Chapter 34: Ningning, I'm Late Again
Jiangnan sneered, and the last hint of warmth in his eyes vanished completely.
He stared at Ye Wan, his voice cold: "Miss Ye, I saved you once, out of respect for Old Master. But since you are so ungrateful, don't blame me for being ruthless."
He paused, then said word by word: "If you want me to intervene again, you must kneel and beg me!"
Ye Wan's face flushed to a pork‑liver hue upon hearing it; she had been coddled as a heavenly darling all her life, never having endured such humiliation.
She shrieked, "Dream on! Kneel before you? Who do you think you are! I tell you, even if I die of pain, I will never beg you, you broom star!"
Ye Wan's scream echoed through the banquet hall, shrill and unpleasant, drawing the eyes of the surrounding guests.
Ye Zhentian stood aside, sighing helplessly as he looked at his spoiled granddaughter, his heart a mix of emotions. He knew Jiangnan's abilities and Ye Wan's temperament, but he hadn't expected her to be so excessive.
Perhaps he had truly pampered her too much.
Ye Zhentian opened his mouth to say something, but in the end said nothing. He knew it was too late to speak now.
Ye Wan continued to berate Jiangnan incessantly, while Jiangnan merely stared at her coldly, his gaze full of contempt and disgust.
At that moment, Wei Tianhai approached. He looked at Ye Wan, a flash of greed in his eyes.
"Miss Ye, are you alright?" Wei Tianhai asked concernedly, while also giving Jiangnan a hard glare.
Ye Wan's fierce expression softened instantly upon seeing Wei Tianhai. She whispered, "Young Master Wei, I'm fine; it's just that broom star made me angry."
Wei Tianhai, hearing this, sprang up, pointing at Jiangnan angrily: "You Jiang, you'd better stop causing trouble! I tell you, this is the Ye family's territory; you have no right to run amok here!"
Jiangnan gave him a cold glance, saying nothing. He was too lazy to argue with such a person.
Ye Wan, seeing Wei Tianhai stand up for her, felt even more smug. Her favor toward Wei Tianhai rose sharply.
Thus, Ye Wan and Wei Tianhai gathered together to chat about everything—from poetry and songs to life ideals, enjoying a pleasant conversation.
The two laughed and walked forward, preparing to leave the banquet hall. But at that moment, Ye Wan suddenly felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, as if a knife were stirring inside.
"Sss—so painful!"
Ye Wan let out a wail, her face turning death‑white, beads of sweat the size of beans rolling off her forehead. She clutched her belly, squatting on the ground, body curled into a ball, trembling incessantly.
"Miss Ye, what's wrong?" Wei Tianhai was startled by Ye Wan's scream, hurriedly crouched, and asked concernedly.
"I... my stomach hurts so much..." Ye Wan's voice trembled, barely audible.
Wei Tianhai was a bit flustered; he reached out to help Ye Wan up. But just as his hand extended, his foot slipped suddenly, as if he stepped on something greasy.
He lost his balance in an instant, crashing heavily onto the stairs. By chance, his head struck the hard railing, producing a muffled "bang."
Fresh blood instantly streamed from Wei Tianhai's forehead, staining his cheek and the carpet below.
The sudden incident instantly quieted the entire banquet hall. Everyone was startled by the abrupt turn of events.
No one could have imagined that the two who were just laughing would now suffer such an accident.
The first to recover his senses was the doting grandfather, Ye Zhentian. Seeing his granddaughter's agony, he felt a piercing pain in his heart.
"Where are they? Where have they all gone!?"
The hotel staff, hearing Ye Zhentian's roar, immediately rushed to help; some called an ambulance, others kept order.
The banquet descended into chaos, guests panicked and chattered.
Beside them, Madam Chu frowned, silently turning her gaze toward Jiangnan standing in the corner.
In her heart she recalled Jiangnan's words, wondering if he truly had ability. She had missed him before. Or perhaps Old Master was not deceived, while she and her people were blinded, unable to see Mount Tai.
With that thought, she couldn't help but look at Jiangnan, the corner of her mouth lifting into a faint, charming smile.
Meanwhile, the hotel displayed great efficiency. The Ye family's private doctor arrived on the scene within three minutes.
Wei Tianhai's injury was external; though frightening to look at, it was only a superficial wound, and after simple bandaging he would be fine.
But Ye Wan's condition was far from optimistic; she clenched her teeth in pain, her face as pale as paper, her whole body drenched in cold sweat.
The private doctor immediately examined Ye Wan, but the results shocked him.
"Miss Ye, this is dysmenorrhea, and it's extremely severe," the private doctor said, wiping sweat from his forehead, his voice trembling.
Dysmenorrhea?
Ye Zhentian heard this, his brows knit. He knew Ye Wan suffered from dysmenorrhea, but never this severe.
"Fine, administer medicine quickly; don't let my precious granddaughter suffer any more!"
The private doctor, hearing this, immediately gave Ye Wan painkillers, but after five whole minutes there was no effect. Ye Wan still writhed in excruciating pain, rolling on the ground.
The private doctor panicked; he had never seen dysmenorrhea so severe. For a moment he was at a loss.
Ye Zhentian looked at his granddaughter with aching sympathy, his heart burning with anger. He pointed at the private doctor and shouted, "Useless! You useless thing! You can't even cure dysmenorrhea; what good are you!"
After the outburst, Ye Zhentian seemed to recall something; he abruptly turned his head toward Jiangnan standing not far away.
"Mr. Jiang, please, save Wan!" Ye Zhentian rushed to Jiangnan's side, his tone extremely urgent.
He could think of nothing else now, only wanting to lessen his granddaughter's suffering. In this situation, only Jiangnan could save her.
Jiangnan looked at Ye Zhentian, a hint of indifference flashing in his eyes.
He said calmly, "Old Master Ye, I already said that if you want me to act, Miss Ye must kneel and beg me."
"But..."
Ye Zhentian opened his mouth to say something, but it got stuck in his throat.
He knew that begging Jiangnan now was useless.
Jiangnan has always been unwavering, even when facing truly great figures. Though he may seem to have some status, Jiangnan never regards him.
Thus, the only plan now is to have his granddaughter kneel before Jiangnan.
Only... he knows his own Wan's temperament better than anyone.
This girl is as stubborn as a mule; making her kneel won't be that easy.
While Ye Zhentian hesitated, Ye Wan suddenly forced herself to speak.
"Jiang, Jiangnan, you're dreaming!"
