Chapter 189: The Giant Beast Appears

~7 min read 1,295 words

While Kangsitanting was sighing and lamenting that his advice to his Duke father had not been accepted, the Dwarf troops and the pirates clashed. The entire Dwarf army was not currently participating in the battle, only half of their strength.

Judging by the forces the Vampire Coast had just revealed, these warriors were sufficient; the remaining troops had to be kept in reserve to deal with potential schemes and tricks.

The rampaging Corrupted Crabs soon discovered that something was wrong; this new group of short ones was many times more troublesome than the tall ones that shattered at a single touch before. Their naturally grown pincers and appendages could not chisel through the master-forged meteorite Plate Armor.

These Undead creatures—yes, the Corrupted Crabs were not living things; they were also victims under the Vampire captain during their lifetimes.

Because they were relatively common in known habitats and performed quite well on the battlefield, they were frequently hunted by Undead pirate fleets, resurrected, and then incorporated into their ranks.

They possessed no intelligence to begin with, and after being resurrected, they had lost almost all of the biological instinct to avoid danger. They fought fiercely with the Dwarfs, and the thick hides of these fellows were the most difficult to destroy that the clansmen had encountered along the way.

When the Ironbreaker's single-handed Battle Axe could not inflict effective damage, the Hammer Guard and Irondrake pressed forward. They launched fatal strikes at these crabs from the gaps left by their comrades.

Those boarding party members also disintegrated at this time; no matter how bloodthirsty the Fell Bat were, and no matter how strong they had become due to the erosion of dark magic, it could not change the fact that their entire skeletons were relatively light.

These monsters were born unable to carry heavy loads; carrying zombies and barely flying for a short distance was acceptable, but flying in the air for a long time was beyond their capabilities. These bats attempted to pursue the Human troops, but the professional soldiers, having disengaged from combat and reorganized their formation, did not give them many opportunities.

The zombie sailors who landed were soon completely put to rest; in front of the Dwarf army with its overwhelming equipment advantage, their performance was just as vulnerable as those encountered in the village earlier.

That Vampire captain had no prior experience fighting Dwarfs, and by the time he reacted, the decline of his troops was already apparent. This fellow only had time to cast a Curse of Nehek on the crab he was riding.

As the terrifying syllables inherited from the Lord of Undeath Nagash were chanted, to the shock of the Dwarfs, the severed appendages of the crab actually regrew, and it carried its master on its back to quickly flee the battlefield.

"What a pity, Prince Sinuoli, you did not participate in the battle, otherwise it would surely have died under the Storm Hammer!"

"Let that coward run fast!"

The surrounding power-holders began to flatter Sinuoli. As his reputation grew further, Sinuoli gradually felt a trace of discomfort; he knew he could not indulge in it.

With the retreat of the landing troops, the Vampire Coast's offensive for the night came to an end. They lingered slightly in the shallow water to pick up their retreating kin, then prepared to sail out of the harbor.

At this moment, the advantage of the Undead ships became apparent; even if they were leaking everywhere and their masts had been broken, they still moved freely by relying on dark magic, with the resistance from the seawater being the only slight issue.

The navy of Bordeleaux was unwilling to let this opportunity pass; they flanked from both sides, attempting to block the pirate ships, and just then, an unexpected situation occurred.

A giant beast rose from the shallow sea; it looked somewhat similar to a Corrupted Crab, only several times larger in size. The creature's back shell was at least ten meters in diameter and was covered with some seaweed and shipwrecks, which made it look even more imposing.

"Leviathan!"

"Mannan'en above!"

"That Vampire can actually command such a monster!"

The administrators standing on the castle terrace all screamed, not to mention the sailors who were directly facing it! When that Corrupted Leviathan used its large pincers to strike a heavy blow and punched a large hole in the hull of a warship, the pursuit came to an abrupt end.

"This thing is truly rare; many old sailors who have struggled against wind and waves at sea for a lifetime have not seen them many times. These creatures that live on the deepest seabed rarely rise to the sea surface to attack passing ships, but most of those that were attacked never returned."

Kangsitanting sighed with some emotion, though it was unclear whether he regretted the victory slipping away, or if he also hoped to be able to command such a powerful giant monster of the natural world to travel across the seas.

"There were even ignorant people who worshipped them as strange gods because of their powerful destructiveness, not knowing that wherever the ocean covers is the domain of our god!" Lady Shuman added, which also indirectly illustrated the powerful Strength of the Leviathans.

"Fortunately, we also managed to eliminate some war beasts that are difficult to replenish, and forced out another trump card of the Vampire Coast; let's prepare in advance for how to deal with that giant beast!"

Sinuoli made a concluding statement; this was the first giant beast he would directly confront since he transmigrated, if one did not count the Twilight Sisters and the Forest Dragon they rode. He himself was still looking forward to it; as his level became higher, the experience required for leveling up became more and more, so when would killing zombies every day ever end?

Sinuoli did not need to worry about naval warfare; no one would ask Dwarf warriors in heavy Plate Armor to go onto ships to work, in case they fell into the water and could not be pulled up.

Sinuoli and his subordinates spent the daytime checking the city defenses and purging the Vampire's moles. He used the Doom Anvil as a detector to check for magical reactions; given the national situation of Bretonnia, if a spellcaster did not have an official background, there was a high probability that they were a minion of Chaos.

After catching a low-level Vampire and a necromancer who served the Vampire, Sinuoli was satisfied to take them back for torture. These fellows who had been fooled were confident that they could be resurrected, so their mouths were very tight, repeating the same crazy, nonsensical words over and over.

The Dwarfs originally intended to give them a quick death, but Lady Shuman sent two Knights of the Sea God to take them away; this high priest of Mannan'en was just in need of such sacrifices that had a little spellcasting ability and stronger souls.

"Tonight will surely be a fierce battle!" After the administrators in Bordeleaux reached a consensus, they gathered directly in the customs building closer to the harbor defense line.

According to the false information they released, the Duke would lead the fleet back tomorrow; if they did not want to be attacked from both front and back and be caught like turtles in a jar, the Vampire Coast would launch a general offensive tonight.

As the moon hung in the sky, the Undead fleet roared over once again. This time, their warships were half as many again as the previous night, and the holes caused by the shelling had also been simply repaired. Under the ship, there was also a huge shadow; needless to say, it was that Corrupted Leviathan.
