Chapter 167: Breaking Out of the Ghost Market

~8 min read 1,437 words

"Interesting."

Jiangnan narrowed his eyes slightly, yet his face showed no hint of fear. Ghost Matchmaker let out a grim smile and said coldly:

"Young man, these are the Hundred Ghosts I forged; today I'll let you taste their power!"

"Go, tear him apart!"

For a moment, a howling wind roared, ghostly wails and wolf cries filled the air, and the entire Yin Yuan Pavilion seemed to become a mortal furnace.

"Insect Carving Minor Technique." Jiangnan snorted coldly, forming seals with both hands.

A golden light burst from his body, instantly illuminating the whole Yin Yuan Pavilion.

Wherever the golden light touched, the ghosts let out mournful shrieks and turned into wisp of blue smoke that vanished.

"Is this… a Daoist divine skill?"

Ghost Matchmaker widened her eyes in terror.

"Now, do you have anything to say?"

"I…"

Ghost Matchmaker's face turned pale, her body trembled, and fear filled her eyes.

She never expected Jiangnan to be so powerful; even the Hundred Ghosts she forged were no match.

"Release them."

Jiangnan spoke again, his voice bearing undeniable authority.

"I release, I release…" Ghost Matchmaker hurriedly nodded,

"Attendants, bring Ye Wan out."

Soon, two maidservants led a woman who was unconscious out.

The woman was Ye Wan.

"Ye Wan!"

Yun Yubing rushed over and supported Ye Wan.

"What… is this with her?"

"She just fainted; there should be no serious injury."

Jiangnan's tone was flat; after a quick glance, he said directly:

"We leave."

"Wait."

Ghost Matchmaker suddenly spoke; Jiangnan turned his head, his gaze icy.

"What, you still want to block me?"

"No, I wouldn't dare." Ghost Matchmaker shook her head quickly,

"It's just… this young master, could you tell us your full name?"

"Jiangnan."

Jiangnan left those two characters, and departed the Yin Yuan Pavilion with Yun Yubing and Ye Wan.

Ghost Matchmaker watched the three's departing backs, a hint of gloom flashing in her eyes.

"Jiangnan… I remember you." Ghost Matchmaker murmured to herself.

"Master of the pavilion, are we just letting them go?" a maid asked.

"And if not?" Ghost Matchmaker snorted coldly, "This one's strength is unfathomable; we are no match."

"Then… what about Ye Wan? She's prime material for an underworld marriage."

The maid asked resentfully,

"Hmph, just Ye Wan; if she's gone, she's gone."

A flash of ruthlessness crossed Ghost Matchmaker's eyes,

"But Jiangnan, I will make him pay!"

……

The three had just stepped out of the Yin Yuan Pavilion when a chilling aura slammed into them.

Somewhere around them, a circle of Black-clothed Men had already surrounded them.

These people exuded a strong killing aura, clearly not benevolent.

The leader was towering, with a stern face and eyes sharp as a hawk's.

"Jiangnan, you broke the rules." The voice was low, full of pressure.

Yun Yubing's heart tightened; who was this person?

"Oh? Which rule did I break?"

Jiangnan lifted his eyebrows slightly, retorting.

"The Ghost Market has its own rules; you forcibly took Ye Wan, that broke the rules."

"Rules?" Jiangnan sneered coldly,

"I only know that my friends cannot be touched by anyone."

"So you intend to oppose the Ghost Market?"

"Oppose the Ghost Market? You, you cannot represent the Ghost Market."

"Arrogant!"

The leader roared, "Take him down!"

Before the words finished, the surrounding Black-clothed Men surged toward Jiangnan like a tide.

Yun Yubing's complexion turned deathly pale; these people were clearly not ordinary.

She tightly grasped Ye Wan, her heart filled with fear.

Jiangnan shielded Yun Yubing behind him, his gaze icy.

"Seek death!" Jiangnan snarled low, his body shifting.

In an instant he appeared before a black-clothed man and unleashed a punch.

The black-clothed man hadn't even reacted before being sent flying by a punch.

"Bang!" The black-clothed man slammed into the wall, spat blood, and lost consciousness.

Seeing this, the remaining black-clothed men drew their weapons and charged at Jiangnan.

Blade light and sword shadows filled the air, killing intent surging.

Jiangnan showed no fear, his form flitting like a ghost through the crowd.

Every time he struck, a black-clothed man fell.

Yun Yubing stared, dumbfounded, wondering if this was still the Jiangnan she knew.

He seemed like a completely different person, terrifyingly strong. A black-clothed man shouted.

"General Lie, this person's strength is not ordinary—let's attack together!"

"Good!"

General Lie nodded, a hint of gravity flashing in his eyes.

General Lie joined the battle, his long blade waving, blade light flickering.

The remaining black-clothed men also unleashed their secret techniques; for a moment, vigorous qi crisscrossed.

Jiangnan fought many alone, yet did not fall behind in the slightest.

His form was elusive, each strike landing just right.

General Lie grew more astonished the longer they fought; Jiangnan's strength far exceeded his expectations.

"This can't go on!" General Lie thought.

He feinted a move, then suddenly attacked Yun Yubing.

Jiangnan's eyes narrowed; General Lie was extremely fast, arriving before Yun Yubing in the blink of an eye.

The long blade brought a cold light, thrusting straight at Yun Yubing's throat—this strike was both swift and vicious.

Yun Yubing's eyes widened; the aura of death washed over her, she didn't even have time to scream.

"Be careful!" Jiangnan roared; at the critical moment, he employed his movement technique, instantly appearing before Yun Yubing.

"Plop!" The blade pierced flesh, the sound rang out; Yun Yubing's pupils contracted sharply, her heartbeat seeming to stop.

"Jiangnan!" Yun Yubing cried out, tears spilling from her eyes.

General Lie landed the hit, a feral grin spreading across his face: "Die!"

He was about to draw his blade, but found the long blade as if clamped by iron tongs, unable to pull it out.

Jiangnan gripped the blade with one hand, fresh blood flowing along the edge and dripping to the ground.

"You…… " General Lie stared at Jiangnan in shock, his eyes full of disbelief.

This strike could pierce steel plates, yet Jiangnan caught it barehanded.

"You deserve to die!" Jiangnan's voice ice-cold, killing intent boiling in his eyes.

A terrifying aura burst from Jiangnan, the surrounding air seeming to solidify.

General Lie's face turned deathly pale, his body trembling uncontrollably; this aura made him feel suffocated.

"Crack!" With a sharp sound, the long blade was snapped in two by Jiangnan's bare hands.

General Lie stared in horror; this was a fine steel treasure blade, yet Jiangnan snapped it barehanded.

What monster is he?

Jiangnan casually tossed the broken blade to the ground and stepped step by step toward General Lie.

Each step felt like stepping on General Lie's heart, making him tremble with fear.

"What…… what do you want to do?" General Lie's voice trembled, his eyes full of fear.

"Kill you!" Jiangnan's voice ice-cold, devoid of any emotion.

Before his words even faded, Jiangnan thrust out a palm, true qi surging, palm wind howling.

General Lie's pupils contracted sharply; this palm, he could not evade.

"No!" General Lie howled in despair, his eyes full of regret.

"Thud!" With a muffled bang, General Lie's chest caved in and he was flung backward.

"Pfft!" General Lie spat a mouthful of blood, his body slamming heavily to the ground.

He struggled to rise, but discovered his bones were completely shattered, unable to move.

"You…… you can't kill me…… " General Lie's eyes filled with terror, "I am a person of the Ghost Market…"

"Ghost Market?" Jiangnan sneered, "I said, no one can save you."

Jiangnan slowly raised his hand, true qi condensing in his palm, emitting a dangerous aura.

"No…… don't…… " General Lie shouted in terror, his eyes full of despair.

"Bang!" With a tremendous boom, General Lie's head exploded like a watermelon, red and white matter splattering everywhere.

The surrounding black-clothed men were scared witless, each standing frozen like a wooden chicken, trembling all over.

They had never seen such a terrifying scene—General Lie, actually blasted apart by a single palm?

Is this even human? He's practically a devil!

"Scram!" Jiangnan coldly swept his gaze over the black-clothed men, his voice like that from hell.

The black-clothed men, as if waking from a dream, scrambled away in panic, fearing that if they lagged even a step, they would share General Lie's fate.

In the blink of an eye, outside Shady Fate Pavilion only Jiangnan, Yun Yubing, and the unconscious Ye Wan remained.

"Jiangnan, you… are you okay?" Yun Yubing's voice trembled, her eyes full of worry.

She looked at the blood‑soaked wound on Jiangnan's hand, her heart aching.

"I'm fine." Jiangnan shook his head; this wound meant nothing to him.

"Let's leave here first."

Yun Yubing nodded, followed Jiangnan, and the three swaggered away from the Ghost Market.
