Chapter 41: Crushing the Greenskins
Just as the approximately seventy Miners pulled over from the right flank were running to approach the left battle line, the Wolf Riders suddenly moved under the command of their Shaman. They were as still as virgins and as swift as hares, rapidly raiding the left-flank Dwarfs.
Just when everyone, including Gold Seeker and Sinuoli, thought they wanted to launch an attack while the reinforcements were still unsteady, the Wolf Riders suddenly turned!
"Brothers! Prepare the Thunder Tubes! Throw!"
The order given by Gold Seeker was half a beat slow; he wanted to wait for the Wolf Riders to charge closer so the Thunder Tubes would have a better lethal effect.
But facing the sudden turn of the Wolf Riders, a wave of Thunder Tubes almost all smashed into empty space! As the smoke and dust raised by the explosions dissipated, only seven or eight corpses of Goblins with poor horsemanship and slow turning speeds were left on the ground.
That Shaman riding on a spider let out a cackling, weird laugh as his scheme succeeded, and then he led the remaining cavalry in a half-circle to charge straight at the Dwarfs' right flank.
At this moment, it was already too late for Gold Seeker to move the Miners from the left flank to support the right; no matter how fast the Dwarfs' two short legs moved, they could not compare to the four legs of a wolf!
In an instant, the thin defensive line on the right flank was exposed under the Herald of the Greenskins! The remaining Miners bravely threw their Thunder Tubes and then swung their pickaxes to charge up; every Dwarf knew that whether they could protect the ranged troops behind them was the key to winning this battle.
Just then, accompanied by a terrifying long howl, the Goblin Shaman summoned a pale moon, on which a large, green-faced, fanged Goblin-like face coldly looked down upon all living things!
"Evil Moon Curse!" Sinuoli and the Goblin Shaman roared at the same time.
Under the influence of this spell, which could be considered quite strong among Xiao Waaagh magic, the formation of the Miners was disrupted.
The Wolf Riders charged through their ranks; under the restraint of the Shaman, the riders did not chase the scattered Miner troops but headed straight for the ranged troops!
The Goblin Shaman knew that, as usual, although these Dwarfs' ranged troops had some melee ability, by relying on his remaining subordinates and his own remaining reserves of Winds of Magic, they could take care of these ranged troops, or at the very least force the front-line Dwarf melee troops to return for support; in any case, they were already close to the fruits of victory!
Seeing from afar that his cavalry had completed the flanking mission and was fighting against Genuomu-Suiluozhe, the Axe-Fierce Boss laughed wantonly:
"Wahahaha! Gork is above! Short-stack, your backside is going to be ruined by me!"
"Is that so? My brother will not let me down!" Genuomu remained unmoved; he swung his Warhammer around and smashed it down fiercely from above.
The Axe-Fierce Boss used his axe to block the attack but was knocked back half a step.
"Bah! Damn dwarf! I'm going to pluck your beard off to make a scarf!" the Axe-Fierce Boss roared.
"Lads, all of you give me more effort! The short-stacks' shooters are about to be touched by the Goblins, and we great Orcs cannot fall behind! Waaagh!"
Genuomu was not to be outdone: "Clansmen! Stay focused! The Chosen of the Goddess is protecting our rear!"
"It's time!" Sinuoli thought to himself, gripping the Warhammer in his hand.
"Form up! Charge!" Following his roar, the Anvil Guard and Eternal Hammer Guard moved; with Sinuoli as the center, they swung the weapons in their hands and charged toward the incoming Wolf Riders.
"Mork is above!" Looking at this group of Dwarfs charging over, the Goblin Shaman felt the same despair as he had with the Orc cavalry captain earlier!
This scene was not like the situation he had imagined where the Dwarf ranged troops would scramble to pull out their sidearms.
Although there were not many of these charging Dwarfs, fifty at most, they were all elites! How could these Dwarfs still have such a reserve force?
There was not much time left for the Goblin Shaman to despair; he only had time to order his mount to slow down. The galloping cavalry and the torrent of steel soon collided, and the sounds of "Boom!" and "Puff!" were incessant.
The weight of the wolf plus the Goblin rider on its back was not even half that of an Anvil Guard in full Meteorite Iron Armor; their impact was bounced off by the Shields, and then the Battle Axes and heavy hammers made of meteorite iron slashed and smashed into them.
Partly to pursue speed, and partly due to the frailty of the Goblins themselves and the limited carrying capacity of the wolves, these riders had almost no armor on their bodies, and the weapons in their hands were only the most ordinary Scimitars.
The Dwarfs' weapons could easily chop these guys, man and wolf alike, into two halves, while the blades and the mount's claws in their hands struggled to even leave a scratch on the Dwarfs' armor!
This was not a fair fight at all, but a massacre!
The Goblin Shaman just came back to his senses and found that his subordinates had already been reduced by half, and the rest were cowering and not advancing.
"This, this group of dwarfs, too strong! I, we retreat!" Saying this, he turned the spider he was riding, not daring to cast even a single spell, and turned around to run.
Facing the fleeing Goblins, the Anvil Guard chased for a few steps and then stopped.
"Damn Greenskins! Their guts aren't even as big as a Rock Sheep's!"
"Have the guts to come back! You lot keep yelling!"
The Dwarfs had not killed to their heart's content, and they vented their emotions by roaring.
Watching the Goblin Shaman running further and further away, Sinuoli, who was protected in the middle and whose Warhammer had not yet been stained with blood, suddenly had an inspiration; he swung the hammer in his hand around,
"Hah!" He threw the hammer out with force!
"Puff!" With a sound, perhaps it was the blessing of the Ancestor Gods, the hammer hit the Goblin Shaman's head squarely; this unlucky fellow fell at the sound, leaving only his spider to flee in a panic!
The Dwarfs and ranged troops around Sinuoli hesitated slightly upon seeing this before cheering!
"Chosen of the Goddess! Chosen of the Goddess!"
According to the Dwarfs' original simple nickname naming method, based on the performance just now, Sinuoli should perhaps be called Flying Hammer or Genuomu-Suiluozhe,
However, the former was far less imposing than Chosen of the Goddess, and the owner of the latter was currently in front trading blows with the Orc Boss, so the clansmen still used the slightly chuunibyou-sounding Chosen of the Goddess.
Hearing the cheers, the troops fighting at the foot of the mountain slowed down. The Axe-Fierce Boss looked up and saw not the Dwarf ranged troops fleeing in all directions, but his own cavalry in rout.
Seeing that his second-in-command, who had been with him since the day he started his army, also had his head smashed, the Axe-Fierce Boss despaired; he realized that his future was bleak.
"Hmph! You dare to be distracted while fighting me!?"
Genuomu seized the opportunity of the Orc's daze; he first swept with his hammer to force the Axe-Fierce Boss to block horizontally with his axe, then flicked the Warhammer upward, and took advantage of the Orc's numb tiger's mouth and unstable grip to knock the Battle Axe flying.
Finally, Genuomu jumped up and, using the momentum, smashed down with force, shattering the Axe-Fierce Boss's skull! With a three-hammer combo to kill the powerful enemy, Genuomu stood in front of the Orc's corpse and let out a roar:
"In the name of the Ancestors! The Grudge of Karak-Varn has been settled! I, Genuomu-Suiluozhe, dedicate this victory to..."
Just then, a "Boom" sound came from the left side of the Dwarf troops.
