Chapter 40: Waaagh Magic

~7 min read 1,294 words

"What!?"

Seeing the steel wall before him clearly, the Orc Captain let out a roar of disbelief!

During this period of engagement, the cavalry under his command had long since lost their original numbers, but why were these troublesome iron cans in the Dwarf ranks getting more numerous the more they fought?

He could not help but feel a bit desperate. But the situation was stronger than the beast; once the momentum of the charge began, even if he could control his own mount, he would be pushed forward by the subordinates behind him!

"Waaagh!" The Orc Captain let out a desperate war cry, and he swung the chopper in his hand toward the Ironbreaker in front of him.

"Bang!"

The blade struck the shield,

"Hmph!" Supported by his teammates behind him and protected by the armor on his body, the Ironbreaker only let out a muffled grunt in the face of the massive impact, retreating only half a step.

"Squish!" A nearby Ironbreaker chopped off the pig's head with an axe, and blood sprayed out from the carcass.

Watching his life-bound mount decapitated, the Orc Captain's eyes almost spewed fire! He swung his chopper frantically, and his subordinates subsequently crashed into the Ironbreaker line.

Under the continuous impact, the thin line formed by over a hundred Dwarfs seemed to be teetering.

"Scatter!" Grom gave a new order. The Ironbreakers quickly opened up several passages,

Just as the Orcs were stunned, wondering if it was their own ferocity that made the Dwarfs in front of them fearful and retreat, Grom and his Hammer Guards stepped out from the gaps, swinging their two-handed heavy hammers to relieve these Orcs of the trouble of thinking!

Just as Grom and a few Hammer Guards knocked the most stubborn Orc Captain to the ground, Boss Raging Axe and his Orc infantry arrived.

Watching the War Pig Cavalry he had painstakingly built up get wiped out, Boss Raging Axe's heart was almost broken; this was his capital for dominating the Badlands!

However, the charge of the War Pig Cavalry was not entirely useless; although they failed to cause too much loss to the front-row Dwarfs, they successfully disrupted the Dwarfs' originally impregnable defensive line.

Now, facing the Orc troops charging over with wild shouts, Grom had no time to reorganize the defense! He could only face the Orcs head-on with his Hammer Guards.

"Waaagh!"

"In the name of Grimnir!"

The commanders of both sides let out roars, and the green wave crashed against the steel wall!

"Fire! Fire at their rear guard!" To avoid friendly fire on the front line, Sinuoli ordered a ceasefire once the cavalry charged close; now, it was time to open fire again.

The gunners and Nuxhou raised their weapons, lobbing ammunition at an angle onto the rear-guard Orcs who were not in direct contact with the Dwarfs, and a chorus of wails erupted instantly.

At the same time, the two bolt throwers, which had remained idle because their slow rate of fire made them difficult to aim at cavalry, also opened fire.

The spear-like projectiles, nearly as tall as a Dwarf, were imbued with immense kinetic energy by the tough bowstrings; the power of a single shot could penetrate two Greenskins and still have enough left over to pin them straight to the ground.

Seeing their subordinates suffering rapid losses in the hail of bullets and arrows, both Greenskin commanders grew anxious.

"Faster! Make it faster for me!" Boss Raging Axe brandished the Battle Axe in his hand, attempting to break through the Dwarf line with his Big 'Un guard.

In many tribes, the largest Orcs would gather into a thug team, a team known as Big 'Uns. These warriors were larger, stronger, and more aggressive than average Orc Boys.

Those who achieved leadership status among the Big 'Uns often became future bosses or even warlords. They were muscular, nearly two meters tall, and held massive choppers, possessing full lethality.

"You lot of trash! Not even as good as Snotlings!"

The Goblin Shaman on the mountain watched his side's War Pig riders get wiped out and the infantry's attack falter; he jumped up and down in a hurry, venting his anger on the archers beside him.

Compared to the Dwarf ranged units, their results were negligible, with only a few unlucky Dwarfs hit in their unarmored faces, forcing them to withdraw from the battle.

"Ahhh! Mork tells me that if this continues, the trouble will be big!"

Feeling the energy reaction within the "Great Green," the Goblin Shaman felt a headache coming on!

The difference between Orc and Goblin Shamans and ordinary mages was that their magic originated from the psychic energy generated by the surrounding Greenskins.

Every Shaman could draw magic from the Great Green—the collective soul realm of the Greenskins—but the magic obtained under different circumstances would also vary.

If the Orcs were fighting, the Shaman's power would increase due to the Orc resonance gained from their companions. This was usually a good thing, but if these resonances came from panicked and confused Orc deserters, it was a bad thing.

"Waaagh!" The Goblin Shaman let out a strange cry,

"Lads, follow me down and kill those stunties with the shootas!" Saying this, he stepped onto a spider, followed by two hundred or so Goblin Wolf Riders, whistling as they charged down the mountain.

As the mount ran, a wave of evil energy condensed on the Goblin Shaman; as he brushed past the battle line where the Dwarfs and Orcs were tangled at the foot of the mountain,

"Get itchy! You little stunties!"

He scratched his armpits frantically, giggling like a madman, and transmitted his painful dermatitis through magical energy to the Dwarf Warriors who had rushed up to try to block them; the Goblin Shaman released a Small Waaagh Spell called Itchy Nuisance.

Greenskin magic was divided into two types; those used by Orcs were called Big Waaagh Spells, which were powerful and could be used for destruction,

while those used by Goblins were called Small Waaagh Spells, which were less powerful and could only be used to harass the enemy.

Even with excellent magic resistance, these brave Dwarf warriors within the spell's area of effect still felt an unbearable itch; the pain from the inside out made them want to take off their armor and find a place to have a good scratch.

Although they resisted the temptation with their own willpower, the warriors' charging pace still slowed down.

Taking advantage of this gap, the main force of Goblin cavalry slipped past the left side of the Dwarf front line, with only the thirty or forty Goblins at the very back being blocked by the recovered Dwarfs.

The Dwarfs did not attempt to pursue, knowing that they could not catch the swift-as-wind cavalry with their own speed, and doing so would instead cause their original defensive line to collapse, spiraling out of control.

The Goblin Shaman pulled away with the Wolf Riders that had charged out; he needed to recover his Winds of Magic, and the wolf mounts also needed to catch their breath. To attack the Dwarf ranged units, they still had to break through the Miner units responsible for protecting the flanks.

Gold Seeker also had very rich combat experience, "Little Beards on the left, don't panic! The Wolf Riders can't hurt you! Grip your pickaxes tight and don't relax! Those on the right, split half over here!"

While organizing the Dwarfs on the left flank to stabilize the formation, he diverted some Dwarfs from the right flank to strengthen the defense on the left.
