Chapter 190: Captain Salazar

~7 min read 1,226 words

"Their goal is definitely still to make a beach landing!" Kangsitanting observed the situation and said with certainty. No one held a dissenting opinion on this point; if pirates attacked a city, what else would their goal be if not to enter and plunder?

"Boom!" "Boom!"

A new round of artillery fire began. This time, the Bretonnia side was at a disadvantage; the sailors had to keep moving to maintain a certain distance from the Vampire Coast ships, so as not to be sunk by the corrupted leviathans beneath the water.

Therefore, the speed at which the vampires approached the shore tonight was much faster. With a few "Bang!" "Bang!" sounds, the shore-based artillery also opened fire. These fixed coastal defense guns were much more powerful than naval cannons, and one volley actually sank a ship.

"Those drowned corpses won't drown a second time!" a naval commander reminded. Sure enough, the fallen Undead pirates actually began to march on foot along the seabed.

"My god's wrath will devour them!" Lady Shuman smiled, which caused her tattoos and ornaments to emit a tinkling sound.

The Mannan'en priests, who had made preparations in advance, released a large school of sharks to harvest the Undead whose movements were restricted on the seabed. Mannan'en was an Old God born in the natural world from the very beginning, and besides Humans, most creatures in the sea also revered Him.

Driving sea beasts was one of the Divine Arts of Mannan'en, but how powerful a beast one could drive depended on the priest's own magical power and the quality of the offerings.

"Puff!" With a few muffled sounds, the Vampire Coast ships crashed directly onto the shore. This time, the pirates did not probe; it was a full-scale assault.

That corrupted leviathan also crawled ashore from the seabed, and the Vampire Coast fleet commander leaped down from the flagship's command room and landed on the giant beast's carapace.

"Hahaha, you pathetic short-lived worms, kneel down and accept the eternal blessing bestowed upon you by me—Salazar!"

The fleet commander's voice was very hoarse; it was clear he had not spoken for some time. For these guys whose subordinates were mostly Undead, daily conversation indeed seemed to have no use, and they rarely opened their mouths except to intimidate enemies.

The shore-based artillery showed its power once again. To deal with that corrupted leviathan, the gunners prepared some sharp armor-piercing projectiles to replace the grapeshot originally used for wide-area damage.

However, this volley did not achieve the desired effect. The fleet commander had accumulated a great deal of experience in fighting with giant beasts over his long life; he had deployed a pile of cannon fodder troops in front in advance, and those zombie sailors were used as meat shields.

"A bit difficult to deal with!" watching the endless stream of Undead coming off the ships and forming ranks, while the attacks of the Peasant Archers were almost all absorbed by the cannon fodder troops.

Although the zombie sailors fell in rows like wheat being harvested, no experienced old sailor could be happy. They knew that if those vampires found an opportunity, they could raise more in a short time.

"Let's go, we have to join the battle!" Sinuoli picked up his Warhammer and stepped onto the ready Doom Anvil. Currently, the Vampire Coast had not brought out a Terrorgheist, so he was not yet worried about threats from the air.

"Watch the land side! I can guarantee they aren't fighting alone!" Before setting off, Sinuoli did not forget to look back and remind the Humans; in his view, the unknown was the most terrifying.

As Sinuoli appeared on the low wall riding the Doom Anvil, the morale of the Dwarf warriors rose significantly. Fighting under the gaze of the Ancestor Gods was a glory unseen for thousands of years since the Dark Age!

"Fire!" Sinuoli pointed with his Warhammer, and the Dwarf ranged units, having finished loading, unleashed a volley. The power of the Thunder Guns and Dwarf heavy crossbows was much stronger than the longbows of the Peasant Archers, and their accuracy was far superior.

A portion of the ammunition was lobbed by the Dwarfs at the relatively less "cannon fodder" troop types in the rear, but Salazar also made adjustments; he arranged another batch of even larger Undead creatures to act as meat shields.

"Those, are those Ogre corpses?" Sinuoli observed with a telescope from the base of the anvil.

"Sailors call these giant things bloated corpses; rotting Ogre corpses fused with shipwrecks and sea monsters, forming truly twisted abominations. Without a powerhouse capable of countering it, one is enough to slaughter an entire ship!" The Coast Guard commander explained these opponents to the Dwarfs.

After a brief adjustment, a Cannon and an Organ Gun that Sinuoli had brought with the army opened fire along with the shore-based artillery. Because the land-side city walls lacked long-range firepower, Sinuoli did not commit all his Artillery to this side.

This volley cleared a range across an entire sector, but the Vampire Coast still seized the opportunity to deploy their formation.

"Fire at will, they aren't fast, try to cause as much damage as possible!" Sinuoli commanded from his seat.

Compared to Skaven, the Vampire Coast's cannon fodder troops were more troublesome; they would not suffer a morale drop and rout due to taking losses, and they could effectively absorb his firepower.

Before the words had even faded, a surge of Dark Magic suddenly welled up on Salazar, "Vanhel's Death Dance!" He injected a burst of magical energy into the corrupted leviathan beneath him, and the giant beast's speed increased sharply, bypassing the troops in front and charging straight for the city gate!

"How does every vampire have spellcasting ability!" Sinuoli cursed, then triggered the Rune of Wrath and Ruin on the Doom Anvil. The earth on the giant beast's path split open, and the leviathan, due to its massive size, took almost the full brunt of the Rune's damage; it was shaken to the ground, struggling to rise again.

"Praise Mannan'en, He holds all salty water in the palm of His hand!" Lady Shuman's altar was placed far away from Sinuoli to avoid being affected by the Doom Anvil.

But this lady's voice was very loud, perhaps because the ritual to worship Mannan'en was often carried out when a Storm arrived, and it was not easy for participants to hear her voice in bad weather.

Such a choice was, on one hand, to soothe the ocean's wrath; Mannan'en was not a benevolent god. On the other hand, it was because believers could not work when a Storm arrived, so coming to participate in the ritual was a matter of course.

She was seen pulling the lungs of the two vampire minions captured during the day out of their chests as an offering, then pointing her scepter at the giant beast that was waving its appendages in preparation to rise.

Relying on the power of the god, Lady Shuman gained control over the fluids inside the leviathan. The previously calm body fluids suddenly became violent, rampaging inside the giant beast and crazily destroying the tissues within its carapace.

This leviathan could forget about rising; it began to convulse and roll, crushing many surrounding zombies. Salazar, who was standing on it, was also shaken off.
