Chapter 122: Mobilization and Interception

~7 min read 1,247 words

Immediately following this, before Snorri had time to catch his breath from using his skill, he saw a scene that was enough to make him grind his full set of steel teeth to dust—

It was a group of Night Goblin Fanatics; although they looked slightly more robust than their peers nearby, this was insignificant compared to another feature.

They were not tying flails to the iron chains; instead, they were using living Dwarfs tied to those evil chains as a substitute!

These poor Dwarfs had either fallen into traps or been captured after being wounded by weapons coated in unknown toxins by the Night Goblins; in any case, they appeared on the battlefield in such a tragic manner.

"Eight, Peaks, Mountain, Madmen!" Snorri spat out these words syllable by syllable in the most furious and murderous voice he had used since his transmigration.

Eight Peaks Mountain Madmen were a unique creation of Skarsnik. To realize Skarsnik's will, these despicable Goblins would stop at nothing to secure victory! If conditions permitted, they would switch to different "iron balls" when facing different races.

Although at this point in time, Skarsnik had not yet occupied the upper levels of Eight Peaks Mountain, and they were therefore not called by this name, no one was in the mood to care whether Snorri's words had any loopholes.

Every Dwarf beside Snorri felt their chest filled with endless rage; two Eternal Hammer Guards even began to pull hard on their own beards! No Son of the Mountains could accept the sight of what was happening before them!

"Aaaaaah!" A Dwarf Ranger was beyond furious; he threw down the crossbow in his hands, unslung his two-handed Battle Axe from his back, and charged straight up, but he was shot down by a volley of arrows amidst the cackling of the Night Goblins before he had run many steps.

"Grimnir above!" Captain Gelunsen called out the name of the God of War, forcing himself to press the head of his Warhammer into the ground to try to curb his impulse to charge up.

Those crazed Fanatics would not leave much time for the Dwarfs to brew their rage; they began to spin, and those poor clansmen, who were already delirious from hunger or toxins, let out intermittent groans of "Ugh..." and "Argh..." stimulated by the friction against the ground.

"The Ancestor Goddess bless you! My clansmen! These damned Night Goblins, damn them!" Snorri understood that he could not let these future Eight Peaks Mountain Madmen accelerate safely and then use the bodies of his captured clansmen to tear through the thin, hard-won defensive line of the three-race coalition.

"I, Snorri Thorsson, swear here in the name of the Mother Goddess, this great and deep Grudge shall be settled!"

Saying this, Snorri gripped the ring on his left hand and gave it a light wipe; a massive Rune fireball appeared. "Fire at will!" Accompanied by a sorrowful voice, he closed his eyes and threw the fireball forward, and two Fanatics were burned to charcoal.

The Peasant Archers were also shocked by the atrocities of this group of Night Goblins, but fortunately for them, the pain had not yet reached them personally, so they reacted quite quickly, and soon volleys of fire arrows fell into the ranks of the Night Goblins.

The Night Goblins that had not consumed Madcap Mushrooms hopped around to avoid the flames that caused them physiological aversion, while those that had eaten the mushrooms, with blue veins bulging on their faces and eyes red enough to drip blood, had already fallen into madness and were no longer disturbed.

"Human whelps, move aside!" Captain Gelunsen used his Warhammer to push aside the Human shield wall in front of him. He and several other Eternal Hammer Guards gripped the middle of their long hammers, spinning them like windmills to deflect arrows while striding toward the remaining four Night Goblin Madmen.

The weak shooting of these Night Goblins could not be compared at all to the shooting from the sky by the Wood Elves encountered at Karak-Norn; they could not disturb these powerful Dwarf warriors in the slightest!

Watching the Eternal Hammer Guards and the spinning, profane creatures of the Night Goblins about to collide in the middle of the mountain road, everyone present held their breath.

These experienced Longbeards either rolled or jumped to let the first rotation of the iron chains pass, and then, when the chains were stretched to their straightest by centrifugal force, they swung their hammers hard to smash onto the chains. With a flash of light from the Rune on the hammerhead, the crudely made iron chains of the Goblins shattered at the sound!

The heavy-armored and sufficiently strong Eternal Hammer Guards were also pushed back a few steps by the powerful reaction force, and the frail Night Goblin Madmen were sent flying directly!

"My goodness!" The young Maldini was shocked.

"What strength and skill!" Fatisi Qishi praised from his horse. Along the way, he had long understood that the ten taciturn Dwarfs around Snorri were quite extraordinary, but this was the first time he had seen their true strength.

"Forgive me, my poor clansmen!" Captain Gelunsen and his team did not show any satisfaction with their brilliant performance.

Looking at those clansmen who had been dragged and spun all the way by the Madmen, now reduced to a bloody mess, these powerful warriors could only pray to the Mother Goddess, hoping that she could redeem their souls.

The Night Goblins were also shocked by the strength displayed by the Dwarfs when they broke the attack of the Eight Peaks Mountain Madmen; they hesitated for a moment before launching their attack under the urging of the bosses behind them.

Snorri used the time it took for the previous two waves of Fanatics to appear to command his coalition to push back a bit and set up a formation at the narrowest part of the mountain road.

The Ogres formed a wall of flesh, the infantry Humans filled the gaps between them, the archers fired in a parabolic arc from the rear, and the knights sat on their horses as a reserve force for any unforeseen needs.

Due to their movement speed, the Night Goblins arrived at the battlefield first. They launched a charge against the defensive line under the cover of a Shaman's Xiao Waaagh spell. Because the terrain was narrow, their numerical advantage was difficult to deploy.

The unique resistance of the Ogres made them less affected by the primitive toxins of the Night Goblins; several minutes of high-frequency impact only caused two Ogres to retreat due to injuries, having almost no major impact on the entire defensive line.

At this juncture, a dozen Trolls were driven toward the front line. They were well-matched with the Ogres; one side had some intelligence and armor, while the other had innate regenerative abilities.

But Snorri did not want these big guys to beat each other with crude weapons; that would undoubtedly be a waste of resources.

"Prepare to charge!" The voice of Fatisi Qishi rang out at the right time. The Knight, Mounted Squire, and adventurers opened up a distance of several dozen yards.

"Ahetanmu, clear a path!"

Hearing Snorri's command, several Ogres in the middle of the road swung their weapons to push aside their clumsy opponents. With the sound of "Clatter, clatter!" hooves, the cavalry began their charge.
