Chapter 696: The Pain of Being Unable to Protect

"Wait for me, Yubel."

Yucheng Shidai also unfolded his Duel Disk and said seriously.

"We were separated once, and I didn't understand anything back then. But now, I won't let that happen again."

"Just like we agreed, we will never be separated again, ever."

"Duel!" x2

【Yucheng Shidai, LP 4000】

【Yubel, LP 4000】

"Then I'll go first."

Yubel said.

"My turn, draw a card."

Yubel drew a card, then directly revealed the card in her hand.

"Magic card 'Graceful Charity'. Draw three cards from the deck, then discard two cards from your hand."

Yubel discarded two cards from her hand into the graveyard.

"Then activate field magic - Mausoleum of the Emperor!"

The scene changed, and a burst of eerie black mist swallowed the entire area. After the thick mist faded, a long corridor appeared, leading straight to the throne ahead, with mud-sculpted soldiers in the pits on both sides.

"The effect of Mausoleum of the Emperor." Yubel said, "Pay 1000 life points, and you can replace the sacrifice required for a high-level summon." (Original effect)

The anime effect is that it only requires 1000 life points as an activation condition, and it can replace any number of sacrifices.

【Yubel, LP 4000 -> LP 3000】

"I paid 1000 life points, and I can replace the sacrifice for a high-level summon." Yubel shouted, "Use endless pain to condense into armor of thorns, now summon my own descent here—"

"—Yubel, summon!"

Two soldiers in the pit flew up and disintegrated into light spots in a burst of golden light. The light gathered and transformed into the posture of a demon. The wide black wings spread out, and the different-colored pupils shone with cold light in the darkness.

Yubel, summon!

【Yubel, Attack 0】

Just like a clone separated from the main body, even the eyes were as gloomy as the main body, as if there was endless pain to tell.

"Yubel..."

Yucheng Shidai had already recalled a little bit of the past life, and heard You Xuan say some things, and already knew that he and the spirit in front of him had an extraordinary oath. Seeing an old friend again at this moment, the two who swore to protect each other were now fighting with swords, and he felt a bit sad in his heart.

"Yucheng Shidai, do you know what is the most painful thing for a guardian?"

Yucheng Shidai was startled.

"What?"

"Clearly having someone who must be protected, something more important than one's own life, but not having the power to protect it."

Yubel's gloomy voice suddenly slowed down and said softly.

"In order to gain the power to protect, I didn't hesitate to pay any price, even my most precious thing." Yubel said, "That's why there is the current me, the birth of Yubel."

Yucheng Shidai remained silent.

In his mind, there were also memory fragments that seemed to come from several lifetimes ago. "Yubel, in order to protect the boy who possesses the correct dark power, you need power."

A vicissitudes voice sounded.

"But power comes with great pain. And this young and beautiful body of yours will also become an ugly image with two sides. Does it matter even if it's like this?"

"It doesn't matter."

A crisp voice sounded without hesitation.

"This is my mission, if it's to protect him, it doesn't matter what I become."

Yucheng Shidai was touched.

This is why Yubel became the current Yubel, and why she still turned into a spirit to accompany him after reincarnation...

"... Set three cards, turn end."

Yubel's voice pulled Yucheng Shidai back to reality.

"At the end of the turn, the 'Lotus of the Abyss' discarded by 'Graceful Charity' at the beginning, if it exists in the graveyard at the end of the turn, it can be special summoned to the field in attack position."

Yubel's golden partner, the green leaves bloomed on the field, opening a bright lotus flower.

(Author's note: Read every word without missing any!)

"And Yubel, I myself must explode if I don't sacrifice a monster at the end of the turn." Yubel said, "Use 'Lotus of the Abyss' as my own sacrifice to maintain my existence."

The Lotus of the Abyss disintegrated, and the light spots were absorbed into Yubel's body.

"Turn end." Yubel said, "Alright, it's your turn, Yucheng Shidai."

Yucheng Shidai shook his head, let himself focus back on the duel, and stopped thinking about the past life and the past.

"My turn, draw a card." Yucheng Shidai said, "Activate magic card 'Convert Contact'!

When there are no monsters on your field, select a 'Neo-Spacian' card from your hand and deck and send them to the graveyard, then draw two cards from the deck."

Yucheng Shidai drew a card from his hand, and a card was automatically searched and popped out from the deck. He drew both cards and sent them into the graveyard.

"Send two 'Neo-Spacians' to the graveyard, draw two cards!"

Then he slapped down a monster card.

"Summon 'Neo Space Connector'!"

A burst of starlight flashed in the starry sky above the Mausoleum of the Emperor, and a small Neo-Spacian warrior like a young girl descended from the sky. She had a pair of big blue eyes, the iconic blue crystal on her chest like a M78 civil servant, and red stripes on her silver-white body.

【Neo Space Connector, Attack 800】

"Neo Space Connector's first effect, when this card is successfully summoned, special summon a 'Neo-Spacian' or 'Elemental HERO Neos' from your hand or deck in defense position."

Another card popped out from Yucheng Shidai's deck. As he drew that card, it seemed that starlight flashed in the starry sky full of stars, and a white-hot light group descended from the sky, smashing to the ground with a bang, revealing the silver-white body of the Neo-Spacian hero.

Elemental HERO Neos, summon!

【Elemental HERO Neos, Defense 2000】

Neos landed and saw the situation on the field, turned his head and looked at Yucheng Shidai: "Today seems to be a formidable opponent."

Yucheng Shidai nodded: "Yeah. She is my friend, but now she is trapped in darkness. No matter what, I must save her. Neos, I need your power again."

"What are you talking about, we are one in heart and body, Yucheng Shidai." Neos said, "Just go ahead and use my power."

But Yubel on the opposite side didn't appreciate it at all, and instead said with a dark face and gloomily: "Oh, it seems that Yucheng Shidai has enough new lovers to replace my position during the time I was away, right? What is the relationship between you and Yucheng Shidai?"
