Chapter 245: Nurgle's Chaos Demon Army
Sinuoli watched those Nurglings trying to grab and bite his legs, gnawing at his ankles. But the attacks of these little fellows could no longer cause damage to him now that he had transformed into his Stone Form.
"Get back!"
Sinuoli stomped his foot fiercely, unleashing a Thunder Strike. After entering the Avatar of the Gods state, he no longer needed to slam his hammer into the ground as a wind-up to unleash his skills.
A shockwave rippled out with Sinuoli's left foot as the center; the surrounding Nurglings were either directly scattered or sent tumbling. Sinuoli broke free from their interception and continued to push toward Ku'gath with his subordinates.
"What is this! You think you can make the Father of Pestilence's Plaguefather difficult like this?" Ku'gath was furious at the miserable state of the little fellows popping out of his own body. Nurgle himself was his Father, and was he not also the father to the Nurglings under his command?
"Go!"
Ku'gath raised his pus-filled arm, and a wave of Plague Miasma spread out. Sinuoli noticed that the clansmen around him slowed their pace, and their attacks became somewhat feeble.
Some Humans with poor resistance began to vomit directly; the rotting stench was unbearable to them, as if they wanted to vomit everything in their stomachs out.
Sinuoli himself was unaffected by this spell; he continued to charge forward with long strides, the Questing Knights following behind him. These strong warriors who had taken the Vow of the Grail were extremely delighted to see that towering Great Unclean One; a Greater Daemon was much more exciting than a Dragon!
The Nurglings gathered in a ball and rolled forward, thus moving the fastest and reaching the front of the line, followed by a group of non-Daemon troops.
These fellows were about the same height as Humans, but had long been tortured by Chaos Mutation to the point where they no longer looked human—their bodies were covered in scars, and the skin beneath, flowing with brown-green pus, was almost completely obscured.
They had only one bloodshot eye on their foreheads, which was constantly oozing pus, and a single horn protruding from their heads; this was the mark of Nurgle's Rot.
These Plaguebearers of Nurgle gathered to block the path ahead, and alongside them fought a group of toad-like monsters that were taller than Humans, also one-eyed and horned, with bodies filled with disgusting filth and pus.
Sinuoli brandished his great axe; his Stone Form also greatly enhanced his Strength Rune, and these low-level monsters could not stop him. Every one of Sinuoli's slashes could send two or three monsters rolling back to the Chaos Realm.
But his subordinates were not as successful. Although the enemies' weapons, carrying filthy diseases, could not poison the warriors who had received divine grace, the large swarms of fat-headed flies around the Chaos Demon Army still interfered with them.
Sinuoli discovered that the Chaos Demon Army could ignore fear and rout like Undead creatures, but compared to skeleton frames and dried-out zombies, these bloated bodies could withstand more damage without falling.
The advance speed of Sinuoli's men had clearly slowed down; to avoid being separated from his clansmen, he had no choice but to slow down as well. But accompanied by cackling laughter, another cluster of explosive projectiles was thrown out by Ku'gath.
The green mist on the battlefield grew thicker. Sinuoli chopped off the mouthparts of a Plague Toad that had shot at him with one axe stroke, then swung his hammer to crush a Plaguebearer riding on the toad's back that was attempting to attack him.
Plaguebearers were mortals who had contracted Nurgle's Rot before death. Some who had mastered riding skills would track Plague Toads in the darkest sewers of the Realm of Decay, drive them out of their filthy nests, and then capture and tame them as mounts.
These toad-riders could use the relatively fast speed of their mounts within the Nurgle forces and their sheer body weight to crush some light troops, but they were still not enough to contend with Sinuoli's elites.
The ranged firepower under Sinuoli's command was also pouring out projectiles. Although they had consumed more than half of their ammunition without replenishment after the successive battles along the way, these clansmen all knew this was the most critical moment.
If they won, Gaoyuanbao was right before their eyes; if they lost, there was no terrain to defend on the Lost Plateau, and it was feared that everyone except the Knights would be finished. Therefore, they kept firing, not even caring if their guns and artillery turned red-hot.
Ku'gath, this Great Unclean One who hated Dwarfs, watched his subordinates fall one after another in the barrage fired by the Dwarfs, so angry that the pus-filled boils on his cheeks burst, and a grinning Nurgling crawled out from one.
The flow of time in the Chaos Realm was not the same as in the mortal world. To Ku'gath, it had only been a short while since he emerged from the punishment of the Soul Forge; how had the firepower of these short-statured ones become so much stronger?
Besides the flammable crossbow bolts and handheld flamethrowers that had caused him trouble at the Dwarf fortress backed by the waterfall earlier, this group also had several sets of multi-barreled artillery and things they carried by hand that fired projectiles trailing flames.
Never mind the Plague Toads, even one of his Beasts of Nurgle had been wiped out under concentrated fire. That enthusiastic little thing, in every aspect, behaved like an overly excited and lively big puppy—only those unromantic short-statured ones could bring themselves to strike!
Ku'gath waved his fat arm again, and the lesser Great Unclean One beside him nodded, leading some elite troops to meet the charging Sinuoli.
"Great Unclean One! Bah! You bloated lumps of meat aren't even fit to tie Tzeentch's shoes!"
Watching that Great Unclean One approach with long strides, holding a flail covered in filth in one hand and waving a bell radiating a profane aura in the other, Sinuoli spoke up to provoke him, intending to take on this powerful opponent himself.
The Chaos Four Gods were in constant conflict, and Nurgle, the Lord of Decay, and Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways, were mortal enemies. Tzeentch symbolized change and inconstancy, while Nurgle's power came from eternal despair.
In their endless confrontation, Tzeentch set His unexpected evolution and metamorphosis directly against Nurgle's closed, endless, and stagnant cycle between life and death.
"Father does not like feathered things! Little brat, you are not worthy to join us, you should only turn into dust!" The Great Unclean One swung his flail down.
"Well met!"
Sinuoli shouted inwardly; he rolled forward and swung his axe at the Greater Daemon's ankle.
"Snap!" The Great Unclean One's attack hit empty air, but it did sweep away several Daemons crowded around Sinuoli.
A flail was originally a farm tool, consisting of a row of wooden strips or bamboo strips attached to a long wooden handle, used for threshing grain. But as a weapon, it consisted of a grip, a chain connecting the hammer head, and the hammer head used for attacking.
"Puff!"
Sinuoli swung his axe down with force, but could not cut very deep; a stream of green, decaying pus sprayed out, sizzling as it landed on the ground.
Although Great Unclean Ones wore no armor, by virtue of their tough, leather-like necrotic skin, they were second only to Bloodthirsters in their ability to take a beating among the Greater Daemons of the Four Gods.
