Chapter 131: Gate Guardian

"I have not yet performed a Normal Summon this turn."

Labyrinth Brother (Younger) took a deep breath and drew another card from his hand.

"I summon 'Kaiser Sea Horse' in Attack Position!"

【Kaiser Sea Horse, ATK 1700】

"Then I set one card on the field. Turn end."

Labyrinth Brother (Younger) ended his turn with a cold face.

He had begun to vaguely feel that he might have underestimated this pair of student combinations before him.

When they accepted the commission, they hadn't taken it to heart because they heard it was a penalty duel at Duel Academy and the opponents were just two first-year students. But at this moment, although it couldn't yet be called a formal clash, the two of them had already begun to feel a trace of tension.

Even before the battle had officially started, two of their brother duo's three Gate Guardians had been "trapped" away in a single turn—one sent to the Underworld, the other to a different dimension. Such a thing was rare in their past team-up experiences.

Labyrinth Brother (Older) and his younger brother exchanged a glance, understanding each other's thoughts through their eyes.

This duel might not be won as smoothly as they had thought.

Of course, losing was impossible; at most, it would just take a little more effort. They were legends who had dueled Yugi Mutou; wouldn't it be a joke to lose a tag-team battle to two academy freshmen?

It was Jaden's turn: "My turn, draw!

First, I activate the Spell Card 'Pot of Greed' to draw two cards from my deck.

Next, I set one monster on the front field, then set two cards on the field, and then turn end!"

Just like in the anime, the tag-team rules adopted by the academy this time were of the type where "no one can attack on the first turn." Only after the turns of all four people in the first round had passed—that is, after Jaden's turn ended—could the Battle Phase begin.

Many of the watching students held their breath at this moment.

The real battle could be said to truly begin from this round.

"My turn, draw."

It was Labyrinth Brother (Older)'s turn again.

"I activate the Spell Card 'Monster Reincarnation'!"

Labyrinth Brother (Older) drew a card from his hand and discarded it to the Graveyard: "Monster Reincarnation allows me to discard one card from my hand to return one monster from my Graveyard to my hand.

The one I want to return to my hand is, of course, 'Suijin' which was discarded by your 'Mind Crush' last turn!"

Suijin's illusory shadow appeared on the field, seemingly about to be recovered from the Graveyard zone. But before he could make any further moves, he heard Jaden suddenly interrupt.

"That won't work! I also activate my set card, the Trap Card 'Hero Rule 1 - Five Freedom'! (Original Card)

Up to five cards in total from both players' Graveyards are banished from the game!"

The Labyrinth Brothers' expressions changed again: "Nani!?"

"Therefore, I banish 'Suijin', 'Jirai Gumo', 'Darkness Approaches', and 'Sacrificial Doll' from your Graveyard!" Jaden shouted.

The vortex of the Graveyard opened, and Suijin's phantom drifted out, instantly being dug up from the Underworld and sent to the far reaches of another dimension.

Incidentally, he also emptied all the cards in the opponent's Graveyard up to this point in one breath, digging the grave completely through.

In this way, "Monster Reincarnation" lost its target and became a wasted activation, and Labyrinth Brother (Older) lost two more cards from his hand for nothing.

A "tic-tac-toe" vein seemed to pop up on his bald head again.

Misawa's expression in the stands was complex.

"Uh, a very beautiful play, but..." He was somewhat hesitant.

Asuka: "You want to say it's a bit unlike his style, right?"

"It's not an illusion, it must be my illusion." Misawa shook his head, unwilling to talk more.

What else could he say?

Could he say that proximity to evil makes one evil?

However, to be fair, it was very interesting to see the two legendary duelists get frustrated and angry, and he was watching with great relish.

"To think you solved our brothers' two Gate Guardians so quickly, I must praise you a little," Labyrinth Brother (Older) said in a deep voice. "But if you think it will be that easy, you are underestimating us too much."

He looked at his younger brother beside him.

"I'll borrow your monster this time."

"No problem, Brother."

Labyrinth Brother (Older) shouted: "The effect of 'Kaiser Sea Horse' is that when this card is used as a Tribute for the Tribute Summon of a LIGHT monster, one can replace the weight of two Tributes.

Therefore, I will treat 'Kaiser Sea Horse' as two Tributes for a Tribute Summon!"

Kaiser Sea Horse seemed to manifest a clone, splitting into two on the field, each turning into a beam of light and sinking into the vortex that opened on the ground.

Bright light erupted, thunder and lightning surged, and the Gate Guardian with the golden "Thunder" character written on its chest appeared amidst a bolt of thunder from the sky.

"Kazejin-Sanga, Summon!!!"

【Kazejin-Sanga, ATK 2600】

"It's not over yet!" Labyrinth Brother (Older) shouted, "I'm going to continue borrowing your card!"

"Take it, Brother, don't be polite with your younger brother!" Labyrinth Brother (Younger) said.

Labyrinth Brother (Older): "I activate the set card left on the field by my brother, the Spell Card 'Dimension Fusion'!

Pay 2000 LP, and Special Summon as many monsters banished from the game as possible for both players!"

【Labyrinth Brothers, LP 8000 -> LP 6000】

The students outside the field were all shocked to hear this.

"Monsters banished from the game, isn't that...?"

"That's right, thanks to you, only our monsters are currently banished from the game, so only we can perform Special Summons!"

Labyrinth Brother (Older) laughed loudly.

"Return from the other dimension in one breath! Appear here!

Suijin!

Kazejin!"

The storms of wind and water erupted into the sky, and the two great Gate Guardians of green and blue appeared one after another! The air waves of the green whirlwind and the tsunami-like torrent, the three Gate Guardians each had the characters "Wind", "Water", and "Thunder" clearly printed on their chests, as if they had formed a three-colored barrier.

【Suijin, ATK 2500】

【Kazejin, ATK 2400】

The three Gate Guardians, summoned simultaneously!

A student couldn't help but say: "Summoned all three Gate Guardians in one breath!"

"As expected of legendary duelists, they are indeed not so easy to deal with," Misawa said in a deep voice. "It seems that angering them has only made their attacks more fierce."

Labyrinth Brother (Older): "Enter the Battle Phase!

First is 'Kazejin', attack that small-fry monster 'Ojama Yellow' acting as a wall!"

Kazejin crossed its palms. In an instant, dense dark clouds seemed to be projected over the field, like a dark and heavy sky. The wild wind howled, rolling up dust all over the sky, and the wind blades in the storm were like countless sharp blades cutting through the air, making a sharp whistling sound as they swept toward the set monster on the opposite field.

【Ojama Yellow, DEF 1000】

Poor Ojama Yellow, of course, had no ability to resist in front of the storm, and was smashed to pieces on the spot, exploding into golden light.

Fujiki You Xuan: "Activate set card, Trap Card 'Ojama Trio'! When an 'Ojama' monster on my side of the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, return that monster to the deck and shuffle!" (Anime Card)

The destroyed Ojama Yellow turned into a beam of golden light and flew back into the deck, and then the deck in the Duel Disk automatically shuffled itself.

The top two cards popped out automatically.

"And after that, draw two cards from the deck, then discard one card from my hand."

Fujiki You Xuan drew the cards, then picked one from his hand and discarded it to the Graveyard.

"The one I just discarded is the Spell Card 'Ojama Delta Hurricane'!"

A burst of golden light bloomed in the Graveyard zone of the Duel Disk, and the Spell Card automatically popped out again.

"The effect of 'Ojama Delta Hurricane' is that when this card is sent from the hand or field to the Graveyard, add one 'Ojama Green', 'Ojama Yellow', and 'Ojama Black' each from the deck to my hand."

Three more cards popped out automatically, and after he drew them into his hand, the deck automatically shuffled itself again.

"What's the point of getting so many small-fry monsters?" Labyrinth Brother (Older) didn't care, "The attack continues.

Use 'Suijin' to attack the monster you set on the field!"

This time, it was the monster Jaden had set that was hit. The set monster flipped over, revealing a fluffy little ball flapping its pure white wings.

"Kurikuri!"

【Winged Kuriboh, DEF 200】

The little Kuriboh was destroyed in the storm, but immediately released a milky white energy shield to protect the two of them inside.

Jaden: "The effect of Winged Kuriboh! The turn this card is destroyed, all battle damage I take becomes 0!"

"An ability to negate damage? In that case, continuing the attack is meaningless. Battle Phase end."

Labyrinth Brother (Older) raised his arm high.

"Then now, let you see our ultimate trump card!

Tribute 'Kazejin-Sanga', 'Kazejin-Huga', and 'Suijin' on the field!"

The three Gate Guardians were swallowed by pillars of thunder, wind, and water respectively, and the energy soared into the sky, merging into one under the command of the duelists.

"When the power of the three Gate Guardians merges into one, the power of the guardian of generations appears here! Appear, our brothers' trump card—

——Gate Guardian!"

The combination of the three Gate Guardians, with the characters "Thunder", "Wind", and "Water" printed on their chests and abdomens in order, the three-colored Gate Guardian descended with a roar, and the entire duel field seemed to tremble under the power of the Gate Guardian's descent!

【Gate Guardian, ATK 3750】

Gate Guardian, Summon!!!

(End of Chapter)
