Chapter 15: Place of Power
Trolls are indeed quite clumsy. Wayne followed Geralt, and neither of them hid their figures, but until they approached within ten meters of this group of trolls, these guys finally noticed someone approaching them.
Among them, a troll with the largest body and green moss crawling on his stone armor held a wooden club and stirred the unknown food in the large pot. He was stunned for a few seconds before standing up and shouting to his companions:
"Witcher, two people, surround them."
Following this troll's shout, five strong trolls ran over from around and surrounded the two.
Seeing this, in order to prevent conflicts, Geralt immediately shouted to them:
"Hey! Don't be nervous, we are not here to fight."
The big troll who just shouted heard this, tilted his head and was stunned for a few seconds, didn't let his companions attack, but opened his mouth stutteringly and said:
"Witcher, kill monster, two people, troll six, not afraid of you."
Geralt raised his hands, indicating that he had no weapons in his hands, and then looked at the large pot that was steaming behind the trolls, saying:
"We are going to the Place of Power on the mountain, just passing by here, and won't disturb you."
However, the stupid brain circuits of these trolls could not be the same as ordinary people.
That big troll suddenly said:
"Here, troll's mountain, Witcher, can't go in."
"Unless, give us, toll."
Geralt heard the trolls' request and felt a headache for a while. He was silent for a few seconds and asked:
"What toll do you want? We are Witchers, you'd better be sensible and don't make excessive demands?"
The big troll shook his head, seemed to deliberate for a dozen seconds, and then said stutteringly:
"We, little troll, birth, celebration, want to eat meat."
"Give meat, lots of meat, and let you pass."
Hearing the trolls' request, Geralt immediately felt a headache. These trolls are tall and especially able to eat. Wanting to feed this group of big guys, it is not something that a wild boar can satisfy.
Moreover, trolls are famous for being stupid. If you don't agree to their request, there is only one way to pass, which is to kill them all.
Just when the White Wolf was having a headache, Wayne, who was behind him, reminded:
"Geralt, have you forgotten, just now those harpies we killed?"
"There are nearly twenty of them. Hand their corpses to these trolls, and these big guys will definitely be very satisfied."
Geralt's eyes lit up upon hearing this, turned his head and looked at Wayne with appreciation, and then said to the leading troll:
"I put a lot of meat in one place, you take a few trolls and go with me to move it back."
"There is a lot of meat there, enough for you all to eat until you are full."
Upon hearing that they could eat meat until they were full, the leading troll immediately drooled. He didn't have any suspicion and shouted to his companions:
"Follow Witcher, go get meat, come back, celebration."
And upon hearing the leader's shout, the few trolls who originally surrounded the two immediately raised their hands and cheered. The dancing appearance was like a group of children weighing several hundred kilograms.
After the two took these few trolls and walked for dozens of minutes on the mountain road, and moved those harpy corpses back from the river beach, time had unknowingly reached noon.
The stupid trolls were still relatively trustworthy. After getting those harpy corpses, they didn't even wash them, tore them into pieces, piled them by the pot, roasted or boiled them, and then sat by the campfire drooling, staring at the meat without moving.
The leading troll even enthusiastically invited the two to participate in their celebration.
Wayne and Geralt certainly couldn't participate in this kind of activity. They didn't stay in the troll tribe and went straight to the Place of Power on the mountain.
That was a ruin-like building. The city walls and the main body had long since disappeared, leaving only some broken walls and a flat ground paved with rubble. A rectangular altar of about ten square meters stood on that flat ground, near the cliff at the top of the mountain.
A primitive magic circle was carved in the center of the altar. Behind the magic circle was a rectangular stone table full of candles. Four iron torches containing special fuel stood at the four corners of the altar, and the overall look was quite ritualistic.
Wayne didn't know how to activate the School of the Wolf medallion in his hand, so he handed it to Geralt and asked:
"What should I do now?"
Geralt took the medallion, observed the wolf-head-shaped medallion for a few times, and while walking onto the altar, said:
"The Place of Power is a node where magic power gathers. They exist all over the world, but their power is strong or weak depending on the concentration of magic power gathering, and only those powerful mages can use them."
"We Witchers cannot sense the fluctuations of magic power, and what we can do is just use them to recharge magic items."
The White Wolf placed Wayne's medallion in the center of the stone table, then turned to beckon him and said:
"The magic circle here was carved by sorcerers during the Witcher Order period. It is quite simple for us to start this Place of Power."
"Just light the four torches around according to the order of the four elements: earth, air, water, and fire."
"You can complete it yourself using the Igni Sign."
Knowing the method to open the Place of Power, Wayne didn't push it and took a few steps to the center of the altar.
He first observed the patterns carved on the four torches, which were all very common element icons, representing the four elements in the magic world, and then followed the method taught by Geralt, lighting the four torches in turn with the Igni Sign.
The moment the four torches were all lit, even though Witchers couldn't sense the fluctuations of magic power, Wayne still sensed that some invisible power was gathering toward the School of the Wolf medallion on the stone table.
And at the same time, the system in Wayne's brain also issued a prompt sound.
High-concentration magic energy node detected, absorption can obtain three ability points.
Note: If you choose to absorb, it will permanently destroy this energy node and destroy its spatial structure, forming a dimensional rift. Please choose carefully.
Three ability points, permanently destroyed, dimensional rift.
Originally, hearing that he could obtain three ability points, Wayne was very excited, but when he heard the consequences of absorbing the magic energy here, he couldn't help but hesitate.
This is the Place of Power closest to Kaer Morhen, and the straight-line distance is actually less than 1 kilometer. It is a precious legacy left by sorcerers for Witchers during the Witcher Order period.
If he destroyed this place for the sake of the three ability points, not only would Kaer Morhen lose a powerful help forever, but he might also leave a troublesome mess because of the so-called dimensional rift.
Moreover, the White Wolf Geralt is by his side now. The movement of absorbing the magic node must be quite large. As long as he does this, it is simply catching him red-handed, and it might even make him turn against his companions in the School of the Wolf.
Weighing the pros and cons, Wayne sighed lightly. Even a rabbit doesn't eat the grass by its nest. He cannot ignore the consequences for the sake of a little immediate benefit.
Just as Geralt said, the Place of Power is scattered all over the world. As long as he puts his mind to finding them in the future, he will definitely be able to find other Places of Power.
