Chapter 556: Foreseeing the Future
Lei En teleported from the arena back to the villa in the academy garden.
Standing in the empty hall, his face was full of vigilance; Truth Will, Soul Eye, and All-Seeing Eye were all activated, scanning back and forth, his gaze pierced the walls and inspected the entire villa several times, not overlooking the basement or other dimensions.
After confirming there was no danger, he finally exhaled a long breath.
"Fortunately, they didn't come."
Lei En muttered gratefully.
If anyone saw his nervous demeanor, they would never believe that this was Chairman Lei En who had just defeated three Naiser Elders, whose imposing presence in the arena was a completely different person.
It's not that he's cowardly, but the potential enemies are too terrifying!
The Augulevi Master, whose name has resonated through the Empire for over two thousand years, who would dare to pound his chest and claim he is not afraid?
Though this was a plan set together with his teacher, and the teacher said he would guarantee his safety, he still feared the "what if".
What if the Augulevi Master has not fallen, or has already fallen but does not play by the rules, what then?
Lei En feared that as soon as he teleported back, he would see the Augulevi Master appear before him, leaving even his teacher no time to intervene.
If walking out of the arena might cause unnecessary trouble, he wouldn't even dare to teleport; the Holy Soul Wizard's methods are unfathomable, his magical arts profound—if he tampered with the teleportation in secret, Lei En wouldn't even know how he died.
Years ago in Zhu Bile Mountain City, the Storm Queen had already shown this trick.
"When you need to be cowardly, you should be a little cowardly."
Lei En slowly ascended the stairs into his room. During the ascent, his senses never relaxed for a second, constantly monitoring the surroundings.
Thunder God's Hammer stayed close by, hidden within the void just within reach.
He sat down to meditate, trying to restore the soul energy spent in battle, but found his mind restless, unable to enter meditation.
"Forget it, let the soul energy recover on its own."
Moreover, vigilance drops sharply during meditation, leaving no chance for an enemy ambush.
Lei En sat at the desk, casually opened several books to read, while cheers from the arena audience drifted over from time to time.
Time passed minute by minute, and the room was so quiet one could hear a pin drop.
Maintaining such high vigilance for two or three hours straight, even Lei En felt a bit overwhelmed, his spirit growing weary.
Wizards from Weizelan gradually returned to the villa.
Lei En shook his head and got up to go downstairs.
He decided to walk in the garden to avoid the Weizelan Wizards; he would do the same for the next few days, lest his own ambush endanger them.
"Chairman Lei En."
"Chairman."
Lei En smiled, nodded back to the Wizards, and stepped out of the hall into the garden under their admiring gazes, strolling along the stone path. It was early autumn; a faint fragrance filled the garden, and the western sun filtered through the canopy overhead, adding a few days of picturesque ambience.
The garden was vast, and because an exchange tournament was underway, there were few people.
Lei En activated his Rainbow Light Cloak, and his figure vanished into the air.
He remained invisible for a while, but didn't go far, finding a long stone bench beneath a secluded tree and silently sitting down one by one.
Sitting here, he could see the activity on the villa side.
A few birds perched on the trees above, hopping among the branches and chirping merrily, making the tranquil garden feel even more serene; the fresh air was refreshing, and Lei En's tightly coiled mind relaxed a bit.
"Huh…"
Lei En sat relaxed, feeling the quiet private space.
"Has the teacher not arrived yet?"
He scanned the surroundings but still saw no figure, and a few doubts arose in his mind—had the teacher encountered trouble and been entangled?
The Augulevi Master hadn't attacked him, but rushed straight for the teacher?
He couldn't be that reckless!
While Lei En was uneasy, he suddenly sensed something and looked up.
A crow flew in from the horizon and landed on the tree above his head. It was as black as any crow in the world, its feathers glossy, about the size of two palms, perched on the branch, tilting its head to examine the man below, its dark‑yellow eyes curious, and it opened its beak with a call.
"Caw!"
Soul Eye looked at the crow's head, piercing its soul, finding nothing unusual—a plain ordinary crow, not even a monster.
"No!"
Lei En suddenly realized, he was invisible; how could a crow see him?
The crow was a Wizard in disguise!
The Rainbow Light Cloak's invisibility was even stronger than the Seventh Ring's advanced concealment; even three Naiser Elders who cast True Knowledge couldn't see him?
Most crucially, Soul Eye couldn't see through its transformation.
Startled, Lei En instinctively raised his hand to fire a Rainbow Light beam, but the crow spoke, "You would even kill a crow?"
Its voice was deep, male.
"Who are you, sir?"
Lei En heightened his alertness, his right hand loosely gripping the handle of Thunder God's Hammer behind his back, ready to hurl it for an earth‑shattering strike.
Even Soul Eye couldn't pierce it, indicating the opponent's rank was higher than his, at least reaching Saint Rank!
An unknown Saint Rank transcendent must be dealt with at full force.
"You kid!" the crow said with some displeasure, "Young man, don't be so impulsive, relax a bit, take your hand out from behind. Anxi has always told me your temper is good, easy to get along with, but it seems he doesn't know you well enough."
Anxi…
Lei En heard the teacher's name, and from the crow's words inferred that this person was familiar with the teacher, seeming to be a longtime old friend.
His heart stirred slightly; he had already guessed the identity.
Lei En released his right hand from Thunder God's Hammer, smiling, "I think one should be ruthless to enemies like autumn wind sweeping leaves, and warm to friends like spring. Your Excellency, Prophet, do you think so?"
This crow was the greatest "Grand Prophet" in Empire history, revered as "the Prophet" Master Medif!
He accurately foretold many major events, and the collapse crisis of Weizelan Fu Kong Cheng a few years ago was one of them.
Master Mei Di Fu and the teacher were inseparable friends.
In the Supreme Council, the Prophet was even the teacher's staunch ally!
This Holy Soul Wizard's whereabouts were unknown; it was said there was a hidden Wizard Tower, but no one knew where it was, and unexpectedly the teacher summoned him out.
"Interesting."
A raven pecked its head, landed from the tree, its jet‑black wings turned into a burst of dark light, revealing a tall, slender male wizard.
He looked like a man in his forties, plain‑faced, with narrow eyes whose pupils were jet black and slightly upturned corners. He sported a thick beard that covered his cheeks, upper lip and chin in neat, coarse bristles, giving him a somewhat fierce bearing.
He wore a dark robe embroidered with intricate red enchantment runes, clearly not a common item.
The most striking feature was his cloak: the shoulder portion woven from raven feathers, broad and thick, with a high collar that could be lifted as a hood, and a tattered black‑red cape attached at the back, its edges riddled with gaps.
"Master Mei Di Fu."
Lei En rose and saluted, voluntarily deactivating the invisibility of his rainbow‑light cloak, the minimum respect owed to a Holy Soul Wizard.
"Sit down," Mei Di Fu said with a smile, nodding, "Your perception is keen; you even detected my Nine-ring Transformation Technique."
"If the Master hadn't looked at me, I wouldn't have noticed," Lei En replied modestly.
In truth, he was even more surprised inside.
This esteemed Prophet practiced both Arcane and elemental arts, yet his shape‑shifting was so masterful it rivaled pure shapeshifting wizards and druids; had the other not been so open, he might truly have overlooked it.
Mei Di Fu examined him with both eyes, then suddenly shook his head.
"Anxi sent me to protect you," he said casually as a friend, sitting on the stone chair beside Lei En, "I also saw your battle with Elder Naise. Honestly, I was shocked; if you hadn't reached Holy Soul, the Empire wouldn't tolerate such arrogance from you."
"Thank you for the Master's praise; I think so too."
Lei En accepted with a sense of justified confidence; excessive modesty is pride, and at his level he possessed enough self‑assurance even before a Holy Soul Wizard.
"Hahaha…" Mei Di Fu couldn't help laughing, "But don't get too smug; without Holy Soul, the Empire still wouldn't allow such arrogance."
He said that, yet Lei En could hear that the Prophet held a favorable impression of him.
"Master," he steered the conversation to the point, probing, "The teacher asked you to protect me; do you know why?"
"Obvious!"
Mei Di Fu replied irritably, "Of course I know. Anxi this time dragged me into a trap, Aug…" He suddenly paused, looked around, his expression identical to Lei En's earlier, then lowered his voice and continued, "Can I even withstand that person!"
"You're not a match for Augulevi Master either?" Lei En asked, curious.
"In this world, no mortal can match Augulevi; at most they can only survive," Mei Di Fu's expression grew solemn, "Level 20 and above are Holy Soul Wizards, but Holy Souls differ from each other, the power gap is far larger than you imagine."
"How big?" Lei En pressed quickly.
To the overwhelming majority, Holy Soul Wizards are unattainable beings, lofty and distant; even a close encounter is a great honor.
Information among Holy Soul Wizards is known only to those who have reached that level.
The teacher also dislikes discussing this.
Mei Di Fu, however, had no reservations and revealed, "The most straightforward indicator is the wizard's rank. Above Holy Soul, every five levels constitute a tier: Level 25, Thirty-level, Level 35… Do you know what level Augulevi is?"
"I don't know," Lei En shook his head.
"You may guess," Mei Di Fu said with a hint of a smile.
How could he guess? Augulevi Master's level is one of the Empire's top secrets. Lei En was at a loss, so he guessed offhand, "Thirty-level?"
Mei Di Fu shook his head.
"Level 35?"
Mei Di Fu still shook his head.
Lei En was stunned; it exceeded Level 35! As far as he knew, the teacher's level was certainly below Level 35.
"Level 40?" he tried guessing again.
Yet Mei Di Fu slowly shook his head, his gaze drifting upward, indicating it could be even higher.
Lei En inhaled sharply, utterly shocked.
Above Level 40, more than double that of a newly promoted Holy Soul Wizard, meaning Augulevi Master has undergone eleven Soul Transformations; his spiritual essence has evolved to a realm unimaginable!
"Exactly how many?" Lei En asked, his mind numb.
Mei Di Fu said calmly, "Level 41."
Lei En let out a long breath, easing the mental shock he had received.
Since the inception of the wizard profession three thousand years ago, no one knows the maximum wizard level; even the deities cannot answer, suggesting there may be no limit.
However, Level 41 is certainly the highest known wizard level.
Older, more ancient sorcerers are rumored to have surpassed Level 40, but the accounts are too remote to verify.
This is truly absurd!
Augulevi Master truly is the strongest wizard in history!
No wonder the teacher said that even the incarnation of the God of Magic could not defeat Augulevi Master; only the combined effort of all Supreme Council members could. Yet to make the Supreme Council's Holy Soul Wizards believe this, solid evidence is required, otherwise no one dares to anger such a terrifying wizard.
Master Mei Di Fu is the teacher's best friend, perhaps without equal, able to trust the teacher unconditionally, but other Holy Soul Wizards may not be the same.
At this moment, Mei Di Fu also wore a worried expression.
Clearly he found the matter too tricky, even for a Holy Soul Wizard, it was too dangerous.
Lei En asked cautiously, "Master, may I boldly ask a question?"
"You want to ask me what level I am, right?"
Mei Di Fu glanced at Lei En, seeing through his thoughts without anger, and said calmly, "I'm only Level 26; my strength is far below Augulevi's. If he attacks you, I could only hold him off for half a minute, then I wouldn't be able to protect you."
"So, you have half a minute to flee, as far as you can," his expression was half‑smile, half‑serious.
"Um…" Lei En felt his scalp tingle.
For a terrifying Level 41 wizard, distance is no issue; whether near or far, escaping is futile unless one has a way to conceal one's whereabouts.
The Thunder God's Hammer can let the user slip through the void and enter multiple planes, but Augulevi Master surely also has means of plane travel.
Only caring about fleeing is not the solution.
I wonder whether Augulevi Master can withstand my full‑force hammer strike?
While Lei En was pondering, Mei Di Fu suddenly said with confidence, "Don't worry, you kid won't die this time, but I might not be so lucky."
"Huh?" Lei En was bewildered: "Why?"
"I used the Prophecy Technique yesterday and saw some fragments of your future, indicating you'll live at least until then." Mei Di Fu frowned, as if troubled by something incomprehensible, "But your future is strange; I can't make sense of it."
He raised his hand and waved, and a scene composed of light and shadow unfolded.
The sky glowed blood‑red, the earth streamed with lava, an endless Demon army fought wildly, its end invisible, and the single image was breathtaking.
High above, a massive, oddly shaped fortress floated.
It seemed entirely forged of metal, shaped like a triangular dagger magnified countless times, stretching several hundred meters from tip to base; its silver‑gray armor bore countless lightning runes, and its tail emitted a blazing blue flame. From the fortress flew tall warriors clad in blue armor, each wielding various Soul Guns, their gunfire roaring as they freely harvested the Demons' lives.
That future fragment lasted only a few seconds before ending.
Mei Di Fu looked at Lei En, puzzled, and asked, "This is a prophecy about you, yet you don't appear in it; do you know why?"
