Chapter 247: A Sudden Intervention

~7 min read 1,272 words

Sinuoli's subordinates were wailing in misery, but Plague Father Ku'gath was not having an easy time either. He sat on his palanquin, gasping for breath; the Winds of Magic in the nearby space had been exhausted to open the portal.

He had drained his last remaining Winds of Magic to cast this powerful Nurgle-aligned spell known as "Withered Swelling."

Sinuoli activated the Valaya Ritual, hoping to save his subordinates' lives as much as possible. The green specks of light generated out of thin air were incompatible with the toxic mist of the Nurgle daemon army, and they began to cancel each other out before they could even land on the wounded.

"Dwarf, big bad!"

The Great Unclean One reached out and grabbed at the air; spellcasters of this level undoubtedly all had extra magical reserves and were themselves good conductors of the Winds of Magic, so he attempted to recharge himself.

Ku'gath was extremely annoyed, and so was Sinuoli; he knew he could not let Ku'gath cast spells like this any longer.

"Swollen fat corpse, I must squeeze all the pus out of you!"

Following Sinuoli's roar, he threw his Warhammer; the max-level Storm Hammer combined with the extra Strength Rune brought by Stone Form made this strike exceptionally powerful.

Ku'gath was massive in size and slow in movement, and sitting on his plague palanquin, he had no way to dodge. He took this Storm Hammer head-on and was knocked backward; it took the Nurglings carrying the palanquin a long time to stabilize the figure of their creator.

But this was still not enough; the Plague Father was constantly approaching, and Sinuoli's subordinates were about to face his wrath head-on. Just then, a strange sound rang out across this battlefield.

"Gak gak gak! Ku'gath, it seems the daemon fire in the Soul Forge didn't teach you a lesson!"

A blue portal suddenly appeared above Ku'gath's head, and a red feather shot out from it, sticking directly into the Plague Father's pus-filled back.

"Who are you? Zha, Zhaluoke! Why are you here? Do you want to, do you dare to oppose me?" Nurgle's once most favored child was knowledgeable and experienced; he saw that feather and instantly judged who was about to ruin his good deed.

"I tell you! This dwarf is not right, he is a variable! If..." Ku'gath attempted to reason with the newcomer. He had lost the initiative, and his previous opening of the portal and casting of spells had exhausted his power; facing the one hiding inside the portal, he clearly did not have the upper hand.

"Gak gak gak, in your brain—no, you rotten pieces of meat don't have brains at all, you only know how to wait for shit in a dirty latrine; only you disgusting things would find joy in that." Zhaluoke interrupted him with a cackle.

Through that blue portal, the "gak gak" cackle, and the feather of unknown purpose, the identity of the meddler was self-evident—a Greater Daemon under Tzeentch, a Lord of Change.

The surrounding Dwarfs loudly mocked the endless infighting of the Chaos Four Gods, but Sinuoli remained tense. Although more than four years had passed, he still remembered that exchange with Tzeentch during his initial guild assessment.

Although Tzeentch and Nurgle were hostile, he could not believe the nonsense that an enemy's enemy is a friend; to Tzeentch and the Greater Daemons under His command, the concept of a friend did not exist.

A blue bird-like daemon stepped out from the portal; he was a giant creature covered in feathers, with a carrion bird's head growing on a precarious, drooping neck.

The Lord of Change used the dagger in his right hand, shaped like an enlarged clock hand, to flick the staff in his left hand; the top of the staff was a large gold watch with countless twisted hands.

As the gold watch turned, the red feather on Ku'gath's back trembled in unison. The Plague Father attempted to resist the Lord of Change's power, but being in a weakened state, he had no power to resist the sneak attack of a Greater Daemon of the same level.

In the blink of an eye, Ku'gath was sucked into the portal; judging by the intense dark power within, the other end should be the Chaos Realm. This world was already repelling daemons from the Warp, so pulling from the other side to banish an exhausted Greater Daemon was not a difficult task.

Ku'gath left the Mortal World amidst his own roar, and the Lord of Change Zhaluoke cackled as he also stepped into the portal; as the last few feathers disappeared into the gate, the deep blue portal closed.

"Brothers! Kill! Drive these rotten pieces of meat out of our world!"

Ku'gath was suddenly banished, and both sides on the battlefield were shocked by this sudden change. Sinuoli was the first to react; he roared and swung his axe at the Great Unclean One's knee joint.

"Dwarf, either become a child of the Benevolent Father, or be crushed by us!"

This lower-ranking Great Unclean One had also existed for an unimaginably long time; he reacted quickly and immediately took over command of the daemon army. Daemons would not be completely killed in the Mortal World; their souls would eventually return to the Warp, though this process might be somewhat long.

With Ku'gath banished by the Tzeentch Greater Daemon, the attention of the Benevolent Father Nurgle had presumably shifted here; if he could prove his ability under the Benevolent Father's nose, not only would the resurrection process be accelerated, but his power might also be enhanced.

The two sides collided once again; Sinuoli shook his body, vibrating off the eroded rubble. In Stone Form, his injuries would not have a major impact on the battle, but if the damage taken exceeded the limit, Avatar of the Gods would be forcibly dispelled.

A large group of more elite Nurglings swarmed to the feet of the Great Unclean One; these guys were Ku'gath's personal guards. Zhaluoke certainly would not have taken them along when he banished Ku'gath.

Opinions varied on how Greater Daemons, such high-ranking daemons, were produced, but according to the Plague Father's own words, he was a Nurgling that had popped off Nurgle himself; such an origin resulted in the Nurglings he produced being sturdier and stronger.

To Sinuoli himself, elite Nurglings could not damage his stone body, but for the Slayers who were bare-chested and wore no armor, it was a different story. These small, battle-hardened, and more ferocious creatures held back the warriors who were surrounding the Great Unclean One.

Sinuoli raised his hand to retrieve his hammer; he decided to increase his damage output by dual-wielding. Theoretically, swinging battle axes with both hands was a good way to counter large units,

But firstly, although the newly acquired battle axe was produced by the Old Ones, its construction was simple and its quality was not as good as the one-handed Warhammer. Secondly, how to use two-handed heavy weapons required extra practice; Sinuoli had previously just been swinging wildly with the brute strength brought by Avatar of the Gods, and a considerable proportion of his strength was wasted on empty air.

He roared and fought with the Great Unclean One, hammering and hacking, attempting to destroy the physical form of this powerful daemon.

His stone body had suffered quite a bit of damage under Ku'gath's ranged strikes; Sinuoli did not dare to test where his limit was. Therefore, he kept rolling and moving his position, dodging the tricky strikes of the flail while attacking around the Great Unclean One's pillar-like thick legs.
