Chapter 14: Troll Tribe
Ten minutes later, Geralt had a smile on his face, weighing two fist-sized gold nuggets in his hand, feeling very happy in his heart.
Although the harpy's nest was full of rotting meat, bird droppings, and bones, and the smell was worse than a sewer, under the White Wolf's skillful searching, aside from these two gold nuggets and some coins, he also found two natural gems.
Wayne didn't choose those two gold nuggets that were more valuable but covered in unknown excrement, but took the two shiny gems.
This made Geralt look at him more favorably. As an old oil-slick who likes eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling, although he earns much more than ordinary people, he is not comparable to ordinary farmers when it comes to spending money.
Witchers engage in dirty and dangerous work every day, are discriminated against by many ignorant people, and are themselves mutants, so the psychological pressure is generally very high. In order to relieve their own pressure, almost every Witcher is a regular at taverns, brothels, and casinos.
The remuneration earned by risking their lives will be spent in a few days, and most of them will live in poverty, which is not strange.
And as a modern person, Wayne actually doesn't care about this little money. He has a flexible moral bottom line. In the future, as long as he is willing, whether it is robbing the rich to help the poor, or black-eating-black, or investing in business, the money earned will definitely not be comparable to doing Witcher commissions.
On the contrary, these brothers in the School of the Wolf, as well as other powerful Witchers, are what he cares about.
In this medieval magic era where the weak are the prey of the strong, only by mastering power and uniting those who have power can one resist danger and master one's own destiny.
Passing through the lake, the two walked along a mountain road and detoured toward the back mountain. After walking for another ten minutes, until a huge cave appeared vaguely, Geralt slowed down and said to Wayne behind him:
"Wayne, in the cave ahead, there is a cyclops. Many years ago, many Witcher apprentices died at the hands of this monster named Old Speartip."
Seeing Wayne's surprise, Geralt added:
"This is part of the final trial."
"Apprentices participating in the trial must find a way to pass through this cave guarded by the cyclops."
"Actually, cyclops are stupider than trolls, and they are also very clumsy in action. Their strength is very powerful, and most of the time they are sleeping in the cave."
"As long as the apprentices are quiet enough and don't make any sound, they can pass through the cave safely."
Wayne nodded, thought for a moment, and asked:
"Then this time, shall we kill this cyclops?"
Geralt paused, looked up at Wayne, deliberated for a few seconds, and said:
"Wayne, since we are going to team up to complete missions in the future, we should understand each other more."
"I have always believed that monsters with wisdom are the same as humans, and they are all intelligent creatures, not divided into high and low."
"As long as he doesn't endanger the safety of others, I won't actively hurt him."
"In this regard, I hope you can agree with my idea."
Seeing the White Wolf talking so frankly, Wayne also revealed a sincere smile and said:
"You know, Geralt, I am a half-elf myself, a non-human race, and now I have become an alien in the eyes of others, a Witcher."
"Rest assured, I am more accepting of other intelligent creatures than you think."
Geralt looked at Wayne deeply upon hearing this, nodded lightly, and then took out two bottles of White Raffard's Decoction from his waist bag, put one of them into Wayne's hand, and said:
"This is Cat potion, which can strengthen our dark vision and let us see things in the dark."
"Wait a minute, you just follow behind me, be careful, don't make any sound, we will sneak out of the cave quietly, don't wake up Old Speartip."
Wayne nodded. His agility was originally higher than that of ordinary Witchers. Like this kind of stealth mission, it couldn't stump him.
Soon, after drinking the Cat potion, the two walked into the cave one after another.
So many years have passed, Geralt seems to be quite familiar with the route in the cave. He took Wayne and moved forward slowly along the wall, sneaking in the dark for five or six minutes before climbing to another high ground through a platform.
And as they moved forward, a huge snoring sound kept hovering in the ears of the two, and as the distance they moved forward increased, it became louder and louder.
However, Geralt didn't pay attention to the source of these snoring sounds, but soon took Wayne along the wall and moved forward for another five minutes, finally finding the exit of the cave.
Before leaving the cave, out of curiosity, Wayne turned his head and looked toward the source of the snoring sound.
I saw an ugly giant with a body length of four or five meters, carrying a huge wooden club, lying on a flat ground, wearing only simple animal skins, one hand protecting his navel, one hand stuffed into his pocket, snoring comfortably, sleeping very soundly.
Seeing this scene, Wayne felt happy in his heart. Perhaps in the heart of this cyclops, those Witcher apprentices were the monsters who broke into his home and tried to hurt him.
Now, for decades, no new Witcher apprentices have come here, which allowed this guy to live a stable life.
After watching for a few seconds, Wayne followed Geralt out of the cave, and when his eyes adapted to the sunlight outside, a strange scene appeared before his eyes.
I saw on a flat ground a few dozen meters away from them, five strange creatures with tall bodies, all made of giant stones, were gathered around a large pot, eating food while playing and making trouble, and could even hear some strange singing, as if they were holding a celebration.
They were ugly and their movements were a bit slow. They were like drunk fat people, and the words they spoke, although stuttering and not very clear, could be determined to be human language.
Geralt, who was walking in front, turned to him and made a shushing gesture, and said in a low voice:
"This is a troll tribe. They belong to monsters that can barely communicate and are considered intelligent species."
"Wait a minute, don't talk nonsense, let me deal with them."
"These guys have lived here for over a hundred years and are quite familiar with us Witchers. Let's try not to have conflicts."
"They are numerous, and if we fight, we might get hurt."
