Chapter 8

~7 min read 1,307 words

The dock is shaped like a convex character.

The long shade canopy is the dividing line; the front is small, the back is large.

Lin Ke had just walked to the back of the shade canopy when he was slightly startled by the sight before him.

Dozens of large aircraft, resembling chubby Y-20s, were lined up in a row parked on the open ground, their rear facing the shade canopy, with their rear hatches open to the ground.

This formation, this posture, this momentum……

Just one word: shocking!

Above the aircraft, the names and emblems of various wizard organizations floated in the air, making them easy to distinguish; no need to worry about getting lost.

"Lin Ke, over here."

Mo Li stood by the rear hatch of the large aircraft of the Revosith Biological and Medical College, waving at Lin Ke from afar.

She stood tall and graceful, her smile serene, tilting her head slightly as she waved, making her look even more charming and lovely.

"Tsk…"

Lin Ke smacked his lips, feeling that since Mo Li decided to enter the Revosith Biological and Medical College, she had begun, intentionally or not, to charm him.

If he truly were an inexperienced blacksmith's son, he would eventually fall at Mo Li's feet.

By then, he might end up being exploited like harvested chives, willingly driven without complaint, and even offer up his own resources with both hands.

"Um…"

Lin Ke admitted to thinking that way, which made him seem a bit dark-minded.

But while one should not harbor ill intent toward others, one must not lack vigilance; Lin Ke did not shy away from guessing human nature with the worst possible malice.

"Here we come."

Setting aside what he thought in his heart, Lin Ke also waved back at Mo Li, quickly walked a few steps, and came to her side.

"They've all gone up; I'm waiting here for you together—I'm a little scared on my own."

When Lin Ke approached, Mo Li broke into a bright smile and said in a sweet voice, "Now that you're here, I'm not afraid."

"Ah…"

Lin Ke opened his mouth, momentarily unsure how to respond to this sudden straightforward remark.

This approach is a bit crude—no emotional foundation at all, just charging straight in like that?

Lin Ke didn't quite understand what kind of tactic this was, so he simply chose not to respond.

"Let's go up too."

This time Lin Ke avoided any physical contact with Mo Li and went straight aboard.

Mo Li blinked, somewhat surprised.

She wondered if she had done something inadequate just now, why she felt Lin Ke was deliberately keeping his distance from her.

After thinking it over with no result, Mo Li let it go, closely followed Lin Ke's steps, and boarded the aircraft.

At the aircraft cabin door sat a staff member wearing the same uniform as the recruitment personnel.

On his left was a device similar to a tablet, on his right a square black box, and above his head floated a white body with a glass lens.

"Name?"

The staff member's voice was indifferent, devoid of any emotion.

"Linke Grand."

"Um… the aptitude is fourth-class, not bad."

The staff member tapped a few times on the tablet, muttered to himself, then pointed to a spot about two meters ahead of him, drawing a white short line, and said, "Stand straight there, look forward, don't blink, don't move."

Lin Ke obediently followed the instructions.

With a click.

The glass lens of the white device hovering above the staff member's head emitted a flash.

"Take a photo?"

Lin Ke increasingly felt how profound the wisdom contained in the eight characters 'Great Dao shares the same origin, different paths lead to the same goal' was.

As of now, what Lin Ke has witnessed includes unmanned vehicles, all-metal ocean-going ships, handheld terminals, artificial intelligence, a complete lighting system, aviation flight, and the Internet.

Fact proves that the advanced wizard civilization is in no way behind in ignorance.

Perhaps the means of realization differ, but the results presented are no different from Lin Ke's past technological civilization, and may even be far ahead in many fields.

So seeing now a drone with photo and video capabilities, Lin Ke is not at all surprised.

"Come over, place both hands on it."

The staff member pointed to the palmprint and fingerprint integrated scanning screen on the tabletop.

Lin Ke then did as instructed.

The scanning screen emitted a blue light, scanning back and forth several times, recording Lin Ke's palmprints and fingerprints into the database.

The square black box then activated, making a few creaking noises, opened a slot below, and spat out an identification about half the size of a palm.

At the center of the top of the identification is the emblem of the Revosith Biological and Medical College, with the college's full name located beneath the emblem.

In the middle is a half-body photo of Lin Ke.

Below are the name "Linke Grand" and the apprentice number "201140048".

"All right, go in and find a seat."

The staff member picked up the identification, handed it to Lin Ke, and instructed casually.

"Thank you."

Lin Ke bowed respectfully to the staff member.

There's no such thing as being too polite, especially since he is in a wizard world where power resides within oneself; after reflecting a few days ago, Lin Ke has always maintained a humble attitude.

Perhaps this won't bring any benefit, but it can at least reduce some unnecessary hostility or even enmity.

Lin Ke entered the cabin door, waited a moment in the aisle, then after Mo Li also registered her information and received her documents, they went together to find a seat.

After all, we come from the same place; there's no need to distance ourselves over our own true or false speculation.

Just get along normally.

Private compartments line both sides of the aisle, some for two people, some for four.

Lin Ke and Mo Li discussed briefly and chose an empty two-person compartment.

Sitting on the soft, comfortable seats that could be reclined or sat upright, Mo Li fell silent for a moment, then suddenly sighed: "I feel like I'm dreaming right now."

"Actually, even if you don't say it, I know I've been spoiled since childhood, my living conditions are far better than yours. But compared to the wizards of the Mainland, those conditions are as different as between a savage slave and a noble."

As she spoke, the expression on Mo Li's face grew complicated,

"I feel like I'm a savage slave who has stumbled into the wizards' world, ignorant and terrified!"

Mo Li said this, turned sideways, stared hard into Lin Ke's eyes, and asked seriously: "Lin Ke, why is it that many things I and Jimni cannot accept at once don't surprise you at all? This doesn't seem like the reaction of someone with limited experience, a blacksmith's son. Can you tell me the reason?"

A black person question mark face. jpg instantly appeared in Lin Ke's mind.

"Sis, what's wrong with you?"

"First came a straight pitch, now a soul-searching question?"

"Actually, our relationship isn't that close either; at most we're just old acquaintances who happened to meet."

"Is this the question you should be asking?"

Lin Ke wasn't panicked either; the Brain Seal Technique ran, his emotions simulated perfectly, and he calmly replied: "Isn't everything a wizard does just a matter of course? What's there to be surprised about?"

After a pause, Lin Ke continued: "My family can only forge one qualified sword a month, but Viscount Holldi's troops never lack weapons. Since I was young, I've known that what important figures can accomplish doesn't need to be doubted by my own eyes."

"Just explain it like that; believe it or not."
