Chapter 181: Ye Wan's Information

~7 min read 1,203 words

Ye Wan's eyes were swollen with tears, her voice choked:

"Why won't you let me die?"

"I'd rather die with my family than live like this!"

She was emotionally agitated, tears bursting forth.

Jiangnan frowned slightly, reaching out to gently wipe the tears from her cheeks.

"Don't be foolish; only by living is there hope."

His tone was gentle, his eyes holding a hint of pity.

"The Ye Family Massacre Case—I will help you investigate it thoroughly."

"What you need to do now is simply to live well."

Ye Wan lifted her head, a glimmer of hope flashing in her eyes.

"Really... really?"

"Mm."

Jiangnan nodded, his tone firm.

"Believe me, I will give you an answer."

Ye Wan bit her lip, nodded firmly, a warm current surging in her heart.

"Thank you, Jiangnan."

Her voice trembled slightly, her eyes full of gratitude.

"Now, can you tell me what you still remember?"

Jiangnan shifted the conversation, his eyes turning sharp.

"Regarding the Ye Family Massacre, do you have any clues?"

Ye Wan startled, straining to recall, a flash of pain crossing her eyes.

"I... I can't quite remember."

She shook her head, her face pale.

"I only remember that night was very dark, very frightening."

"I heard screams, saw the firelight, and then... then I passed out."

Jiangnan narrowed his eyes slightly, thinking.

The information Ye Wan provided was too little, almost worthless.

"Think again, is there anything special?"

His voice was low, with a hint of guidance.

"For example, did you see anyone? Or hear any sounds?"

Ye Wan closed her eyes, straining to remember, brows furrowed.

Suddenly, her body trembled, a flash of terror in her eyes.

"I... I remember!"

Her voice trembled, her face even paler.

"I remembered what?"

Jiangnan pressed on, his eyes flashing with anticipation.

"I saw... I saw a black shadow!"

Ye Wan's voice carried a hint of fear, her body trembling slightly.

"That black shadow was tall and terrifying!"

"He... he was holding a knife, a very long knife!"

"On the blade... on the blade was still dripping blood!"

She seemed to be trapped in a horrible memory, her body trembling even more violently.

Jiangnan's brows knit tightly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

"Black shadow? Long blade?"

"This information seems to point in a direction."

"Do you still remember, did that black shadow have any distinguishing features?"

Jiangnan's voice low, he continued questioning.

"I... I couldn't see clearly."

Ye Wan shook her head, her eyes full of fear.

"It was too dark; I only saw a silhouette."

"But... but I heard him speak!"

"He spoke?"

Jiangnan's eyes lit up, a surge of hope rising in his heart.

"What did he say?"

"He... he said..."

Ye Wan's voice trembled, as if she could hardly speak.

"What did he say? Don't be afraid, tell me!"

Jiangnan's tone was firm, with a hint of encouragement.

"He said... 'Cut the grass but don't remove the roots, the spring wind blows and it grows again!'"

Ye Wan finally spoke, her voice carrying a hint of despair.

"Cut the grass without removing the roots, and the spring wind makes it grow again…."

Jiangnan muttered to himself, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

He had heard that line before, and more than once!

That phrase is the emblem of the Shadow organization!

Could the Ye family's annihilation be linked to that mysterious organization?

A surge of anger rose in Jiangnan's heart, and his gaze turned icy.

If that's true, he would never let them go!

"Jiangnan, you… do you know who did it?"

Ye Wan looked at Jiangnan, a hint of expectation in her eyes.

"I think I have some clues."

Jiangnan's voice was low, his tone carrying a trace of murderous intent.

"But further investigation is still needed."

"Rest assured, I will definitely find the real culprit and avenge the Ye family!"

Ye Wan nodded vigorously, her eyes full of gratitude and trust.

"Thank you, Jiangnan, I believe in you!"

Jiangnan said nothing, turning to look out the window, his gaze profound.

The game seemed to be getting more and more interesting.

He wanted to see just how powerful the Shadow organization truly is! And what role Zhao Wuji plays within it?

Jiangnan silently vowed in his heart to uproot them completely!

Ye Wan watched Jiangnan's silhouette, a sense of security rising in her heart.

She knew that with Jiangnan present, she need not fear.

She believed Jiangnan would certainly restore justice for her and the Ye family!

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, inside a luxurious villa.

Zhao Wuji sat in the spacious Boss Chair, his fingertips lightly tapping the rosewood tabletop.

His gaze was sinister, a playful curl at the corner of his mouth: "Give Jiangnan a little fun."

"Understood," the subordinate standing nearby grasped the meaning and turned away at once.

A moment later, a courier car bearing the "Speedy Delivery" logo stopped outside Jiangnan Villa.

The car's body was brand‑new, reflecting a dazzling glare in the sunlight, starkly out of place with its surroundings.

"Dong dong dong!" The courier knocked on the door, his voice loud: "Hello, a delivery!"

Inside, Jiangnan frowned slightly; he hadn't ordered anything online, so where did the delivery come from?

"I'll get it." Ye Wan rose to open the door, but Jiangnan stopped her.

"Don't move." Jiangnan's voice was low; he sensed something amiss.

"What?" Ye Wan asked, confusion in her eyes.

"This delivery is suspicious," Jiangnan said, his gaze sharp as if he could see through everything.

Ye Wan was startled, unease rising in her heart: "Then… what should we do?"

"I'll check." Jiangnan stood and walked toward the door, his steps steady.

Ye Wan watched Jiangnan's back, an inexplicable nervousness swelling inside her as she followed closely behind.

Jiangnan opened the door to see a courier in uniform standing at the entrance.

The courier wore a professional smile, cradling an exquisite box in his hands.

"Hello, please sign for it," the courier handed over the box politely.

Jiangnan didn't reach out; his eyes burned like torches, scanning the courier up and down.

"Who sent it?" Jiangnan asked coldly, with a hint of scrutiny.

"This… the sender didn't write a name," the courier's eyes flickered, a bit flustered.

A cold sneer formed in Jiangnan's mind; as expected, there was a problem, and he remained composed, continuing his observation.

"Please, just sign for it," the courier urged, a thin sweat beading on his forehead.

"I won't sign; you can leave," Jiangnan said calmly, his tone bearing unquestionable authority.

"..." The courier's complexion changed, apparently not expecting Jiangnan to refuse.

"What? Unwilling to leave?" Jiangnan's gaze chilled, an invisible pressure enveloping the surroundings.

The courier's body trembled, feeling a cold current surge from his feet straight to his head.

He forced composure: "Sir, this is your delivery; you must sign for it."

"Oh? Is that so?" Jiangnan's mouth twitched upward, revealing a playful smile.

He lunged, grabbing the courier's wrist in one swift motion.

"Ah!" The courier shrieked, the box in his hand dropping to the ground with a dull thud.

"You… what are you trying to do?" the courier's face turned deathly pale, staring at Jiangnan in terror.
