boss, I, I reckon these boys newly grown from the ground aren't big enough, nor cunning enough... they haven't learned how to dodge the Dwarfs' bangs, nor are they good at sticking their choppas into the seams of their shells!" the Night Goblin shaman explained in a low voice, somewhat fearfully.

"Mozhetian, get the flag up for me!" Skarsnik pounded the base of his staff on the ground. He spoke to a strong Night Goblin beside him who was half a head taller than the surrounding kin and could even compare to a skinny Orc Boy.

"Lead my personal guard and charge once! You are bigger, stronger! I want to see results; go cut those Dwarfs in the iron shells for me!"

The tall Goblin agreed, and soon it gathered a group of bigger, darker-skinned Night Goblins. Their equipment was no longer broken scraps; at least they were complete gear. These boys were elites who had followed Skarsnik all the way from the Badlands.

Following the "Waaagh!" battle cries and "Gaga!" strange laughter that rose one after another, the Night Goblin personal guards carried ladders and launched a new round of charges toward the walls of Fearless Fort under the cover of the bangs.

"Boss, we, we can't break the Dwarfs' gate! That place is built too sturdily!" After a moment, Mozhetian ran back in front of Skarsnik, with several crossbow bolts stuck in its back.

"Get lost, next time you're this useless, wait to get cut!" Skarsnik controlled his anger with his own wisdom; it swung its staff and poked Mozhetian's thigh to signal it to get lost quickly.

"Laoyueya! That big boy I sent out to find Ogre Mercenaries, the one who just popped up, is there any news back?"

Skarsnik had dealt with Ogre Mercenaries when he was looting everywhere with the Wolf Rider tribe; he knew how much strength these guys, who were even stronger and more massive than the biggest and greenest Orc Big 'Uns, possessed.
