Chapter 519: Dark Hero

"My turn, draw."

Judai drew a card, but didn't operate immediately, instead keeping his head down, as if deep in thought, or perhaps hesitating about something.

Teruhashi Zetsu mocked: "What, are you already afraid so soon? Hehe, then do you want to surrender now? Maybe I can make it easier for you."

Judai didn't respond.

"Judai."

Neos's figure floated out beside him again.

"Power itself has no distinction between justice and evil." Neos said. "The point is to use a righteous heart to control it."

"Neos..."

Judai turned his head and met his eyes, only to see his spirit nod and give him a thumbs-up.

Judai closed his eyes gently and smiled with relief.

"That's right. Power is just power after all, it still depends on the person using it... I understood that long ago. And I had already decided that no matter how heavy or dark the past is, I will carry it and continue to move forward."

He pressed the button of the card he had set in his back row.

"I activate my face-down card, the Spell Card—

—Dark Fusion!"

The face-down card flipped over. The spell released a massive dark vortex, releasing a shocking chaos, with thunder and lightning churning within it!

Teruhashi Zetsu: "!"

This card... such strong darkness!

Seeing this card, he seemed to understand instantly why this boy was worth so much attention from the Light of Destruction, and why he was the opposite of light, a presence that must be defeated no matter what.

"I fuse 'Elemental HERO Sparkman' and 'Elemental HERO Clayman' from my hand with dark power!"

Judai said.

"The hero who transformed into a demonic body to gain the power of protection, appear—

—Evil HERO Lightning Golem!"

The dense dark clouds were like the deepest ink in the sky, splashed at will. Pitch-black thunder tore through the sky, and black electric snakes intertwined like living things, as if pure darkness and lightning formed an indestructible body, the massive body like a pitch-black fortress calling for thunder.

Evil HERO Lightning Golem, Summon!

【Evil HERO Lightning Golem, ATK 2400】

"Lightning Golem... I've never heard of such a hero?"

Looking directly at this behemoth, the churning thunder and the suffocating pressure, Teruhashi Zetsu actually had the illusion that he couldn't breathe.

Even the boy he was facing released an aura like a dark giant, as if he were a superior looking down, making one feel terrified.

"Evil HERO Lightning Golem's effect: once per turn, destroy one monster on the field." Judai said. "Destroy one 'Swordsman of the White Knight Corps' on your field!"

The dark giant's right palm shot out, and the palm thunder turned into a dark current, immediately blowing one of the swordsmen into powder.

"Then, 'Evil HERO Lightning Golem' attacks!" Dark thunder gathered again, surging and erupting from the golem's palm!

Teruhashi Zetsu quickly recovered from the pressure of the Evil HERO's shock, shouting: "I activate my face-down card, the Trap Card 'Chaos Burst'! When the opponent's monster declares an attack, Tribute one monster on my field, destroy the opponent's attacking monster, and inflict damage to the opponent equal to the destroyed monster's ATK!" (Original effect)

This was also a trap that appeared in the GX anime, but it was weakened after being made into a physical card. The effect in the front was all consistent, but the final part about inflicting effect damage was changed to a fixed 1000 points of damage to the opponent, instead of based on the destroyed monster's ATK.

"I Tribute the second 'Swordsman of the White Knight Corps' on my field!" Teruhashi Zetsu sneered. "The demonic hero shall be destroyed immediately. Destroy 'Evil HERO Lightning Golem' and inflict 2400 points of damage to you, equal to its ATK!"

The second swordsman vanished as a Tribute, and the released energy filled the trap card like ammunition, turning into a golden stream of light that roared toward Lightning Golem!

But it was completely useless.

That overbearing stream of light hit Lightning Golem's chest squarely, but only washed over its indestructible steel armor, without leaving even half a trace.

"Nani!?" Teruhashi Zetsu was shocked.

"Dark Fusion's effect." Judai said. "Evil HEROes Special Summoned by the effect of Dark Fusion cannot be destroyed by the opponent's Spell or Trap effects this turn." (Original effect)

Although the physical Dark Fusion retained resistance, it was changed from destruction resistance to being unable to be targeted by the opponent's card effects, which had its own pros and cons.

"So I'm sorry, Chaos Burst is useless against Lightning Golem." Judai said. "Evil HERO Lightning Golem's attack continues.

Attack the last 'Swordsman of the White Knight Corps' on your field!"

Teruhashi Zetsu gritted his teeth.

The three swordsmen he summoned in one turn had already been reduced to the last one in the blink of an eye.

"Then the effect of 'Swordsman of the White Knight Corps'." Teruhashi Zetsu said. "If this card is in my graveyard, all monsters with 'White Knight Corps' in their name on the field gain 300 ATK."

He raised his Duel Disk, and golden light bloomed from the graveyard.

"Now I have two 'Swordsman of the White Knight Corps' in my graveyard, and their effects stack, so the ATK of the White Knights on the field increases by a total of 600!"

【Swordsman of the White Knight Corps, ATK 1200 → ATK 1800】

Of course, it was still far from being a match for Lightning Golem. Pitch-black lightning pierced its chest, and the swordsman's heart bloomed, a hole opened in its chest.

But this swordsman was truly tough, standing unsteadily even with its chest opened like that, and didn't disappear. The black lightning that pierced through it also hit a transparent white barrier, without harming Teruhashi Zetsu himself.

"At this moment, I banish 'White Knight Corps Guard' from my graveyard." Teruhashi Zetsu said. "When a monster with 'White Knight Corps' in its name on my field battles, I can banish 'White Knight Corps Guard' from my graveyard to make the battle damage inflicted by the White Knight Corps monster on the field 0, and it is not destroyed by battle."

Although the description of Manjoume's anime effect was only "battle damage becomes 0", it seemed that the monster wasn't destroyed when processed. Maybe it was just a descriptive omission, or maybe the concept of "battle destruction" was included in "battle damage" in that season of the anime.

"You caught Lightning Golem's attack, not bad." Judai smiled. "Then I'll set one card, turn end."

"My turn, draw."

If Teruhashi Zetsu didn't have a clear judgment of the target he was looking for when he came, he probably realized it completely now. No wonder this person was regarded as their number one enemy; he really didn't seem easy to deal with.

"Very good. Then this turn, I'll let you see the strongest White Knight!"
