Chapter 10: Diligent Study

~7 min read 1,335 words

Arrival at the academy was already late at night.

The recruitment work lasted all day, and only after nightfall did the large aircraft take off.

During that time, Lin Ke and Mo Li also ate dinner delivered by an intelligent mechanical puppet; it was fragrant, sweet, and delicious.

After disembarking the aircraft, several unmanned vehicles were already waiting, clearly marked, requiring no manual guidance.

The boys and girls split up to board the vehicles, heading to their respective dormitory buildings.

Entering the dormitory required no further paperwork, nor did one need to bring bedding or other daily necessities; one could move in with just their luggage, and each person had a single room, no roommates needed.

The rooms had a two-bedroom, one-living-room, one-bathroom layout: the two rooms were a bedroom and a study, the living room was the hall, and the bathroom was a separated wet/dry facility.

Just after entering the dormitory, Lin Ke took a quick look around, got a rough idea of the room's condition, hadn't settled in yet, and the portable smart brain in his package began to vibrate.

Lin Ke hurriedly opened the package, took out the portable smart brain, and discovered it was a notice sent from the academy.

He opened it and was dumbfounded.

"Newblood Linke Grand from the Storm Sea Kuìtè Archipelago, congratulations on your official enrollment at the Ruòwòsuǒsī Biological and Medical College.

The journey of a wizard seeking knowledge and truth begins now.

The course schedule for the upcoming semester (sixteen weeks) will be sent to your portable smart brain; please arrange your personal time accordingly.

Dismissing the notice, the course schedule arrived immediately.

Lin Ke took a deep breath, opened the course schedule, and was even more dumbfounded.

This semester there are eight courses: "Brief History of Wizard Civilization," "Overview of Mental Power and Meditation," "Runology," "Essence, Origin and Development of Witchcraft," "Mathematics," "Botany," "Zoology," and "Human Biology."

There are four major classes each day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, with a very packed schedule.

As for the textbooks, Lin Ke had previously seen them on the bookshelf in his study.

From living to studying, the academy has basically prepared everything.

So starting the day after tomorrow, Lin Ke will enter a lifestyle of studying as hard as possible—if you don't die from studying, you push yourself to the limit.

After all, whether he becomes a person above others or just a beast of burden depends entirely on whether he can absorb and master his studies over these four years.

Time waits for no one; Lin Ke locked his portable smart brain, rushed to the bathroom for a quick shower, changed into the free pajamas provided by the academy from his bedroom closet, got into bed, and rested to refresh his spirit.

The next morning, with the sky just beginning to lighten, Lin Ke opened his eyes and woke up.

After attending to personal hygiene, he changed into the similarly free uniform provided by the academy, Lin Ke carried the textbooks for the first four classes—"Brief History of Wizard Civilization," "Overview of Mental Power and Meditation," "Runology," "Essence, Origin and Development of Witchcraft"—plus the pen and notebook he found in his study, and, following the portable smart brain's map navigation guidance, headed to the library.

Mo Li Kedman spent a whole day tinkering with the portable smart brain and still managed to achieve quite a few results.

Calendars, alarms, notes, map navigation, friend chats, file sharing, and so on were all uncovered by Mo Li one by one.

Girls, roughly speaking, tend to enjoy sharing.

So Lin Ke didn't need to figure it out himself; he also got to learn many uses of the portable smart brain.

Lying back and winning!

Lin Ke's dormitory building is relatively far from the library; walking takes about fifteen minutes, passing a cafeteria and a life-services building along the way.

In the cafeteria, using his ID he claimed a free hearty breakfast, found a seat and sat down; Lin Ke had just taken a sip of milk, the bread still untouched, when Mo Li sent him a message via the portable smart brain's friend system.

"Lin Ke, are you up? What are you planning to do today? Want to wander around the academy?"

Lin Ke replied coldly: "What's there to wander about? Study! Classes start tomorrow—have you previewed the textbooks? What if you can't understand the lecturer?"

"Ah… I hadn't thought about those things."

Lin Ke: "Heh. I'm eating breakfast in the cafeteria, then heading to the library later. I advise you to also preview the textbooks in advance. Remember, we only have four years!!!"

After replying to that message, Lin Ke locked his portable smart brain and focused on his meal.

After filling his stomach, ignoring the several messages Mo Li had sent in succession, Lin Ke hurried to the library, found a seat by the window in the west reading room on the first floor, shared his location with Mo Li, and then began reading seriously.

"Brief History of Wizard Civilization" is about as thick as a thumb.

Starting from the appearance of humanity's first official wizard over seven thousand eight hundred years ago, to humans uniting under wizard leadership to defeat the powerful monster tribes and truly become masters of the world, then to the emergence of a sage surpassing the ninth-level wizard grand master, then to the wizard world, under the leadership of nine sages, dominating the myriad heavenly seas, then to the wizard world waging war with the godly world that likewise dominated a realm of heavenly seas, directly shattering both worlds, and finally, after the war, the five surviving sages condensed some world fragments into the main continent, while the other fragments scattered across the four seas, becoming large and small islands……

Any event that had a certain impact on the wizard world is recorded in the book.

Moreover, for certain events with major and far-reaching impact, the book elaborates extensively, reconstructing the truth from various angles and adding analysis.

Lin Ke hastily flipped through the book from start to finish without examining it closely, and decided that whenever he had time he would definitely study those histories thoroughly based on the chronicle in "Brief History of Wizard Civilization."

Knowing the past helps discern the present; reading history makes one wise.

After a rough read-through, Lin Ke turned to chapter one and began reading again.

This time he carefully chewed over each word and sentence, occasionally noting his reflections or questions in his notebook.

The memory palace merely lets Lin Ke never forget what he sees, but remembering does not equal understanding.

Writing down insights by hand and taking notes helps better digest knowledge.

Because of the highest level of the "Brain Seal Technique," Lin Ke's mind is clear and free of distractions; when reading he is fully immersed, so he didn't notice Mo Li coming by midway.

After greeting him several times with no reply, Mo Li initially felt a little annoyed, but then inexplicably felt influenced and also began earnestly previewing her coursework.

Until both of their stomachs began growling in protest.

The two lifted their heads and glanced at each other.

Lin Ke was fine, but Mo Li's face flushed red with embarrassment.

Girls always care more about their image.

"Let's go eat."

Fortunately, Lin Ke's timely greeting dispelled the awkward atmosphere.

Mo Li lowered her head to tidy her books, adjusted her mindset, and then went to the cafeteria with Lin Ke as if nothing had happened.

After lunch, Mo Li still felt like wandering around the academy; having watched an introductory video of the academy the previous day, she had become interested in many places.

After Lin Ke again refused her invitation, not knowing whether it was due to aloofness or some other thought, Mo Li chose to part ways with him and go exploring on her own.

Lin Ke, meanwhile, plunged into the library and buried himself in diligent study.
