Chapter 182: – Gift
"Open the box," Jiangnan said abruptly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
"What?" the courier was startled, as if he hadn't heard clearly.
"I told you to open the box!" Jiangnan repeated, raising his voice a few notches.
The courier's body trembled, a flash of panic crossing his eyes:
"This... this is your delivery; you should be the one to open it."
"What's the matter, scared?" Jiangnan's mouth twitched upward, a hint of mockery in his gaze.
"I..." the courier stammered, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
"Or perhaps there's something unsavory inside?" Jiangnan pressed on, his eyes growing sharper.
The courier's face turned deathly pale, his lips trembling, unable to speak.
"It seems I've hit the mark," Jiangnan sneered, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
"Since you dare not, I'll do it," Jiangnan bent down, preparing to pick up the box.
"No... don't!" the courier shouted suddenly, fear tinging his voice.
He tried to stop Jiangnan, but it was already too late.
Jiangnan had already lifted the box, a resolute flash in his eyes.
He was eager to see what exactly was inside the box!
"You... you'll regret this!" the courier's eyes were desperate, his body trembling slightly.
"Regret?" Jiangnan sneered, "I never do anything I would regret!"
He forcefully tore open **, the box opened, and inside was a...
"Careful!" Ye Wan cried, her voice full of worry.
She tried to rush forward, but an invisible force blocked her, rendering her immobile.
The courier shut his eyes, unwilling to look, his body trembling even more violently.
Time seemed to stand still, tension thickening the air.
A moment later, the expected explosion never occurred.
The courier slowly opened his eyes, only to see Jiangnan holding a broken bomb...
"What is this?" Ye Wan asked, a hint of confusion in her gaze.
Jiangnan said nothing, his eyes complex, as if pondering something.
"Are you... okay?" the courier asked cautiously, a trace of probing in his voice.
Jiangnan snapped back, his gaze steady: "I'm fine."
"This... can't be!" the courier exclaimed, disbelief flooding his eyes.
"Nothing is impossible," Jiangnan said calmly, as if everything were under his control.
"Who... who exactly are you?" the courier asked tremblingly, fear filling his gaze.
"You don't need to know," Jiangnan replied coldly, a murderous glint flashing in his eyes.
The courier's body shivered, a wave of cold enveloping him; he dared not speak further and turned to run.
"Want to run?" Jiangnan sneered, his figure flashing, vanishing in an instant.
The next second, he was already in front of the courier, blocking the way.
"What... what do you want?" the courier cried out in terror, his voice tinged with sobbing.
"Tell me, who sent you?" Jiangnan's voice was icy, his gaze heavy with oppression.
"I... I can't say," the courier shook his head, fear evident in his eyes.
"Can't say?" Jiangnan sneered, "Do you think I'd believe you?"
He reached out, clamped the courier's throat, and lifted him up.
"Speak, who sent you?" Jiangnan's voice deepened, murderous intent swirling in his eyes.
"I... I will..." the courier gasped, his face flushing red, speaking haltingly.
"It's... it's Zhao... Zhao..." he strained to utter the name, but couldn't finish.
"Zhao Wuji?" Jiangnan narrowed his eyes, a chill in his voice.
The courier remained silent, surprise flashing in his eyes, as if he hadn't expected Jiangnan to know.
"So it was him after all," Jiangnan sneered, murderous intent deepening.
"How... how do you know?" the courier managed to speak, his voice full of doubt.
"Whether I know or not is irrelevant," Jiangnan said coldly,
"The important thing is, I've recorded this debt. Get out!"
Jiangnan released his grip, his gaze calm, as if he had done something trivial.
"Jiangnan, you..." Ye Wan approached, her gaze complex, about to speak but holding back.
"Are you okay?" Jiangnan asked Ye Wan, a hint of concern in his eyes.
"I'm fine," Ye Wan shook her head, a trace of worry flashing in her eyes.
Back at the villa, Jiangnan placed the box on the table, his gaze deep.
"What exactly do they mean?"
Ye Wan, curious, couldn't help but ask.
"A warning," Jiangnan said, his voice low, a hint of gravity in his tone.
"Warning?" Ye Wan was puzzled, confusion filling her eyes.
"Zhao Wuji is warning me," Jiangnan explained, a cold glint in his eyes.
"Why would he warn you?" Ye Wan asked, even more confused, unease rising in her heart.
"Because I blocked his path." Jiangnan's voice was cold, with a hint of murderous intent.
"Blocked his path?" Ye Wan was startled, as if she understood something.
"Is the Ye family's extermination related to him?"
"Then... what should we do?"
Ye Wan was frantic, her voice tinged with a hint of sobbing.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Jiangnan comforted, his eyes filled with resolve.
"I will protect you, and avenge the Ye family!" his voice rang powerfully, brimming with confidence.
Ye Wan looked at Jiangnan, her gaze full of gratitude and trust.
She knew Jiangnan would keep his word.
"Thank you, Jiangnan." her voice choked, tears welling in her eyes.
"Fool, why thank me?" Jiangnan reached out, gently wiping the tears from her corner of the eye.
"We're friends, aren't we?" his voice was gentle, his eyes full of indulgence.
"Mm." Ye Wan nodded vigorously, a warm current rising in her heart.
"Alright, stop crying." Jiangnan whispered soothingly, "We have more important matters to attend to."
"What matter?" Ye Wan dried her tears, her gaze bearing a hint of doubt.
"Investigate the truth." Jiangnan's voice was low, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
"Zhao Wuji, since you dared to act, you must also dare to bear the consequences!" He silently swore in his heart to bring Zhao Wuji to justice!
"But how should we investigate?" Ye Wan frowned, her eyes full of worry.
"Zhao Wuji's power is massive; we are nowhere near his match." Her voice was low, tinged with a hint of helplessness.
"Don't worry, I have a way." Jiangnan smiled confidently, a sly glint in his eyes.
"What way?" Ye Wan asked curiously, her gaze full of anticipation.
"You'll find out soon." Jiangnan gave a mysterious smile, offering no direct answer.
He turned, walked to the window, gazing at the night outside, his eyes profound.
This game has only just begun.
"Zhao Wuji, are you ready?"
Jiangnan's mouth twitched slightly, revealing a playful smile.
As the saying goes, to come without return is impolite,
Since you took the initiative, I have no need to keep hiding any longer.
However...
Zhao Wuji is merely a superficial pawn; Jiangnan has already guessed that the person behind Zhao Wuji is, most likely, the Shadow organization.
At that moment, Jiangnan's phone suddenly rang.
He picked it up and saw it was Caili, whom he hadn't heard from in many days.
